Standard is definitely too easy and Hardcore is mostly fair but has some rough difficulty spikes if it's your first playthrough. On NG+ Hardcore is crazy easy. I'm going into NG++ on Village of Shadows difficulty with Infinite S.T.A.K.E Magnum ammo. I expect little-to-no trouble. DEFINITELY suggest Hardcore for first playthrough.

2021-05-10 18:57:20 +0000 UTCI restarted my play through 30 minutes in to change the difficulty to hardcore after Huber suggested it. Died like 8 times in a row during the Village ambush in the beginning and that sucked all the fun out of it for me. Went back to my standard difficult save file and now I haven’t died once after 5 hours of playing and I have tons of ammo. So basically both difficulties are disappointing for different reasons. Still love the game overall though.

I prefer to play on hardcore because I’ve been hearing that standard is too easy, but if the whole game is gonna be like that one section I don’t think I’ll enjoy it. Was it just an insane difficulty spike? I finally got through it but wondering if I should turn back now.
