Cup of Jones - January 31, 2022

Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhSszfX7gGM

I was debating on doing a second editorial today on our 2020 Awards, now that the winners are public, including GOTY. Our Patrons were thinking the same thing, as today’s episode is full of questions and curiosities surrounding the process of ending a year of reviewing games. So for today’s editorial, also based on a few patron comments, I’ll briefly talk about my headspace going into this Friday’s in-person, all-hands meeting. Being patrons and Cup-viewers, you may be among the only people tuned into the fact that our big 2021 planning session is this week. Since I’m only one vote of eight, I can’t promise specific change, but I can revisit a few concerns raised on Cup in 2021 and bring them to the group.

DISCLAIMER: I take questions from the post comments on the previous week’s episode here on Patreon. You can ask a business-related question which I may answer live, or a personal question which I may answer below. If your business question was not answered live, I either replied to it in the comments, or referenced the answer in a recent episode. Feel free to inquire why your question wasn't included, or ask the same question a second time if you think I may have missed it. I will edit your comment/question before reading it live to ensure the show moves as quickly as possible. I typically grab all the questions by midnight (PT) the night before each episode.

Cup of Jones - January 31, 2022

Hi jones just a fyi… yesterday I posted my community showcase comment before 11 pst, but I think it did not stick, because I went to check on it just after 11 and it was not there… 17 minutes later I got it to finally stick … anyway I hope you can still put in the showcase today, thanks.

Heya Jones, No, I hadn't heard. I wonder what's going to happen to the truck, then. But if Easy Allies were to travel across the ocean to make a new life for themselves, would they want to become a lady's maid, a governess, a sewing girl, an engineer, a millionaire, or a constable?

Asbo Zappruder

Hey Jones, A few months back during Brad's Community Showcase I asked whether virtual meetings via Zoom or Skype would be possible so that patrons can meet and converse with The Allies. Is there any possibility of this happening down the line?

James Davie

Hey Jones sorry if this is the wrong place to ask first time asking a question. My question was if you all plan to ever add annual pricing to the Patreon I know personally I am more open to spending a little more on a annual membership then a monthly one for whatever reason. Either way I love the Allies and all your content I work nights so I usually listen to everything at work or vods at home. Love and respect!!!

Heurou

Hey Jones, Any recommendations for mobile games? (Aside from Star Wars and Marvel). Based on what I've heard, we may like similar stuff, e.g. tower defense and auto battlers.

Badalight

Brandon, if you are on camping vay-cay for a month in a cabin somewhere... what is the temperature, scenery, and weather like? What is Jonesy eating? SHAODAUW to Asbo Zaprudder for catching my comment in the audio post.

Hey Jones I feel kind of bad for bringing another GOTY question this week after it feels like last week was the week to do it but as I was listening to everybody’s comments and critiques and thoughts on the format I had another thought of my own. It involves how you guys have the deliberations live streaming before your personal pics group stream on Tuesday. Now I love watching the deliberations but like we all know they are very long and and even more than the deliberations I love seeing the personal pics group stream and I love being there live interacting with you guys and chat but the problem with that is of course Goty deliberations are probably going to come up during the live stream and not wanting to be spoiled on what the game of the year was I chose not to watch the personal pics live stream so I was just wondering why you guys have the deliberations go out on the same day? I’m not sure maybe in the future you could maybe drop the deliberations live stream video a day or two before to give a chance for everyone to watch all of it and not worry about being spoiled. I don’t know just a thought I had and also wanted to give a special shout out Amanda Troop! I was watching her Instagram stories last week and I saw she was painting the walls for her audition backdrops and they looks great tell her I like the lighter colors better Jones L&R.

Hello Brandon. It’s ok to talk about the best trailers of 2021 in February, or whenever you’ll have time to do so. Your trailer analysis is always welcome.

Alexander Zyryanov

It only shows the latest tweet. All I'd have to do is tweet out one more thing after the awards, if I remember as much. No sense trying to get the developer to disable and re-enable features. -Bloodworth

Easy Allies

EDIT: Mr. Bloodworth succinctly answered my question this week, so please feel free to skip my submission this week. I'll post a question about Mysterious Monsters next week (if nothing pops up over the next week that supercedes it.) Have a great day! Hey Mr. Jones! Well, my fear came true. As I went through the website to get to the Forums, the Latest Tweet function on the website spoiled the GOTY for me as I was still trying to chip away through the deliberations for a natural reaction, and that was taken away. I know both yourself and Mr. Bloodworth answered a question last week about how to handle the tweets themselves, but I’m asking specifically about the website. I finished all the content over the following weekend, but to say I was bummed I knew what was to come for the big one is an understatement. So, I wanted to ask: Is there a way to disable the function on the site for like, a week during GOTY season? In no way am I asking to not tweet your winners, or celebrate your Awards or the games as you see fit, but speaking as someone who couldn’t get into more than an hour at a time during lunch breaks at work, it was a bummer I couldn’t quite make it without spoilers. I know the website isn’t really much of focus for EZA, and I’m sure it’s also annoying to mess with the site for just a single thing for a short span of time, but if there’s any way to help mitigate spoilers for next year and the years after, all I can do is ask. Thanks for reading as always and have a wonderful rest of your day! Cheers! P.S. Yes, it was me you remembered correctly during deliberations that decried Back 4 Blood not having accessible Single Player until December. Still would’ve loved to see it get a nomination though for Best Co-op and Best Seven, but that’s just me 😉 QUESTION: Is there a way to disable the Latest Tweet function on the site for like, a week during GOTY season? I ask because while staying off Twitter to avoid being spoiled, trying to get to the Forums via the website spoiled the GOTY LONG before I could dedicate time to get through the deliberations. I know both yourself and Mr. Bloodworth answered this question regarding the tweets themselves last week, but I’m asking about ONLY the website’s function. I’m not asking to not tweet or celebrate your winners and the games, but I hope there’s some way to cut down on spoilers for GOTY seasons to come.

Hi Jones, I made a comment last week and apparently Patreon ate it. It was piggybacking on the comment about the GOTY and how everyone was championing a different game. My suggestion was on topic but might not apply now that you have all moved on an the Feb 4th meeting will have come and gone by the time you read this on the air. Just wanted to apologize for pouting and thinking you blew past my question uncaringly...i mean you never actually said you loved me in the "feel-good I love Chat" episode so i figured you didn't care. Turns out it was Patreon all along. <3

Now that all the GOTY stuff is out of the way, I need to ask... When can we expect you to stream Mass Effect 2? The first stream was so good, and I can't wait for you to play the sequel. Still one of the best Western RPG ever made, IMO.
