Ask Isla Anything.

Ask me anything and I'll answer it, I will also say who asked me unless you put up front not to.

Hope you're doing well!! I'm very excited to finally share this with all of you, and I'm looking forward to answering your questions and helping anyone out there who might need it!

So as someone who is currently identifying as non-binary, but it's pretty sure they're a transwoman; What pushed you to start transitioning after holding on for as long as you said you did?

Hi Isla. I thought you mentioned before that you had a girlfriend, and I was curious if she already knew about the transition you were undergoing or planning to undergo. Also, assuming you were always attracted to women, what helped you to realize that you were in fact lesbian? Apologies if my questions are too intrusive. You are still my favorite member of EZA and I'm genuinely interested in hearing more of your thoughts and feelings. Thanks!!!!

miggity

Someone might've asked this already but it's the only question I have. Will we get an ezaIsla emote soon? <3 L&R

Ninja_Kitty_Meow

Since my other question was already answered by you showing the F on your license...... Have you encountered the dreaded beast known as "The Cravings" yet?

R.F. Switch

Hi Isla! Congratulations and I am so happy for you. You mentioned hormone therapy was more like getting off testosterone and less about getting on estrogen. Could you explain this more? What do you notice most and is there something that surprised you that's not often discussed? Has it affected your taste in music & art at all?

JHK

I'm a bit late to the party and have no question. Just wanted to say that I'm very happy for you, Isla. Big fan of yours, stay awesome and Love & Respect!

Cottelito

I hope that I don't sound offensive, I am not really in the LGBT culture so unfortunately I am pretty ignorant when it comes to transitioning. I know I don't know you personally but your the first person in my life who has transitioned. In the past you seem to not get offended easily so hopefully I can ask some probably ignorant questions without getting into too much trouble. I want to start by saying I am fully supportive of you as Isla but it's a weird feeling because I almost feel like I am saying goodbye to who you used to be. I am sure that other than your gender your personality will be the same, just right now while I am getting used to you as Isla it seems almost different. Almost like seeing a different person with the same personality. During your transition process was there ever a point where you felt like you had to say goodbye to your old self? Do you feel like you are the same person just in the correct body now? In case someone in my life does transition is this something too personal to ask? Sorry that you are the first transgender person I can express these feeling with. Either way good job on finding out who you are and being comfortable in your skin. Wish you lots of support as you head back into the outside world. L&R. (Okay after rereading this a few times before posting I thought of one more thing to ask that again hopefully isn't offensive. When you transitioned did it ever feel like you were in a character creator from a video game? Getting to choose your name, and your hair style, maybe even putting stats in different things. Gosh such a dumb question but thought it might be fun to ask.)

Hey Isla! So proud of you to get to this point where you feel comfortable enough to speak your truth and be your true self with the world! Truly inspiring! My question is: How did you land on the name "Isla"? Is this a name you've always thought of when you were a child? Is it a name that was in a cool video game/movie that you resonated with? Or is it something else? (If it's super personal and you don't feel the need to explain: no worries. Completely understand.) L&R ❤️

Andrew Left

Congratulations you beautiful bitch you! My only question is how and when did you know? I have a bunch people in my life coming out and they all have very similar stories how the knew and if you care to share, I just wanted to listen your story. L&R

It makes me so happy to see you as yourself Isla, and I can tell you’re just…happier now! Your coming out video radiated with energy that had me smiling the entire time 😁 HAPPY PRIDE!!!

Hi Isla, First, congratulations! When The Missing was released a few years ago, you mentioned how you were deeply impacted by it's story and how it handled trans identity. Can you expand on your feelings of the story and narrative, and why you found it so effective? L&R Alen

Love you Isla! You are also looking great. On many more Easy Updates and Reaction Shots to come. Please explore films of Xavier Dolan if you can <3

While I think "guys" can be gender-neutral, and I use that term as well, context is important. "The guys at Easy Allies" doesn't sound gender-neutral to me, whereas "hey guys" or "you guys have a good one" does.

Josh Read

If you would like further context to this question: I feel I'm in a rather privileged position to know at least a dozen friends who have transitioned in the past decade, and most of my gaming time is spent with a group that's very nearly 50% openly transgender people these days. It's exceptionally normal to me to see people make these changes to their life. It really just bounces off me, talking about the positives, the negatives, the challenges, the opportunities, the highs and lows is is as normal as chatting about the weather, or what dinner was really. It is different for me to see a year's worth of progress all at once Isla, though.....like others, I kind of already got the vibe? But like, you're people, and like all the other allies people, you have a right to privacy so 100% get it.

Kiraz

Sorry, no questions, just some congratulations, Isla! Cool to hear that your experience has been a positive one! L&R

Pleasure to meet you Isla! I mean this with all respect. Did you find that your tastes in music, movies, games, etc. change after you started treatment? L&R

Tyler Travis

Hi Have you planned for who'll be on the next Mysterious Monsters? Any major changes coming to the show? Really excited for this show to come back, what's the scoop? Thanks for all you do!

robert7lee

You don't need to understand the logic behind how people feel. You can't ask people to logically explain why they have a favourite ice-cream flavour, and you can't ask people to logically explain why they feel they are who they are. You can be curious, but nobody owes you an explanation. The onus is on you to accept and respect the people around you, in this as much as any other facet of life. I don't want to speak for anyone in writing this comment, so apologies if I should have stayed quiet. This is just how I personally feel when people ask to be "sold" on other peoples' identities or personal choices that don't harm others.

Tuna Bay

Hi Isla!! Sending all of the L&R! By the way your hair (as always) and makeup looked so nice in you video! X

Congratulations Isla. Huge amounts of L&R from the UK. I have some quick questions, apologies if they've already been asked or answered. Firstly, how do you feel about terms like "dude" and "guys". I personally use them as gender-neutral terms but understand that historically they've been used to refer to men. As an example would you okay with "the guys at Easy Allies"? As for my other question. We all know the video game industry as a whole can keep a secret as well as a sieve holds water. That being said, who in the community (outside of EZA) did you trust with the knowledge of your transition before you went public? And did you share the name Isla with any of them before the Allies?

It would be one thing if you said you're homosexual. I would say yes, you're gay, you're attracted to other men, I get it, and I don't care. But to say you're a woman now, and ask us to refer to you as "she", is a really tough sell. You're asking us to pretend you're a woman (essentially asking us to play along in your fantasy world with you) when in fact, you are a biological male. To also say you're a "lesbian" is just the cherry on the clown sundae. Hopefully you'll respond in a logical, fact-based manner and not just automatically label my comment as "hate speech" simply because you don't agree with it.

aguynamedjosh

Hi, Isla. Was there any concern at all that this might negatively impact the patron count? Love and Respect.

Star Tsurugi

Isla, I'm so damn happy for you and proud of your courage. I just want you to know that I think you're awesome and I've been playing Disco Elysium lately due to you giving it such high praise in the past. Seriously, the dialog in that game is just poetry! Congrats again and all the best for the future.

Somestranger-_-

Hi Isla! No question, just want to say how happy I am for you!

Hello Isla, I have a history question if I may. If I’m not mistaken, the most recent Easy Update has the song titled “Inside the chrysalis”. And Easy Update #99 (Feb 11, 2018) featured short scene in which Sofia tells you that chrysalis was found, and you are excited by this news. Is there a connection here, or is this just a coincidence?

Alexander Zyryanov

I'm happy you're happy Isla! The only question I have is this: what can we do for you?

Congratulations, Isla! No questions. Just a maximum amount of love & respect.

dtenchi

No question, just hope you're doing well!

Hi Isla. Long time, first time and all that.. You don’t have to read this one out loud on the show, but you may if you feel like it. I had to watch the Coming Out Spectacular three times before it clicked. My general chest area, that’s where the feelings live, were screaming out so loudly, that the brain finally heard it. The deliberation from imprisonment, as I imagine this must be for you, is a feeling very familiar to me, though it may be in a completely different way. My mother and I have become estranged due to her recent development of mental health issues. It took me almost 2 years of therapy to come to this conclusion: It’s okay to be you. Changing the way you are for other people’s acceptance won’t make you happy. I was fighting an endless battle against ME that ended the day I finally allowed myself to be me. That’s where you hit me with the spectacular: you are finally you. SOOOOOOoooo proud of you, and I wish for you only happiness, joy, love, and respect. (The A in Farshid is pronounced like the A in the word “fathom”, you roll on the R, like dorrrritos and.. you know what.. just go for it haha)

No question. Just all of my Love, and all of my Respect. Congratulations you dear, brave, insane, fabulous, creative, woman!

Jonah Cowan

This is a strange one as I don’t know you. But I know you as an internet personality through many years. Been watching your content since GT. I guess my question is... is it wrong for me to sort of feel sad Ian is gone? Like I said this is a strange one as there are layers of obfuscation here. Either way, I’m happy you’re happy.

Nice to meet you Isla, What was it like shooting/posting your coming out video? A huge weight off your shoulders or a new source of trepidation? How early did the allies and others find out? What was that conversation like? So proud of you for being brave and announcing yourself so beautifully. I hope that anyone else in the community who are trying to discover themselves can look up to you. Love and Respect. Shan (pronounced Shawn)

Hello Isla! I didn't want to ask a question, but I wanted to share my gratitude for your bravery in embracing yourself to the world. Two years ago my best friend came out to me as a trans woman and since then I've been lucky enough to witness others around me that I care for fully realize who they are. From my best friend to my sister who also came out in the same year, I couldn't fully express my happiness that I feel when I see them grow and become the people they were meant to be. From the bottom of my heart thank you. With love and respect, Connor

Hi Isla! Congratulations!! I am so incredibly happy for you. Your coming out video was wonderful. I have a question for you that I hope I am able to articulate properly. I have 2 very young kids and I've been thinking a lot about how raise them so that they feel comfortable figuring out who they are, no matter who that person turns out to be. Give them the tools to come out to themselves if that makes sense. You mentioned that it took you a while to figure that out for yourself and I'm wondering if you have advice for parents who want to help their kids on that journey. Stuff that helped you or you would have wished for. All of the love and all of the respect!

Hellooooo! I don't want to claim I know much about transitioning, and what it entails, because I don't. HOWEVER, I do feel very curious about what it's like to choose your new name. Like all the process. Most of us don't chose our own names and never have to think twice about it. But choosing a new name and then identifying by it must be an interesting, and probably difficult, task! I know you didn't tell the allies because of HuberHype but did you tell someone before? Did you wait until you felt it was your name before telling anyone? Or is being called your new name part of adopting it? What does the old name represent? How do you feel about "Ian" (I'm only asking about the name itself for this one)? I do realize this could be a very sensitive question —or rather, questionS— so please forgive me if I asked something that is normally considered private. I just find choosing one's own name particularly fascinating. Lastly, congratulations! I wish you all the happiness in the world, Isla!!!!!!

Hi Isla, CONGRATULATIONS! I was wondering what made you decide to do voice lessons? Have you felt them to be helpful so far? Do you think your future songs on Easy Update will have a new vocal range because of the voice lessons, or will they be similar to your previous songs? I'm learning so much about LGBTQ+ topics lately, so I'm glad you are resource for the Easy Allies community. :) L&R A Niche Door from Canada

A Niche Door

Another not-a-question, just wanted to say I've admired you since stumbling on EZA years ago and I'm beyond thrilled for you now. (Also the bit about not telling the guys your name for fear Huber might accidentally use it in a fit of excitement is very adorable). Keep being awesome!

Jordan Pettigrew

No question, just wanted to share some love. Love and respect :)

Mr moo

Not a question: just here to send you positive vibes and say I'm so excited for you!!! I'm overall proud and so giddy that you can be a fuller, truer you and I'm stuck between happy crying and smiling uncontrollably for ya. And as someone also part of the LGBTQ community, I'm always happy to see people find themselves and be themselves fully. With all the love and respect! Cheers Isla ♡♡

Ania Juarez

I rarely ever comment, but just wanted to say that you're awesome, and I'm really happy for you. Also, Isla is such a beautiful name. The way you pronounce it sounds exactly like "Aila" in Finnish, which is also a girl's name. Much love and respect from Finland! <3

I'm also in the No Question gang ✌️🤓 you're awesome Isla and the good vibes are off the charts right now! Super happy for you!

Rayluaza

Hey Isla, I was wondering how you feel about older content that depicts you pre- transition, I have old fanart up and I still rewatch old Mandatory Update episodes but if that kinda thing is a sore spot I wanna support you however you see fit (i.e. taking down outdated fanart, not watching older vids etc.) Congrats, and Love and Respect always ❤️

Heya Isla, first of all congrats again! I could definetely see this coming :D my question on female hormone therapy for men: do you know if this can also be done to a certain degree without transitioning fully? I'm asking since I would call myself trans, feeling like a lesbian trapped in a man's body since I hit puberty (I'm 36). But: I'd be a tomboy and also am into tomboys when it comes to women. So I'd like to get rid off some male traits like lots of body hair, but without transitioning fully since I made peace with being a "guy", whatever that means. Of course one could never get around shaving body parts like legs, as most women do. But would estrogen for example mess with stuff in the male body that is needed for reproduction and the likes? I know you're not a doctor but I'm sure your knowledgeable on the subject. Thanks for your time 😁

Hi Isla, so I have never personally known a Trans-Person and consider that a big gap in my experience because it is certainly harder to relate and understand the trans-experience just through media etc. So while I have never met you personally, I have been following GT/EZA for well over a decade, so it does kind of feel like having a friend who is Trans, which I am very grateful for. So, if my question seems stupid or uninformed, I apologize, but here we go: How are we supposed to think of Ian and how do you think of him? Do you consider him a part of your identity? Or is it more somebody you played until you came out? And should we think of Ian as a person who existed but doesn't anymore? I remember that when Elliot Page came out, all his IMDB and Wikipedia Credits etc. were edited to reflect that, which confused me a bit, because to me he was always Ellen Page until the day he came out, so when I thought about, say, Juno, I would think of it as a movie starring an actor who was then known as Ellen Page. And while I fully respect a person's gender identity it kind of feels like I have to "retcon" their gender identity in my head. Because while Elliot probably knew for a long time that he wasn't Ellen Page, I didn't and up to the coming out everything related to him was saved as something related to Ellen Page in my head, if that makes any sense. And same with say past EZA videos, where you appeared as Ian, people called you Ian and I (not knowing better) saw you as Ian, should we not think of this person in past videos as Ian anymore? Let's say I watch an old EZA video with you, is that person who you used to be, a version of you that doesn't exist anymore, or that never existed or something completely different. I know, that question is super convoluted, but I guess I am trying to understand how we should think of Ian in regards to your identity and your previous output and our previous experiences watching your stuff. Sorry, if that question is rude or seems like deadnaming, it's really not meant to be. Please know, it's coming from a good faith effort to better understand and I wish you nothing but happiness. Also, if I understand correctly the allies already knew for a while, but in public they of course had to refer to you with your old name and pronouns. Where you already using she/they in private and did you use a different name before making Isla official?

Deniz Schreiber

Hey Isla! Thank you for the great and truly spectacular Coming Out video. Nobody mentioned the great intro and song you made. So I will. You look very happy and relieved. Uncaged. You know, that certain kind of radiance you see with people freshly in love. So my question: Are you in love right now? If the other person does not know - Counts. If you are in love with your new yourself - Counts. Take care, have fun and thank you for your postivity and joyful attitute towards this community.

Hi Isla! Congratulations on coming out! I'm so happy you can fully express yourself the way you've wanted to for a long time now. I'm curious about how you've managed the issue of identity during this time, not just in terms of gender but everything that makes you the person you are. I imagine the loss of your parents added an additional obstacle to this process of understanding your identity as our parents play a huge part in helping us see who we are. Does this ring true for you? I believe I noticed references to your journey with your family in the experimental part of your video. I ask because I'm currently dealing with the issue of loss myself and I imagine this issue intertwines with self discovery in a pretty significant way. If this was true for you, was there anything that helped you manage that dynamic? I know this is rather personal so no problem if you'd rather skip this one. L&R!

Ryan Judge

When's the hyperpop album coming? It's basically required reading for every trans artist/musician to be into hyperpop, you know. Love & Respect to you, Isla!

Oscar Magana

Hi Isla! How does changing one's Twitter handle work? Cheers, Volker

Volker Bach

Will Isla and Don still hit the beach?Does this mean we will get an new song?! Love&Respect 💚

Mark Gekko

Hello Isla! You are such an inspiration, I simply adore you I will use my question simply to ask that you describe your first post quarantine/coming out Huber hug, thank you.

Colin Luton

Isla, How did you pick the perfect name for yourself? Love and respect! <3

You described HRT as 'coming off testosterone'. Can you elaborate on this? What did you feel exactly? Was it like lifting a brain fog or something like that?

Carson Khuu

I'll try to ask an easy one for you. Does your transitioning make you more confident in your ability to spell out the word transitioning off the top of your head?

Parasitepaladin

Hi Isla! What is too blasé when it comes to reacting to someone's coming out video? I'm glad to know to call you Isla and not Ian in comments, but for me like - someone being transgender or cisgender kind of doesn't matter beyond that? So, would you rather people just kind of nod and move on (obv use your correct name & pronouns, etc), or would you prefer people to make a bigger deal about your transition? Trying to keep this a brief question and so I hope it doesn't come off jerk-ish. Happy for you and looking forward to your future work! L&R, Kiraz

Kiraz

Hello Isla! So happy for you! Two questions: (the lighter one first) Do you know of any good video games that include trans characters or that tell a story of the transitional process? My parents, being of the baby boomer generation, struggle to understand the motivations and desires of wanting to transition and I've really struggled explaining it to them, having only personally talked about it with close friends. Have you had any experience discussing this with people that have similar mindsets to my parents? What did you say? Thank you! Once again, so thrilled for you and proud. I will continue to support you and EZA as much as I can throughout this next chapter of your life. L&R, Jabbawabs

jabbawabs

Just gonna say your makeup game is on point 👌

When did you first tell the other Allies? Did you tell them as a group or all together? How did it go? Was anyone truly surprised? I'm sure they are all very supportive!

So happy for you, Isla! Are you a fan of Laura Jane Grace, or any other trans musicians? And have you ever taken piano lessons? Asking because I want to get better at writing and recording music, and was curious if lessons are worth it now that I’m fully vaccinated. L&R ❤️❤️❤️

Baba Yaga

So this is gonna be a really fun Halloween year for you right? Any ideas who you will dress up as? I think Ada Wong would be fun. L&R

Joshua Leemon

Hey Isla! Excellent to re-meet you! I was curious if, after transitioning, it's been more difficult to reexamine or revisit things you made or were in prior to your transitioning process (for example seeing clips of old EZA stuff or looking through pictures of when you were young). I understand it's extremely disrespectful to refer to anyone Trans as their 'dead name', and so I was curious if it's difficult, or in any way disrespectful on our part, to look at things from the past before you became the more comfortable version of yourself in a similar way as using a dead name. I'd especially like to hear how we should bring these sorts of things up as time goes on to make you and everyone the most comfortable. Beyond that, could you elaborate a little on the speech therapy you mentioned in your coming out video? I’m curious what sorts of things you practiced! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer questions and educate us! It means a lot.

Happy Gaming

As many before me has written here: No question, just wanted to say I’m happy for you! Much love from Sweden ❤️🇸🇪

Damn you, Rob Slusser! I need a clip of him saying "Hello Isla!" right now, because for years every time I wrote my salute to you, this clip played on my mind: https://youtu.be/-uJ2JMLW_ZU?t=108 You may not believe this, but for the past few months every time you appeared in a show I just thought "Damn, how's Ian doing it? This pandemic is kicking my ass but somehow he just looks more beautiful everyday?" Well, I guess I have my answer now. And since this is a Q&A I do wonder, what's the story behond the name? I guess you wanted to keep the initial and went from there, but I also cannot help but remember this other clip https://youtu.be/7zF98VDxED4?t=292 and wonder your reasons for choosing it. Very happy to meet you, Isla. Talk to you in a couple of weeks in the reaction shots post. Estamos en contact, César.

César Villa

[removed questions as they had already been asked] Hey Isla, firstly, thank you for your strength and willingness to face a very vulnerable and very personal side of your life and sharing that with us. I can't imagine it is easy but I also feel their must be alot of excitement for the future and like a weight is slowly being lifted. I hope it just gets easier and easier from here on out. All the Ls and Rs

No questions, just want to say you're a beautiful person and very happy for you. :)

Hey Isla! YES!!!! This is so awesome, Im so happy for you!!! So I have a couple of questions as a therapist who aspires to work with members of the LGBTQ+ community (currently working my way through learning Eating Disorder treatment): I am noticing your voice sounds very different in your coming out video compared to your most recent podcast episode and cant help but wonder how you explain that. I current have 1 trans client- if my they begin taking testosterone like how they want to, how quickly can we expect their voice to sound different? Also, can you describe what it was like to notice the way your body was changing on HRT? i would love to have some insight as to what my clients can expect from their bodies when beginning HRT. You RULE!!!!! L+R

Congratulations Isla, I'm very happy for you! I recently came out as well but I have barely started my transition. I moved to another state even during the quarantine to live and be around people I knew wouldn't judge me. I wish I had done this decades ago but I don't know how I could have convinced my family. I know what you mean about the fog and the monkey on your back. Waking up everyday and its there. A moment to myself and its there. My question I guess... since I've just rambled on forever is... I feel like I'm too old and too set in a male structure with my body. I've seen great results online, but I know better than to just hope for the best and to get disappointed. Is there anything you suggest looking into or any particular ideas or tips you found along your own journey? It might seem stupid to be so caught up in appearance as a pansexual and very open person... but I want to be perceived as an at least decent looking woman. Wish you the best Isla and happy to see the woman that was always there come out and say hi!

Roxanna Rose

Congratulations! L&R PS the name is perfect 🙌🙌

JDelValle21

Hey Isla, I hope this question doesn't come off poorly, but it's something that has been bugging me that I haven't been able to ask anyone else that has come into who they are during this pandemic. Mid-pandemic, I sort of came to the understanding that I was NB, and it all clicked for me at the time, but as things are winding down where I am and public stuff is happening more and I'm being talked to and addressed with my old pronouns I've started struggling with the conclusion I came to, wondering if I only came to that conclusion about myself for non-genuine reasons, and am experiencing what can at best be described as imposter syndrome. Did you ever struggle with this during your transition and, if so, how did you overcome it? Love and Respect AND Congratulations! Lou

Lou Tenant

Isla, I only have three questions: 1-2) These are personal and not entirely about yourself, so please feel free to disregard it if it's inappropriate: But how did Omar react to the news when you first came out? And since you went from two men sharing a house to a woman and a man sharing one, did you two have to adapt some things and/or create new rules you didn't have before? 3) I most likely will never be able to hug you in person, so my request is if someone close to you can please hug you as dearly and kindly as possible so you can feel a little bit of all the love I have for you? I love all of you and wish you all the best. L & R

Daniel Ribeiro

I may not be an active commenter but I try to come out of my introvert rabbit hole when I have something to say. I am so proud of you Isla. Finding your true self is such a beautiful feeling. Don't let the toxicness of society but u down . Society's opinion on what and who u should be don't mean shit. You have always been my favorite Allie . I will be cheering for you on the sidelines while u r on this new exciting journey 😊 I send u tons of ❤️ and Respect Isla. O yha my question is . Why r u so awesome?

MGS-JUNKIE

Hi Isla. Sorry if this is a bit personal but how are things with Sophia and what will your relationship be like going forward? As I'm unaware of her dating preferences. L+R and wish you all the best!

Platinum Declan

Hi Isla! Glad you'll be feeling more comfortable in your skin! I have a quick practical question, what will be your policy on gendered words moving forward? The Allies are fond of exclaiming "DUDE!" when someone does or says something cool, and it's a traditionally male gendered term, is this something you would seek to change, or you're just not bothered by this at all? Also is there anything about Ian Hinck that you will miss going forward? Is there any part of your personality that you felt you had to suppress before that will come to the fore as Isla now? Sorry for the 20 questions, I'm just excited and curious! L&R!

Ciaran Lyttle

OK that might be super intimate but I do wonder: I always assumed old Ian was gay because he said so at GT times. Now I assume coming out as trans doesn't affect who you are attracted to. Did something in your attraction in other people change in the last years? I remember you where referring of having a girlfriend the last years at EZA but I always assumed that maybe meant your old boyfriend actually came out as trans and that you are bi... Sorry if this is a bit to personal of a question. <3

Rico P.

Hi Isla, As I was thinking of a question I was reading some of the comments and came across one that commented on your topic of how getting on estrogen was like getting off testosterone and as a cis male they didnt quite understand what you meant. So as another cis male I wanted to chime in how I feel about the topic. I too wish I could get off testosterone sometimes not for the same reasons of course but I do feel it has affected me negatively. I'm a generally very shy non impulsive person, but what I assume was the peak of my body producing a lot of testosterone. I felt way more aggressive, high libito and impulsive. I would constantly do stupid stuff and even slammed this random kid I never met into the lockers one day just because he looked too happy and I was in a mood. I still feel bad about it… Now over 10 years later my body has chilled out and I don't feel that way any more, but there are still times where I feel it affects me. Looking forward to hearing your explanation to the other commenters question and I still Don't really have a question but… Soup?

Dai Nguyen

I don't have a question. I'm just here to comment - for the first time ever, I think, despite subbing for ages - to say I'm really happy for you being able to be who you are. That's it. No question, just happy vibes.

John Cal McCormick

That's my question as well. How natural does it feel to use your new voice, how easy or difficult is it to use this voice constantly? I feel like it would take a lot of training to do it, maybe like constantly singing everything? All the best to you Isla!

Timo Arnken

So happy for you! I have a quick question, why did you pick the pronouns she/they instead of she/her? Does it mean something or is it more of a personal choice? Hope this isn't an offensive question, I'm just asking to educate myself! L&R, wishing for your happiness Isla!

Oh also I read someone say that you’re dating Sophia? Is that a thing? I know I’ve seen her around over the years but I didn’t think she was anything besides an awesome friend.

Isla, At what point do you feel you cross the line between being a feminine male, and that you are really a trans women? This is something I personally struggle to wrap my head around as an LGBTQ ally. I’m very much an androgynous straight guy. I couldn’t care less about most of the traditional male gender roles, nor the female ones. I just flat out reject them. It’s lead to people calling me girly etc and I really don’t care. I’m comfortable in my own skin. Similarly, I have had many friends that are women but aren’t girly, and might accept more male gender roles than I do. If you could help shed some light on this topic I’d appreciate it. I would also understand if this isn’t the type of question that you were meaning for people to ask, and you can guilt free disregard. I’m very happy for you ♥️

Tony

Hi Isla, if this question is too intimate feel free to skip it ☺️ How far in your own trans process are you? I know someone who was born female but identifies as a male and his journey was long and involved multiple surgeries. He’s a cool dude 😉 But it made me wonder how long a road you still have ahead of you. ❤️ & ✊

Sebastian Erben

I came here to see if my question was already asked, but instead, I found someone in a similar position to mine. I have found myself to be contemplating labeling myself bi and NB after this past year because I've found myself being attracted to both genders but also referring to myself as both genders. Though after a lot of consideration I've found that labels are often useful to explain yourself to other people, but if you are comfortable with yourself, they ultimately don't matter. Now, ofc, this is a very personal thing, but I thought my perspective might help. I also used to feel that imposter syndrome because I wasn't 'ticking all the boxes' that I've seen being used for bi and NB people, and that's where I find the labels, in general, to be too restrictive (which I why I came to the conclusion I did). But once again, it's a very personal thing, and I hope I haven't inadvertently caused any offense.

I would like to know more about your choice of name as well. How did the process of finding you - I guess true - name go or was there no process and the name was somehow clear 😊

Sebastian Erben

No questions. Just sharing some L&R.

Nicholas Bobbie

Not that I don't love the new name, but was it chosen so isla and don can hit the beach?

Daniel Mogo Sanchez

Since you seem to be approaching from a place of genuinely wanting to understand, I wanted to give you a heads up that "transgender(s)" when used as a noun is generally considered offensive. Transgender person/man/woman, or a shortened trans person/man/woman, is the correct way to refer to someone who is trans. Similarly "She is trans(gender)" is a good sentence while "She is a trans(gender)" would be considered offensive. In the same vein, the term "Transgendered" is another word tends to be frowned upon and should be avoided. Hopefully that will help in any future convos you might have with trans people to avoid accidentally causing offence! L&R

My question: you're wonderful and I'm so happy for you? Please answer in as much detail as you're able.

hisownsidekick

Hello Isla! In the video you mentioned that testosterone felt like a drug that you didn't want to be on. Would you mind elaborating on that a little bit? As a cis male I've never really felt aware of my testosterone, and I can't really imagine what being "off" of it would feel like as I can't really even place what *it* is. Would love to learn more about what that's like if you'd be willing. L&R!!

Hi Isla, and congratulations on coming out! I've been thinking more and more that I may be trans/want to transition, but I feel more ambivalent and questioning than dead certain: I can't tell whether I'm at a threshold or just lost in the fog. Did you experience that uncertainty? Do you have any suggestions for feeling more sure and confident in myself one way or another about transition, like speaking to a therapist? L&R!

Lynn X

Hi Isla! Long-time fan. I wanted to ask a personal question about my own self-identification. I've been struggling recently to determine where I fit in in my sexual identity. I'm traditionally a heterosexual male. My only relationships have been with heterosexual and binary females. However, I find men attractive and have had non-sexual intimate encounters with guys before and enjoyed it. In truth I can't envision a long-term relationship with a guy, but maybe that's just because I've never found the right person. Should I feel imposter syndrome by identifying as bi or pansexual? Should I just continue to say I'm hetero even tho I don't exclusively feel that's true? Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated! I'm very proud of you and thankful for someone like you in our community! Love & Respect!

You have released a few games on itch.io - did you put any secrets or references into those games that no one has discovered yet? What's your favorite secret in a video game?

D M

So much congrats to you. Being a father of 3 young boys I can only hope they grow up to be as brave and courageous as you in everything you all do. That being said - I’m sure your tastes haven’t changed - so even though I don’t normally have time for streams - Id be down to have you do a play through of some retro games you may enjoy - play trough of PC Quest for Glory 4 Shadows of Darkness or the 3 Gabriel Knight games? That would be amazing. L&R with all you do!

Graeme Hill

Hello Isla, I have to say your coming out video is wonderful. Been replying to comments in the comment section on that video and that has been a thing but worth it as you, like most good people, are worth defending. Your name is beautiful and I don't want this to sound weird or offputting but I was wondering if your name has any significant meaning to you other then it obviously being a lovely name? I would love to hear the story if there is one. Thank you so much for everything you do Isla and remember above all else, you are important and loved.

Just signed up to say congrats. Great to see the bravery as I'm sure it was a moment filled with a lot of emotion. Loved the intro to the vid. Reactions shots is amazing btw. Nice to remeet you Isla!

Hi Isla, not a question - just want to say that I'm extremely happy for you and seeing more and more people living as their full, amazing selves gives me so much pride and hope that I might be able to come out myself one day to the people I love. It's like Captain Holt says: "Everytime someone steps up and says who they are, the world becomes a better, more interesting place." L&R <3

Hey Isla! So yeah this is a question coming from someone who doesn’t really know what he believes about transgenderism. I don’t have as difficult of a time grasping how a homosexual feels but transgenders confuse me (and please don’t take that as an offense I just have had little to no exposure in western Kentucky). My question is this: what is it that makes you feel like you are a woman? If that’s asked in offensive terms please excuse me because I truly do not know if it is. It’s just I don’t understand how sex defines someone to a point that they feel they are the wrong one. Like I am not a very masculine male yet I still believe I am a male regardless if there are things society tells me are not masculine that are a part of my being. Is there a point between genuinely feeling you are a different sex vs feeling bullied by society to make you feel like something is wrong with you feeling one way but your body is another. I’m sorry if this is all over the place and I understand if this is a question you don’t want to answer. I just curiously want to understand better and I don’t know anyone personally in my life who is and when you live around a lot of souther conservatives, you don’t learn much about this issue. Thanks Isla!

Hi Isla, just a quick question, how are you so awesome?

RobBobWill

Hey Isla, I pretty much never comment on Patreon, but just wanted to say I'm super happy for you. I've been watching you and the other Allies for years (GT team back in the day) and the fact that you feel like you're being yourself with people finally is fantastic. L&R.

Hi Isla! First of all, massive congratulations! I'm so happy for you and the joy this transition brings you in the future!! As for my question, I know you mentioned in the video that this was something you have been thinking over for a few years, but did the previous year, and the sort of chaotic state of the world, have any effect on your decision to better yourself with this transition? I found myself looking to better myself and discover things about me not only during the pandemic, but even still today where it seems things are at a turning point for the better. Once again, so happy for you! And I think I can speak for many in the community when I say how humbling it is to be a part of the this amazing moment for you! L&R!

Hey Isla, I don't have a question but I just wanted to send you my love. As a transwoman myself I know how difficult the process of coming out can be, it must have been extra stressful having to do it while being in the public eye. It really warms my heart to see how happy you've become now you're truly finding out who you are - all the best for the future, L!

Broderick Gordes

How did your son take the news?

Hey Isla! Not really a question, but i just wanted to say that i absolutely love all of this! It must have been difficult to share such a personal thing with all of us but i am confident that you can inspire a lot of people to take that huge step as well. We love you for who you are. A huge amount of love and respect <3 <3 <3

Apologies if someone already asked. But I wondered (similar to the Wachowski's or Elliot page) what is the proper mindset when referencing Dead-names in context to work created in the past? I'm fully sensitive to the idea that the same person lived in different bodies, but does someone referencing work done by Ian as Isla? or do we reference the Dead name when talking about past work? My guess is to just replace all references as Isla past or present? Good night and good game Yo!

Isla!!! 💜💜💜 I’m so happy for you! Wow, thank you for sharing yourself so much with us. We are so lucky to have you in this community! I’ve been coming to terms with my own pansexuality, and as an almost-30-year-old, it feels so strange and right to accept this finally about myself. My question for you is: what’s an activity or practice you do to self-comfort?

Hi Isla!! Loving this and so happy for you! You mentioned this having been (in retrospect) a feeling since childhood—I would be curious about some of those earlier moments if you are willing to share. Also what has the process been like updating your wardrobe, personal care products, makeup etc. Stressful? Fun? Expensive? All the above? L&R

Bdun912

Hey Isla, I'm sooo happy for you! Was smiling through the whole video, seeing how happy you are. How did you come to choose Isla as your name, if that's not too personal? Did it just feel natural or was it a process of choosing between different names? I'm excited to grow a deeper understanding about being trans through you and the experiences you're willing to share. Love & Respect, marv

Hey Isla, Congratulations on the transition! Also, fuck the haters! Just wanted to thank you for helping me through some dark times with your amazing easy updates. Honestly, there's nothing better than kicking back and catching an episode at midnight (I'm on the east coast). You da best. -bengal_party on twitch

Hi Isla, now that you’ve transitioned what’s one thing you’re looking forward to doing as the new you? Alternatively, is there an article of clothing you’ve been dying to wear, or a clothing store you really want to shop at? Many heartfelt congratulations. L&R - Raker

How has the voice coach training been? That's a whole new concept to me and something that must not be easy.

Hi Isla, so happy for you! No question, just wanted to say as a trans woman who also started transitioning during the pandemic last year, coming out to people you haven't seen in months is weird.

msboo001

Hey Isla, since I also went through all of this myself, are you changing your legal name and do you need help wading through the process?

R.F. Switch

Hi Isla, first I wanted to say congratulations on feeling comfortable enough to come out to everyone. And my question is, I was just wondering how it was these past few months with not many people knowing and everyone still calling you by your old name. Thanks, L & R

Hi Isla, first off you're an amazing person and I'm very glad you've decided to reveal yourself unashamedly to the world, it's a very brave thing to do and that takes a lot of courage and heart. I just want to ask do you feel your mental health has improved since coming out?

No question. Just know I’m incredibly proud of you. You were already one of the most talented people I follow on the internet, but now I’m in awe of how impressive you are as a person. Hey Isla, Much love to you. I dont want to this to come off as offensive, I just want to understand better. Speech therapy - Did your voice not feel like your voice? Or the voice in your head? Im just trying to understand how it must to try and learn to speak the way it is you feel, or if you could elaborate on it/the process. Cheers, Phil

Phil Walker

Hey Isla, This is a momentous occasion, and I am happy for ya! Onto the question - this might be one of the weirder ones you get. Did you play as primarily female characters in video games because they were a way you could safely express who you really were without facing some of the negative consequences you had mentioned in "Coming Out Spectacular?" Lily of the Joe Goes youtube channel explained that she wore costumes on Halloween("The Cost of Costumes") as a method of doing that - expressing yourself without having to worry about the long term consequences of coming out. The most interesting thing about it, to me, was that after she came out, she no longer felt the same joy from wearing costumes because she was no longer pretending. Do you feel a similar way about the characters you create in video games? I guess the heart of my long-winded question is, what are some things you did do that you don't feel like you have to anymore? -Greg

Will you do more Jurassic Park streams with Don so that you two can constantly make "Isla Nublar" jokes?

No questions, just L&R.

Isla I just watched the EZ update, and I’m in tears of joy, this means so much to me. I had a girlfriend who is trans and when we first me she was 6 months into hormones and hadn’t come out yet. Going with her through that journey as much as I could was an important experience for me, and this relationship started around the same time EZA did. As time passed I started to notice feminine qualities you possess, to a point where I said to a fellow Ally/best friend “they feel like a woman who hasn’t transitioned yet” and at some point i knew it had to be true and a part of me wanted to reach out and say something to you I really did but who am I ya know, now I feel bad I didn’t say something sooner to encourage you, but that doesn’t matter now, I’m just so happy for you I love you and I’m so excited for you to be able to go see the guys in person at the studio after all this time. L&R

Congrats! Everybody deseves to be comfortable in their own skin. Having the surport you have i know you will be great. Love and respect to you isla.

Louise Brown

Love and Respect Isla, and all the best wishes going forward! I do have one question though; has The Chrysallis always been a metaphor for the transition, or is it by its very nature a distortion of perceptive reality beyond the realm of mortal understanding, and must be protected from Salmon Globe at all costs?

Haravikk

Less serious question here that you hopefully will find a little amusing: Will you still be the wizard on Mysterious Monsters when/if it returns? Or will you be the witch? Or even some weird hybrid like wizitch, witchard, or maybe just now a full blown Lich? Very stoked for and proud of you Isla! Much love, Much Respect.

Happy for you Isla!!

Christian Jimenez

I am so excited/happy for you! Love and respect!

I have a question; or.. feelings ? I know a lot of people who transitioned; but i never had someone i "knew" as long as i "knew" Ian; that transitioned... and i'm happy for you; but i also feel a bit sad and have the feeling i'm going to miss Ian; is that okey to say ? Is that something you have to deal with yourself ? Or like; be prepared for close friends to "say goodbye" (?) To Ian ? Welcome Isla; Love & Respect 3000 ! I hope my questions where not offensive or rude.

Hello, question for you: A peer of mine in university around 2016-2017 transitioned too. We'd talk over the course of our undergrad about video games but we weren't particularly close with one another. In our final year of school she told me she was transitioning and things were going well. We were so focused on our thesis projects from September-February that when her and I talked next, her voice went from her prior voice that I was accustomed to hearing , to a new more feminine-sounding one. If I had to describe how her voice sounded, it was a lot like your voice in the Coming Out - Easy Update episode. I really wasn't comfortable asking her anything about her voice because we were more like school-friends more so than close friends, but I have to admit, the voice surprised me and I wanted to ask about it. So I ask this question earnestly and with respect: Is your new voice a result of the hormone therapy or is it more along the lines of altering your presentation (i.e. long hair) to match your gender? Pardon my ignorance, I hope I asked that in a way where you understand me. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to respond to me when the onus isn't on you to overexplain your life to people like me. Wishing you well, L&R - Michael Rebellato

Congratulations! You look so genuinely happy, it makes my heart want to burst. Question: I will sometimes watch old episodes of ManUps and that character was such a hyper-masculine, sarcastically sexually charged persona that I wonder - was that stage of development a reaction or a way of coping? I may clumsy in my words here, but it reminds me of some of the anger, frustration, and self-deprecation that that Laura Jane Grace has talked about. I'm glad that, as you say, the fog has lifted for you.

Liz Castro

CONGRATULATIONS! I am so happy for you, Isla. As far as my "question" goes, I'd actually like to hear you talk about the filming and production of the beautiful announcement video you made. I'm curious as to your process in thinking up the idea, when you started working on it and what it was like filming the live action section. (Quick shout out to our mutual pal Jason, as I see that he worked on part of it as well.)

Congratulations Isla!

No questions. Just love love love and all the fuckin respect. You da best!!!!!

no questions, just wanted to say hi to you Isla ❤️ incredibly happy for you!

Hey Isla, As a dirty queer myself, it's been pretty obvious to me that you've had your fair share of "gender stuff" going on for a while now. I still remember in the Ryan Easy Update where you described yourself as a "quasi-out genderqueer". I'm mainly curious what prompted the shift from "quasi-out" to "fully transitioning"? Did you tell the other allies a while ago? Did you mostly stay "closeted" to avoid internet hate? Just curious b/c I was wondering if this day would ever come. Excited to see that it has and good luck with everything!

Arnesh Nagavalli

No Question. Love & Respect. Lets GOOOOO!

Congrats!

Isla it's so wonderful to see you come out as your true self and living your best life. I imagine finally getting to show your true self is extremely liberating. With the allies returning to the studio in a couple of weeks, is it a bit nerve-wracking, or are you excited? A bit of both? And did the return to the studio seem like the best time to come out, or was the timing coincidental? Again I can't stress how much I have always appreciated your perspective. Thank you for being you! Love and respect, a fellow woman and fan. <3

Congratulations! This might be a stupid question but what is the correct way to address you when talking about old stuff, let's say Mandatory Update? I wish you all the best, L&R from Germany.

Congratulations for the courage Isla. Not much to ask honestly, Im just waiting for this video because I really dont understand enough about all these issues, I'll just learn! Just wondering. why that name? Im from Spain and "Isla" (ees-la) means "Island", anything to do with that? L&R, Andrés

Congratulations Isla! You seem so much more comfortable in your own skin now than before. ♥️ Keep being you. Is this your final form, or will you go even further beyond? (Not a surgical question, just wanted to make a DBZ joke) Love and Respect! Spencer from Canada

Hey Isla! I'm so happy for you! Kind of a dumb question and sorry for my not perfect English. I think I’m bisexual. In fact my first sexual experience was with a man. I have not come out yet to anyone really. I think my family and friends would mostly be ok with it, but I wish that nothing really changes with them. I don’t know if there is a relation to what you were going through. But I would like to hear your thought process on what finally let to it and your journey to that decision. Would it be ok just not do it at all? I know I’m very lucky in this situation that I could pass as straight. But I often think, maybe this year. L&R Chris

carlosla213

Hi Isla! :) I don't comment much anymore but I've been following you (and easy allies) since the gametrailers days. Love the content, best in the bizz etc etc. I'm really happy for you and also happy to see the floods of positive comments coming in from several places. Don't really have a question but much love and a lot of respect ^-^/

Congratulations, Isla I'm so happy for you!! ☺️♥️ I don't have a question just that I've been trying to make Easy Isla-iies work so hard in my head 😂

Hi Isla! I also grew up in Wisconsin and know how...desolate it felt while growing up. I felt like I really only learned things about other people, "the world", and frankly, myself, when I left when I was 17. I think I found my true self at 25 or 26 and really felt comfortable in my own skin and with my role in my own happiness, which was something I honestly paid no attention to or even realized was a thing until after I went through hardship and some failure. I'm so glad that you are taking the steps needed to feel like yourself because there is no better feeling in the world. Edit: Forgot my question: Did other things start making sense, or click, when you started transitioning? I bet it was a great relief. Congratulations Isla!

Easy Allies, no longer a group of men talking about video games on the internet! Congratulations, you already seem happier than before.

Tres leches, carrot cake or devil's cake? Also, as far as clothes, what are you dying to try on? Have you bought a lot of new clothes?

Matheus Manchester

Hi Isla! Do you have any favorite trans artists or authors? Charlie Jane Anders is a favorite writer of mine and I would recommend her novel "All the Birds in the Sky" to everyone

Were you and Lailia ever one and the same? Does Lailia -- in some sense abstracted from the instances of characters thus named -- live on? As a concept? A representation of feminine identity? Or maybe the process of self-knowing?

Congrats! wishing you the best. does the at mean sofia is gay? or just a friend? cheers 👍

First of all you are amazing, and so happy for you. Now for probably the most stupid question here why it's spelled Isla with an s if it's silent, I am not a native speaker and maybe it's something I don't know but I'm curious I wish I had half of your courage 💚

bangos

Love you Isla ❤❤, keep making that mediocre art and I'll keep watching it forever!

Isla I just want to say I'm so so happy for you. And so happy to have a gal in the allies to represent the ladies (though I always felt that energy coming from you!) :D Your hair was so beautiful in the new vid you looked wonderful.

Did you officially change your name to Isla or do you just want to be called Isla? I doesnt really matter but Im curious how that works :D

First of all, good for you and all of the love and respect. I'm curious if other public personalities coming out recently (James Stephanie Sterling, Abigail Thorn) had an impact on your decision to make your transition public. Do see more pubic support than you expected?

Sam Sorensen

Super happy for you Isla. You mentioned the gradual move from thinking of yourself as genderqueer to being a woman. Is there anything that sticks out as helping you make that realization? Maybe something that made you think you weren't genderqueer or something that made you think you were definitely a woman.

Andy H

Just joining in on the HUGE CONGRATS with everyone here!! Isla is such a beautiful name and I wish nothing more than happiness for you as you continue on this journey. <3

Hello Isla! The world is a more beautiful place by having you in it and I'm glad we all finally get to meet you and that you can be yourself openly and sincerely. So.... now can you tell us how you actually feel about The Last Gaurdian, and how you new it was a 10 all along? Jk jk But for real, what was it like going through with this during the pandemic? How did you balance such a life changing event with what was in itself a global life changing experience for us all? Did you ever think of waiting until the dust settled, or maybe with all that was happening it was a now or never situation? L&R always ♥

Michael Stevens

So happy for you! My Q is did you ever consider Lalia as your first name, as I know it's one you use often for gaming. L&R!

Patrick Held

yay! wow there's a lot of questions already so sorry if they get repeated. I noticed at the end of the video you said 'the other guys', I actively try not to use 'guys' when referring to a group of people as I'm a bit worried of assuming anyones gender and to me it feels very male. I know some women will call each other 'dude, guy' etc so I suppose it's a personal thing, how do you feel about that? oh, and did you feel rushed to make this announcement by the upcoming return to the studio? anyway, very happy for you!

David Warren

Congrats! How do you anticipate this change altering your contributions to EZA, if at all? L&R!

I'm very happy for you 😊

I got nothing to ask, you keep doing what you're doing. Love and Respect, Isla.

Congrats Isla! Finally some diversity at Easy Allies. I kid I kid! Will you miss being Ian at all? Is that a thing that happens? Looking forward to learning so much more about you. Thank you for sharing this with us. L&R

Michael Federico

Hey Isla! I’m so incredibly happy for you! 💕 you look beautiful in your coming out outfit by the way! My question is kind of a spin off of the typical “what do you look forward to doing after quarantine is over” question. So at the risk of being cliche what is the thing you look forward to doing the most when the world is fully open and safe now that you have come out? Came back because I thought of another question. Since you’ve been in the public eye for so long with so many videos of you pre transition out there how does it feel to watch the videos of yourself from the past? XoXo

Caitie Garza

I don’t have any questions Isla, just wanted to say congrats again!

Samuel Hall

Did you pick the name Isla because its a Scottish name? Or does it have any other significance to you? All the best from Scotland and congratulations!

Hey Isla, i along with so many others are extremely happy with you and support you, just because you have come out doesn't mean the struggle is entirely over, what do you think would be best for you to help from the community?

Jack Forrest

So incredibly happy for you, Isla! How different do you think the last year would have been for you had there not been the pandemic in regards to your hormone therapy and transition? Major love & respect to you!

Congrats Isla! Is there any clothing you were reluctant to wear before your announcement but now are excited to to start wearing? I imagine there is gonna be so much fun stuff to try!

Ian Barker

Congratulations Isla! No question, just here to show my support. L&R <3

This will probably sound ignorant, for which I apologize, but how should I think of/refer to you in the past? Like, memories I have of you in videos or whatever. I guess this is a broader trans question, but I obviously don't expect you to answer for the trans community but rather just for yourself.

Josh Read

OK this might be way too personal, but if you think it's out of place just ignore it or delete it (I really don't mean to cause any problems and English ist my mother tongue). Since starting taking hormones, have you felt any changes regarding how you feel about things? There's an old episode of this American life with a trans guy who says he slowly started to become one of the gross assholes he used to despise as a girl and it was like he couldn't do anything about it, as if some aspects of his behavior came with being a man which I always thought it was a load of bs, but then again maybe it wasn't completely false? L&R

Seeing the struggle of transitioning through your eyes has really helped me to understand what people mean when they say they’re in the “wrong” body. What was that feeling like, day to day, and how does it feel to be in the right body? Love you, Isla. P.S. how did/does it feel to play a video game with a female character? Was it comforting or even a bit psychedelic? I’ve found that controlling a character through games, can be an extremely intimate experience. Have you ever had an intense reaction playing as a woman, even an “out of body experience”? Again, love you, Isla.

Hey Isla you've always been an inspiration for me to be who I am so seeing you come out a few months after I've come too out makes me so goddamn happy, really, I started this message at the middle of the video and I've gone from happy, to crying to laughing. As you've said quarantine helps a bit, but do you have any advice for people about just trying new clothes, etc?

Hi Isla!

You seem happy, and I hope you know how much this community truly appreciates and supports you for being you! Maximum Love and Respect, Isla!

RanchoCucamunga

Always wishing you the best, you are the best. Happy for you. Respect the courage, you never turn your back on why you're here. Lots of love my friend.

UziSuicide666

3 questions: 1. Are those your eyeballs on the video walls in the music video? 2. Isla's Journey RPG Maker style game on Itch.io when? 3. How can you be this amazing?

Luveen Rupchand Wadhwani

From the things we've spoken of in the past I did feel this was always you, and I'm happy to see you say it loud. Much love x

Richard G Flowers

You mentioned why you transitioned but what caused you to go public when you did? Was that a particular reason?

Jordan Ney

Hey Isla! Thank you very much for sharing with the community! It seems you are extremely happy of finally coming out and letting everybody know who you are, but, what has been the hardest part about transitioning? L&R Jon

LOVE the name Isla! It has such a feeling to it that I totally see coming from your mind. And you're a gorgeous woman already! HRT is working it's wonders. L&R

Mags Moratto

How relieved are you now this announcement is behind you? Must be a huge weight off your shoulders. A coworker of mine is transitioning right now and I know for him it's been quite difficult. I have lots of respect for you for doing this in front of so many people. I'm really happy for you that you can finally be the person you wanted to be. L&R

Congrats on becomeing you. I had two questions 1st how did you pick your name? And second is what would you tell someone who was scared of transitioning cuz they wouldnt feel "pretty". I have a friend who is 6'3 and just massive who feels they should have been born a girl but are scared to try cuz the way they look now.

What do you think of Madonna's la isla bonita? L&R

Simón Carvajal Bobadilla

My only question is how are you so great??? Got nothing for you except love and respect and support and excitement and I'm overjoyed for you and will continue looking forward to any future Isla featured/edited EZA content <3

Squirrels or ducks?

Fluffhead108

So happy for you Isla, Love and Respect

Ultan O'Connell

Congratulations Isla! I have more of a question about the video itself! When did you make the game/graphics renders for the intro section and is that music behind it from your upcoming music project? Very excited for your future and thank you for sharing with the community!

Nick Sossi

Hey Isla, Hope your weekend is off to a solid start. Just curious, what is your favorite dinosaur? Thanks!

Matt Borjes

I keep trying to say Isla, apologies. I'm glad you were able to take the time to transition during the Pandemic, rather than try during something like E3 or that.

Cathal Fallon

Was anyone you came out to privately surprised? Congrats and L&R Lee

Tommy Lee

Hi Isla! Like I said on Twitter, I'm stoked to see you be true to yourself and having the courage of sharing with the world! I just have a simple question and I apologize if this appears too informal. I always want to address everyone with proper respect, and as I've done over the course of EZA, I've always addressed everyone with "Mr." so with your pronouns, should I address you with "Miss" or "Ms." or do you prefer I use just your first name? I feel weird using someone's first name if I haven't had the privilege of meeting them in person (So much so, even the beginning of this message feels odd for me at the moment), but again, I want to make sure I'm addressing you properly for any future question or comment, be it here in an L&R question, Community Showcase post, etc. Thank you again for reading and answering if you choose to, and have a wonderful rest of your day! L&R Ally! <3

Brandon K Gann

Can I just say congratulations? CONGRATS!!! Hope this brings you happiness beyond expectations ! L&R

I'm happy you had the strength and confidence to share this with the world! You can tell how comfortable you feel in the video. I was curious about the voice lessons. I hadn't heard about this before, is it to help with adjusting to the changes from the hormones? Or is it more about finding a new voice that feels like you?

Garrett Hulfish

First off thank you for feeling comfortable enough with the community to come out. I think it takes a lot of courage to do that, but especially when in the public eye. My question is, is there anything we as a community can do to help with the transition and make you feel like the best Isla you can be? :) all the love and respect.

I’m so happy for you, Isla! I don’t have any questions, just want to give you a virtual hug and congratulations!

Isaiah Matthews

Hello Isla, I am very happy for you! I have only met a few LGBT people in my life, so I am not really used to this. I feel like my brain has a really hard time with changing a persons pronouns or names, so I will have to try really hard. I'm kind of curious if you met many people like that; who are supportive of your transition but also feel kind of awkward about it. I feel like there's some kind of prejudice in the back of my mind that I am pushing away. Does that sound weird? Anyway, I have been watching your stuff for years now, will be excited to see what comes next! L&R - Ian, @alexander_arts

Ian Alexander

I know this has been a while in coming and I'm glad that as rough as this past year has been you have been able to find clarity and strength to be your true self 💜💜💜 question though... How have you dealt with body hair? I remember some past videos you have had leg or armpits exposed and I didn't notice any hair and a comment you made to JesslynnVerdi "get some lasers up in them pits" and I wondered if you had laser hair removal. If so did it hurt and is it expensive? My leg hair is so fine over the years of wearing "skinny jeans" I pretty much have no more leg hair but I hate shaving my pits. I have been afraid to look into laser hair removal for fear it would be painful and thought of as overindulgence or vain by my family who think the money could be better spent elsewhere. Thank you for your time.

JessieBlu

Hi Isla. Please forgive if this is ignorant or insensitive in any way. My wife and I just watched your coming out video and my wife genuinely wants me to ask, how do your hair to look so pretty as that? She's very envious of your wavy hair, apparently.

For any of us that has followed you. I feel as though there were always little hints leading up to this. Which I mean with the most respect. How you identify has always seem quite ambiguous to me. Now that you are fully out, things are much clearer and I’m happy to see you realize this step. All the best to you Isla! L&R

Frisket

Congratulations, and I know this is shallow, but I love the hair! If it’s not inappropriate to ask, when did you come out to the Allies and were you ever nervous about their reactions? I’ve accidentally deadnamed or misgendered my trans friends from time to time, never on purpose, of course. It’s also easier to slip-up when I’ve known the person since before their transition. I think you can usually tell whether someone is being malicious, ignorant, or absent-minded with deadnaming and misgendering, but have you had to take any friends or family aside to implore them to try to do better at identifying you properly? How did they react, and how did you handle them? -You are loved, you are respected, you are special, and we’ve got your back, now and forever. Promise.

zak wojnar

When did you tell the other Allies? Was this a team effort on how to communicate this to community? Best of luck to you.

My initial reaction: wow, Isla's clearly been leaning this way for quite some time, and I'm incredibly happy for her that she feels comfortable being her true self. Congratulations! My second reaction: This is very reminiscent of PhilosphyTube! So, my question is (assuming you're familiar with PhilosophyTube): What was it like to watch Abby come out? She went through the very similar experience of presenting as a man online for her job for a full year after she started transitioning in her private life, and that sounds so difficult to me. Did seeing her talk about it and the support she got help you in any way? I'm also curious, if you're comfortable sharing, about what you think your plans may have been had we not been in quarantine this past year, and if you think the coming out would have been delayed further if the return to the studio wasn't approaching. Thanks for the wonderful coming out video and the Q&A. Congrats again! Edit: I realized while watching EZA content the past few days that your deadname is all over the place. I hope that doesn't cause you too much heartache.

Brainfreeze

No question, just lots and lots of love! Congratulations!

Glad you're ready to finally do this. One of my closest friends has recently transitioned as well. Anyway, my question is, are you legally changing your name and will you have to change the legal stuff with owning part of Easy Allies? Legally changing your name is quite the undertaking because there's always something you'll forget.

The Banana Forklift Killer

First off, dope video. What a way to come into the world. Secondly, your name is one of those names that my mouth has a really difficult time with. Seriously, I work in schools and every time I see it, I'm afraid of mispronouncing it. Could you say it a few times just so my dumb ears get used to it?

MountLatino

Are you legally Isla now? Are you aware that Isla is island in Spanish? And the most important thing is, in Mystery Monsters are you going to be a witch now? Hopefully my questions didn't come out too aggressive English ain't my first language Im just so happy for you L&R

My cousin transitioned a little while back but I haven't seen her (used to be him) since and I'd like to have advice on how to make her feel accepted and understood. It may sound silly, but I have not been around much transgender people and I'm worried to behave or say things that could hurt her as a generally clumsy guy. I'm very happy for her to finally be herself after 40 something years, I just want to make sure she knows that without me being overly intense/obvious. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. Thanks. L&R.

Philippe Tremblay

It’s very nice to meet you Isla :) My question is, with all EZA content being over zoom you were able to save your announcement for when you were ready, but was there a period of time before you started that you pre-recorded any shows or anything like that because you were worried about how your transition would affect you? Most Easy Allies things are dependent on what movies, games, or TV shows are coming that week so this might be a stupid question but I’d love to hear any production stories of yours from the last year. Congratulations :)

Congrats, happy for you!

Will Isla and Don be hitting the beach again, again, again at some point?!

David Kenyon

First off, much love & respect Isla! I'm excited for you and wishing you the best. Second, what are some ways that the EZA community can best support you?

lc

Can we expect you to be rejoining the main show sometime soon (feels like you haven't been on lately, maybe because of this news)? :D Additionally, I assume the other allies have been supportive. Can you go into what it was like to come out to them? If too personal, no worries. Congrats and I'm looking forward to the future! PS looking forward to Isla's Torture Chamber. Make more laser puzzles for Huber!

Jack Graves

So proud of you Isla! I have two questions that truly come from a place of curiosity. The first is how did you choose your name? And the second is how did you balance your deadnamed self with who you really are in life? Because I can only imagine it has been difficult to be in front of the camera as someone you no longer are for as long as you did it.

Todd Kremer

I assume you already spoke about this behind closed doors with Sophia, but how has this affected your relationship? Does this mean your girlfriend is/was always a lesbian? I know thats very personal, so I understand if you don't want to answer it, doubly so since its not entirely about yourself.

Kuranghi

I'm just here to say I'm happy for you. To see your journey from when I first saw you during Game Trailers. Looking forward to seeing more of you Isla. L&R

Swordfish00830

Hello Isla! Thank you so much for your openness, honesty, and sharing some of the aspects of your journey. I'm about to graduate from medical school (and be a real doctor, yikes!) and we haven't had a lot of training on how to sensitively and appropriately handle discussions about transitioning with people/patients. I have zero like... Moral issues or anything of the sort with and and want to be able to help support and encourage patients (and friends and family members too) with their goals, but I'm pretty unsure on how to appropriately tackle these conversations. What advice would you have, either putting yourself in the shoes of a hypothetical someone else OR if relevant/comfortable discussing what your own experiences were like with the medical system, to ensure that I and other medical professionals are handling these interactions with the appropriate sensitivity and tact? Love and respect!

MatureBradley

But seriously though like if you have a cyclops or a centaur, what fruit will you microwave? It's a simply question, Isla! I kid, I kid (just finished watching fast & loose). Congratulations. I wish all the best to you! Important question: which of Lady D's daughters are you going to be with Halloween?

TwoDotsO

Congrats Isla. I’m happy for you

Greg Kettering

I have no question, but I just want to add my voice to say I'm so happy for you! And that video was the most awesome, on brand way to announce it! Your creativity continues to be a source of inspiration for me.

Firstly congratulations, so happy for you and see you so comfortable, Isla. My question is something I've wondered whenever someone comes out as trans, what exactly does it feel like to not be in the "right" body. You mentioned it's like a being on drug you didn't like but are you able to explain that more. Like, what kind of situations really amplified the feeling that something felt different? Again super pleased for you and hope that you get all the respect you deserve.

So happy for you and a true congrats to you! Just curious is there any special meaning to your name Isla? It’s very unique and pretty and I’m just curious if you had any thought process behind it? Love you and keep being strong and amazing! ❤️

Megan Linart

So so so happy for you Isla!! Glad that you are able to live comfortably in your own skin. But obviously the most important question to ask is, has your transition impacted your love for modular synths in anyway? Do you love them even more now?
