Hey there Jones, I don't usually watch COJ so forgive me if this is treading on old ground, but over the last few months I have been frustrated with the stream notifications for Twitch. I almost never get the notification when you actually go live, it's usually at least a minute or so after. This used to be less of an issue because you guys used to go live a few minutes at least before the stream started, especially for the group streams. But it seems like you have stopped doing that because usually by the time I get the notification y'all are in full swing with the stream already. I don't mean to nitpick but is there a reason that you haven't been going live early with the splash screen recently? Thanks for all you do, Love & Respect!

Hello Brandon. Looks like, you forgot to update your guest for June’s community showcase on easyallies.com (it’s marked as “Ian and Brandon”). And since many others shared their opinion here about guests and staff expansion, I want to add mine. I need to follow a group of industry professionals for a very long time to learn how their opinions correlate with my own impressions. I had one such group for movies, but then they were replaced with new staff, and I lost my compass for the cinema industry. Without knowing which movies I might enjoy I began to watch a lot of mediocre stuff which quickly led to almost losing interest in this form of art. I like games and I want to keep liking them. And since you are gaming industry professionals I’m following for a decade, I don’t particularly like the idea of bringing a lot of guests and new members. I don’t mind a completely new show with new people if it doesn’t come at expense of your current production. But if such show require cancellation of one of your current projects, if hiring new people means that you will not have enough financial resources to do what you are currently doing, then I’m against new faces for Easy Allies.

Seeing how many people like your post, I would like to gently and respectfully push back against some of the misinformation or mischaracterization being spread. The topic of diversity is not a sweeping call for token hires, underqualified hires, quotas, affirmative action, etc. The hypothetical scenario you have painted is, frankly, a strawman. Speaking only for myself, I'm not advocating for EZA to make a diversity hire; that somewhat goes against the goal. What I'm advocating for are small structural changes that enable or facilitate the natural growth of EZA to be more diverse. Being diverse isn't an impediment to making money. Being diverse opens possibilities for making more money. Being financially stable is a prerequisite to enacting structural changes such as diversity initiatives.

One way to look at the "Guest" question (to have or not to have) from a business perspective is: How much will that person's audience be willing to watch them in an EZA video and then be interested enough in EZA after the fact to watch more EZA content and THEN become a Patron or subscriber? I think until you've been a team long enough to build you reputations to be "on-par" with the people you invite you won't be seen by their communities as "worth their time". EZA is still growing (although not so much this past year) and the strengths you've shown by adapting demonstrate that whatever happens, you INTEND to be here for the "long run". I believe down the road a few years after everything settles down and you've restabilized you WILL have a guest-only show (if you still want one by then) and will be able to bring in more talent in the form of editors and marketing/business assistance behind the cameras so your personalities can really shine ON camera. Right now if it seems like you're "coasting" you kind of are, but there's no shame in that. We are all just trying to get through this next year at or ahead of where we were a year ago before all this craziness happened. Keep making the Podcast your own. Good morning Jones, I just want to say how much I have enjoyed the content from the unlocked EZX incentives. Seeing Don on the Mortal Kombat movie Spoiler-mode (not one of the incentives, just fun to do I guess), in the Pet Update video and on this week's Achieve it Yourself made me realize how much we all love Don and would like to see him in more stuff. It also got me thinking about Spoiler-modes and how cool it would be once a few Allies are done with the game, to see a New Pokemon Snap Spoiler-mode with Ian and Don and Bloodworth or Damiani and maybe a guest to talk about secrets of how to get the various photos and techniques without "ruining" it for people who might not want to watch a gameplay video or stream until after they play the game. Question: Would you propose to the team to do a Spoiler-mode on New Pokemon Snap? You do these on so many different types of games and movies about games I thought this one is out of the ordinary of what you normally do and would have the potential of different Allies being able to contribute. Thank you for taking my question. Edit: Lol! I just finished listening to the last half hour of the MK Spoiler-mode and they actually joke about having a New Pokemon Snap spoiler mode. Please propose it at your next meeting thankyou! =)

Jones, I love ya. You seem like a really decent guy. I can totally understand how you might feel like you are giving your all and it's not being appreciated. This has been a long year, and we all deserve a pat on the back for fighting through it. You ARE doing a great job. Keep up the great work. Alright, on to the meat. I feel like scrolling through the other comments here there has been a bit of name calling. I'm going to try to avoid that. I believe the vast majority of people in this community are good at heart, but I want to address something of a systematic issue. I want to suggest a radical idea. Maybe it's time to change the format of Cup of Jones. Because this show is structured where the only questions someone can ask are business related, you are incentivizing people to write comments and critiques about your company if they want to engage with the show. And, "you guys are great, no complaints!" isn't exactly going to strike up a conversation. So, say I love everything EZA, and want to engage with it at every level possible, the only way I could engage with this show is to criticize your company or ask questions about future plans. And if I wanted to engage with this show every week, I have to think of problems with your company every week. Feedback is definitely important, but I think you end up getting a lot of noise on this show because of it. I also think there are lots of ways to address this. You definitely don't have to use any of them, it's your show. And these are just a couple of ideas. A) Make it a monthly show. Make people boil down their 4 questions into the one they most want answered. Keep getting feedback, but let the cream rise to the top. B) Bring back personal questions, and alternate between them weekly. You could rename it to something cheeky like "Business Jones" and "Casual Jones." It gives people a way to engage in a more friendly manner without going back to the 3 hour shows. C) Scrap the original idea all together and make this a show about dinosaurs. Everyone loves dinosaurs! Again, I want to make it clear I am not trying to call anyone out here because all I see is an engaged community, and that's a great thing. I think implementing any of these would probably make the show tighter, and the conversations better. And again, you and everyone at EZA is doing a great job. Keep up the good work. The term 'patron' to me means someone who provides support/assistance/encouragement to another because one believes in that other person's talent/skill. It comes from the word patronus which means 'one who gives benefits to another'. It does NOT mean one gets to make demands in order to influence. My god some of the comments on this last Cup Of Jones were just so entitled it made me mad enough to comment. If I apply for a job, I want that job because the people who are hiring me acknowledge my level of education or skill and can see that benefits that I can bring to the table in order to make the business grow. I do NOT want to be hired because I am Asian, to meet a quota, for social media re-presentation (Hey guys look!, we have an asian on board! We can get an Asian's insight on what games are like for them! #diverse!!!~). I do NOT want to be the token. Besides isn't EZA about games? and talking about games? Who cares who talks about them as long as they are passionate? Why should gender, skin colour even come up as long as they are honest and passionate about the subject? When I want to know what the next Resident Evil game is going to be like, I ask myself 'what do this bunch of industry veterans think about this game?"; not "I wish there were less white guys in this group so I can get a nuanced take on Resident Evil". Like WTF Patrons. Jones, dude I felt your anxiety shoot through the roof this week and I felt for you. Your podcast is fine. Your group direction is fine. Are there things that can be improved? There ALWAYS is, in any business, any partnership. Do I have faith that you will address those concerns? Yes I do. Do I feel you guys are coasting now that you have a studio? No. You guys raised $25k for the George Floyd foundation for ffs! In the middle of a pandemic! You raised $ for my home country when we were ravaged by bushfires! I was there watching live for both those events! That stuff brought tears to my eyes. I don't give a crap if you are a bunch of white guys in LA. Like why even apologise for that? You guys are passionate, creative and genuine. End of. Just be yourselves. And also to the rest of the patrons, Kyle is not in EZA anymore. Seriously, get over it and move on.

It seems that every time I listen to Cup there is some comment talking about EZA’s lack of diversity. This gets me frustrated, particularly because 1) it’s pointless if you have no means to hire anyone and 2) you seem to own it and take it as a personal failing that you’re not addressing. Allow me to make a controversial opinion: You have nothing to apologize or feel shame for. The great (and sometimes terrible) thing about the age of social media is that everyone can have a platform. If I want to hear from the perspective on a game or the industry from a woman or a POC I can seek that out and find it. I would hope that you and EZA would not fall into the trap of forcing a hire or a relationship with a guest largely based on their gender or race. How offensive and demeaning it would be to adopt a partnership with someone based on those qualifications. In short, don’t stress about it. Be yourselves with your diversity of thoughts, interests, and opinions.

I have been a patron for a long time but haven’t really commented on much of anything before, certainly not CoJ I don’t think. That said this is the first time I ha e really felt compelled to make a comment. I am surprised and disappointed by how strongly people don’t want guests in shows. Easy Allies is a set group of people, and frankly sometimes the discussion gets pretty circular. I mean if anyone who has followed/supported EZA for a significant length of time doesn’t know what Huber’s take is on a subject before he says it, well, I don’t believe you. Thats not a shot at Huber, he is himself and that is great but different thoughts and unexpected takes are important. I still remember the Frame Trap with Maximilian dood, and it is to date one of the best pieces of EZA content I’ve heard. I say this as someone who doesn’t play fighting games at all and had never heard of him before. I still don’t play fighting games but I sure as hell follow Max now, because his content is good and his takes are interesting. I have honestly felt for some time now that the EZA community is a little insular and too difficult for new people to get into, and I feel that this “no guests” push, especially for the podcast and Frame Trap, is another example of that. These are the two shows best suited, and with the best hosts/moderators for guests. Obviously, this is a decision the 8 guys have to make for themselves but I have to put my hat into the ring and say I think no guests is a bad idea.

Hey, don't wanna speak for others but I got the impression that people are all for guests just not in every show. Like you mentioned - Fast and Loose, occasional Easy Update episode, Friend Code..., these are all cool, but it's nice to have EZA only content like Podcast, Frame Trap or Hall of Greats. People are just voicing their opinions in reaction to a comment from this episode. Maybe listen to the episode first if you haven't already, because you're making it sound like one person said no guests ever just out of nowhere and that's simply not true.

Haven't checked in on CoJ for a long time and just got word that here are many comments AGAINST guests in EZA content. And I love guests, I want guests, I enjoy guests. They can shake up the discussion, have different opinions and generally make things more interesting. That doesn't mean every show has to have guests but to exclude guests from every EZA content is nuts. Why? Makes no sense. Please note that not everyone who enjoys the EZA content and guests, constantly voices their opinion here or anywhere else all the time. I love guests, I want guests. Just as much as there were guests in the past: Fast & Loose, some EZ Updates, sprinkled in here and there. It is really alarming that if you don't comment here, the perception is "we" don't want guests. It's not that simple. I just don't comment all the time or hear every CoJ etc. Best regards Sebastian

Everytime a live event is happening, I tune into EZA on Twitch for your reactions. When a new game review embargo lifts, I check your channel first. I await the new podcast every Friday. I think when you’re hosting a show like this, it can seem like no one is happy, or that you can’t do anything right, but I love all the content, I’m having a blast supporting the allies. Thanks for all that you do, Jones! You are getting conflicting reports about wanting guests and that must be driving you wild. I feel the problem is there is no dedicated guest show, and I will pour one out for you since I know that is your future dream. I am rooting for you! NOW THEN. In my community showcase post, I recommended a game called Rakugaki Showtime(ラクガキショータイム) for group stream. Just wanted to give you a little info about it. It is a kind of arena fighting dogeball game. It has a very cool art style. It can be found in the playstation classics section of the Japanese PS3 store. Since the lisitng is in Japanese, the best way to find it is by looking up the cover art online, and matching it to the one in the store listing. Thanks for your time!

Hey Jones, Your recent brew got me fired up (bad Cup of Jones joke, I know. Never said I was funny). Here's the deal for me - I don't go to McDonald's to order a whopper, I don't go to chick-fil-a to order a steak, and I don't listen to the eza podcast because I want to hear non-allies. For me, the whole appeal to eza and why it's my favorite podcast is because you have 8 (formerly 9) members. And you're all distinct enough in your likes that none of you sound too same-y to me. Each week, it's a different lineup with different opinions and it's never the same week to week. That's one reason why I love it. If I'm not mistaken, reaction shots, friend code, fast and loose, and fiasconauts all regularly have guests. You have shows that feature other voices. Your main show can just be the allies. It's not the easy allies and friends podcast. It's okay to have at least one show that's just you guys and is exactly what you want it to be. Call me crazy, but I'm sure that was a goal when you all set out to form the company - to have a show that was your own. I commend other shows for having guests on but the ones I listen to that have guests don't have 4 people on their panel. And shows like kinda funny games daily have lost appeal to me because the lineup for that show changes too much. I never feel like I can ever get in a groove with that show. Plus, there's one host I don't like and I skip all their shows. That could happen to your show if you introduce guests. Plus, with guests, i can see it causing allies to be pushed off the podcast for longer which is the opposite of what I'd like. Anyway, I'll stop. Thanks for taking my rant. Love and respect, ~Matt

Loads of people have said this already, but want to say it too. Please no guests on the Podcast or Frame Trap if possible. I listen to the podcasts to get your guys’ opinions. Sometimes a guest can ruin the flow of it (as it can feel like they’re [understandably] advertising their own brand) and it just means I’m skipping the show for that week. Hi Jones, I came here to do a positivity post, but turns out a lot of people had the same idea. I run a channel with less than half the amount of subscribers, but I couldn't imagine getting up on Mondays every week to be barraged with unending comments about what people think you're doing wrong. When I first became a Patron, I was kind of incredulous. I started watching Cup of Jones purely as a "There's no way he really does this every week, wouldn't that drive you mad?" I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemies. This isn't a question, so you don't need to worry about responding or anything, but I massively appreciate how much work all your roles at EZA take. Especially since so much of it involves switching hats, rather than doing just one thing. I know you feel you came too harsh in your responses this week, but honestly, no problem at all.

Yo Jones! Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate what you and the whole team have been able to do over the past year+. It's obviously not going to be exactly the same as life in the studio, but I still feel that my monthly pledge is well-spent. You guys actually produce more content than I can consume on a regular basis, so my Watch Later playlist is growing each week. I don't see anyone else I follow doing a show like Cup of Jones. Some creators actively avoid reading the comments section, let alone reading and responding to them each week on camera. It's super interesting to hear about what goes into this type of work, but some weeks feel pretty brutal when the questions all seem to hit on the same themes. Regardless, just wanted to say "thanks for all the hard work" from the lurkers out here who don't comment very often.

I watch EZA for the eight allies and their unique perspectives and personalities. I wanted to say that Mindful Games was really fun, i even wanted to make a parody of it in Dragons Dogma for the community showcase, that game is relaxing to me but only cause I specifically am looking for it, so I think it would be a terrible candidate for a actual mindful game since I have to go way off the beaten path to find relaxation. Anyways i don't really have a question, thank you for your hard work!

Thanks for discussing my question about partnership diversity. Definitely did not mean to trigger you! Seemed like an unfortunate timing coincidence with similar questions piling on. And of course everyone who writes into Cup of Jones acknowledges, explicitly or not, the hard work you've put in and the unique challenges you've faced this past year. Cup of Jones is a weekly invitation for Jones to get publicly *CALLED OUT*. No patron's gonna hold a grudge about that. I should have been clearer that partnership means ownership, control, and decision-making; a partner has equity but need not be paid a salary. Someone could join a partnership in order to have a vote in the direction of the company. That's worth something more than money. You mentioned Ripley's new members "paying their dues." That's also what a new partner does! They have to bring something to the table (their skills, their clients/audience, etc.) and buy into the partnership (buy a share). You would be diluting your share, but hopefully you see value in the skills, the audience, and the unique decision-making perspective or viewpoint that the new partner brings. It's not just tokenism. I only asked if EZA has a plan. It's ok if you don't yet have one. But don't feel that you need to instantly come up with the best plan ever. There are many ways to get to the end goal of a diverse and representative partnership. No one expects the work to be easy or for it to be done tomorrow.

Hey Jones, I am currently watching Cup of Jones and I just wanted to say that I feel you man. It takes a ton of moxy to take every comment from the community every week and be transparent about what the company is doing when you are only a part and not the boss. I'm a minister, every person in my faith community gets a say in what we do and in our direction, it makes things difficult but more fulfilling. I feel like I've been in the place you seemed to be today during Cup of Jones. Those questions were worthy of discussion, there was nothing wrong with asking about guests and different forms of representation and they brought up good points. You kept your composure and was very kind, you laid out all the work you've been doing highlighting where your priorities are and acknowledging how difficult the Covid-19 pandemic has been to navigate. Ministry has been similar feedback loop, and often I hear from folks who haven't really considered the work that goes into what is happening and only focusing on critique or additions that may not be in the plan. Hi Jones! I dropped off of being a patron of EZA some time last year and just recently came back due to the fantastic showing at EZX. My question is if you plan on continuing EZX as a digital event after the pandemic? Personally I much prefer the digital event in contrast to the concerts you guys had in the past. Not only do I feel that the amount of cost and planning could be better spent throughout the year to help better your shows in general, but I also find the creativeness and show ideas more interesting and entertaining during the digital events. Hi Jones, I am about to suggest yet a podcast change/idea, so bear with me. Do you think a mid podcast panel change could help in tackling some of the stories with more enthusiasm? For example, tagging in Huber for a resident evil section in the first half and maybe brining in Ben for a story related to fighting games in the second. I know it sounds elaborate, but other podcasts I listen to tend to swap in guests for sections and it's usually pretty smooth as a listener. I've been a patron since day 1 and have never left a comment. I just want to say that I pay you guys money each month to make the content that you want to make and I trust in your decisions. Adopting community suggestions is welcomed by many but given you've got a lot of people signed up; you'll never please everyone. The comments each week likely represent a fraction of your patrons, so beyond checking view metrics it must be tough to know what to take on board. Everyone has their own agenda. Hey Mr. Jones! This is a massive intro for a short question, so apologies for how long this is. On a recent Cup while answering another Patron’s question regarding providing timely L&R submissions (HappyGaming I THINK, apologies to the asker if you’re reading this if I’ve misattributed you), you made a vague mention of a response you gave to a game submitted a while back for the L&R segment. Well, I submitted that game. To catch you up, I submitted a game about GameTrailers still having a page on OpenCritic and my game was about taking the first page of reviews (which there are 19 pages, so this page had just 10) and have the panel guess what the last games were AND who reviewed them, based on the blurb and score, and as a happy accident, there are only four reviewers on that page: Misters Moore, Huber, Bloodworth, and yourself. I submitted the game with three of the four Allies because since yourself and Mister Bloodworth are always on the podcast, I waited until the first podcast with either Misters Moore or Huber. In your very kind reply to me, you preemptively let me know you were not going to take it because the game would be best served with all four Allies present (Though I appreciate you opened the comment with, “This game rules.” Thanks for that!). Well, I’ve paid attention to the pairings since then and discovered Misters Moore and Huber are NOT in the rotation together, so they’ll never be paired unless either you intentionally decided to go out of your way to pair them OR if an Ally originally scheduled has to miss the recording and one or the other is willing to fill in.
