Cup of Jones - May 17, 2021

Some epic full playthroughs are taking place this week. One will end shortly. One will take a long, long, long time. Our streams are the highlight this week. I’m personally looking forward to teaming up in Hood: Outlaws & Legends tomorrow night. That game has been glaring at me on my PS5 for a while. And I have absolutely no idea what I’m getting myself into by starting the first Mass Effect with the intent to finish the trilogy. Solid show and stream suggestions in the feedback this week, thank you!

Heya Jones, Oh, well, I mean, yeah, okay. But when Easy Allies grows up, will you eat sweets every day, go to bed late every night, or watch cartoons until your eyes go square?

Hi Brandon, I'm just following up to my post from last week, no need to include this on Cup of Jones. Thank you for responding! Sorry that I misnamed the segment. My suggestions to switch up the "also this week" segment seemed to be interpreted as suggestions for the whole podcast. I just want to clarify that making a 5 headline limit, and bringing them up in order of least to most headline-worthy is only suggested for the "also this week" portion. It would be kind of a blend of bosman's "rank the significance" and "should we move on" structure. I agree with you that the biggest headlines should absolutely stay at the front of the podcast. Love and respect, Matt

Hello Brandon! Are Easy Allies going to live react to the Dragon Quest 35th anniversary stream? L&R

Have you cross-checked this with the amount of game releases between years? Just curious, as my first thought went to all the game delays that have happened during the pandemic.

Josh Read

Love this. Also still want them to make a Bloodworth-centered show called "Blood Pressure."

HI Brandon, Was going to send this as a private message (I have done so in the past, but am never sure if you receive them), but then thought that this would be good info for all allies to know! Not really a business question, but you were all talking about the Strong Museum (and the hall of fame) in the podcast a week or 2 back. While I have not been there myself - my wife and kids took a day trip from Toronto there a couple of years ago in the before times. They brought me back a souvenir I thought you and the others may find fascinating. It's the quintessential coffee table book for us gamers. It's called 'A History of Video Games in 64 Objects'. You can find this on amazon or by ordering directly from the museum. (I'd put the link here but worried about getting flagged!). Each 'object' is only 1-2 quick pages worth with a picture reference. Gives great insight on pioneer video gaming as well - all the more to increase our knowledge! Anyway, just thought I'd pass that along - its a great read for all of us to enjoy! Canadian Cheers!

Hey Jones, I just wanted to give some feedback on your Mass Effect stream this week. I love the effort you put into producing these full playthrough streams. Seeing that 1.01 in the top, as well as the really nicely put together stream frame was slick. I also really enjoyed your approach to streaming the game in general. It felt very cozy and intimate, but most importantly, it made it feel like an event worth paying attention to. Obviously I was going to watch you play through some of my favourite games of all time regardless, but the production value on the stream is extremely appreciated. I had to watch the VoD this week but really looking forward to joining you live going forward. All the best, Harrison

Heads up, I make light of this on the F&L episode itself, but I do think it's a fair criticism and I'm passing it on. -Bloodworth

Hello Brandon. I have a problem with submission process for various podcasts. This month and last month submission post for Fast & Loose went up minutes before the deadline, which basically meant that only patrons who happen to be awake and online at that very moment were able participate. However, this happens not just with Ian’s show: submission post for this week’s Friend Code went up on Monday, which I believe is the day of recording. And quite often submission post for Easy Allies Podcast goes up on Thursday, sometimes late on Thursday. I’m not happy that while formally all patrons at $5 and up tier can submit their questions to all podcasts, in practice only those who live in “good” time zones can get what they are paying for. I think that submission posts for all podcasts should go up at least 24 hours before the deadline to give everyone an equal chance to participate.

Hi Brandon, I have fun keeping a rather detailed list of all the games EZA has reviewed, the scores, etc. etc. Anyway, I noticed that you guys have not nearly reviewed as many games this year as you have in years past. Is there a specific reason for this? In particular, Bloodworth & Damiani have really slowed in their reviews in the last 14 months while Ben, Brad, & Huber have remained consistent. Is there anything you can speak to about this? For reference here are some totals for years past versus this year so far: 2017 - 64 reviews 2018 - 62 reviews 2019 - 67 reviews 2020 - 59 reviews 2021 - 15 reviews thus far (about 40% through the year)

Hey, Jones A quick suggestion in long essay form, please ignore if you've seen this idea a million times before! You've talked in the past about how reviewing a game can feel like being in a bubble, where you can't anticipate what other people's concerns and opinions will be. For example, with Spider-Man PS4, you regretted not talking more about the combat, which is something you only realized in hindsight when reading the comments. Have you thought about doing a companion Q&A stream to Easy Allies reviews? Something like what you did with Mindful Games, where within the hour of publishing a review you do a short live session, answering pressing questions that people might have and that you may have not addressed. It could also be a way to further capitalize on the hype and interest surrounding big releases, especially around the time embargo lifts when everyone is so curious. I imagine there could be logistic issues and the idea may be a bit redundant when you already have impressions, streams and frame trap. But I thought I'd throw it out there!

Hey Jones Lots of L&R I recently had an idea for a name for a show or stream, "Duel at Don" like "Duel at Dawn". I know Don loves Mortal Kombat so is there something there? I don't know just thought I would share my stupid pun. Keep doing what u do

Hi Jones, I recently heard the comment made about the bet Huber still owes involving you naming his ACNH island. It made me realize that you don't actually name the island until after playing a few initial cut-scenes and completing some tasks.... enough that Huber (with his penchant for FINISHING games) will not be able to ignore it. The game will whisper at him late at night "Huber, I'm still unfinished..." I would absolutely love it if you took this into consideration when coming up with a name for the island. Would you consider taking suggestions? Such as "Incomplete" or "ImUnfinished" or "Notaplatinum" ...(i thought this would be humorous, you don't have to read aloud.) L&R

Do you play the Quincy Jones music game but with Brandon instead of Quincy? The game is, you take songs that prominently feature the lyric, “Mister Jones” and replace them with “Quincy Jones,” but now change it to “Brandon Jones.” Like Ballad of a Thin Man by Bob Dylan: “You know something is happening, but you don’t know what it is, do you, Brandon Jones?” There’s a whole bunch of “Mister Jones” songs out there, so this should provide hours of fun for the Allies.

Hi Brandon, Did you check more recently? Someone brought this to my attention last week and I was able to remove the claimed content and restore both that video and the Ubisoft reactions from September. -Bloodworth

Easy Allies

EDIT: Mr. Bloodworth was able to respond to my question and as such, please skip this week's post Mr. Jones. I don't want to double post as I don't feel it's right, or do any further edits to this one (for fear of Patreon; you know how it is.) I'll be back again next week (shocking, I know) to ask a new question. Have a great day! Hey Mr. Jones! While searching through some of the reactions on the YouTube playlist to ask you a different question (which I’m putting off until next week for the following reason), I noticed the June Playstation stream where Sony revealed Spider-man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Demon’s Souls, and the PS5 itself (and other stuff too) as a whole was no longer available. Was it taken down due to copyright claim? I know Mr. Bloodworth from time to time will put out a tweet when he encounters such problems, so was this reaction stream one of the casualties? And are there any other videos you’re aware of that are no longer viewable because of these (or other) issues? Thanks again for reading and have a wonderful day! Cheers! QUESTION: While looking for a reaction on the YouTube playlist, I noticed the Playstation stream reactions from this past June is no longer there. Was it taken down due to copyright claim? And are there any other videos you’re aware of that are no longer viewable because of these (or other) issues?
