Community Showcase Update
Added 2024-01-10 17:54:13 +0000 UTCGoing forward, Community Showcase will take place during an hour slot following one of our group streams. This means instead of 2 Allies for each showcase, you'll now have the entire group. This month, the Community Showcase will take place after the group stream on January 30th. Another important change is that the maximum word count for submissions has been reduced from 500 to 250.

SHOWCASE GUIDELINES
No submissions will be accepted past January 30 at 7:00 AM PT.
While you retain all rights to your content, by submitting here you’re giving Easy Allies the right to show the content in our monthly Community Showcase live stream. You may submit a text entry, an image, or an audio/video file. Only one entry per month.
If you’re posting a video, photograph, or drawing, keep your description limited to a description of the work. Leaving a piece of art, or a video, in addition to a long description is a bit disrespectful of people who only submit text entries. If you’re posting a lot of images, we will only show a maximum of 9, of our choosing unless you specify otherwise.
Any text to be read should be 250 words or less. Any video or piece of music should be 3 minutes or less. If the entry is longer, we will edit it down to a manageable length. We reserve the right to remove any content we find offensive.

I have a ttrpg I just published, but I wanted to check if this was a venue for it before I submitted, since it's a commercial product (I was just going to post an image of the game with a description of what it is and how Allies have supported me during development).

2024-01-22 04:56:51 +0000 UTCYeah, if you look at the past Community Showcases, image and music submissions are often get praised by Allies, while text rarely gets that honor (maybe it’s personal tastes, maybe it’s objective quality of submissions – doesn’t really matter). So, this feels like a decision to cut away portion that is perceived as less interesting to get to the “good stuff” quicker. Which feels bad for those whose talents are on the writing side. I’m doing another Apex Legends character submission this month and 250 words is not nearly enough to introduce both her story and her abilities. I’ve asked if I can buy another 250 words by simply raising my pledge by $10 or if I’ll need to create another $10 account for that purpose – haven’t received a response yet. I know that throwing money at a problem is not a viable option for everyone, so it would be great if the limit will go up to at least 400 words (which is what you can comfortably read in a 3-minute video). By the way, you can try to put extra text on images (one image per game from your GotY list). Of course, there’s no guarantee that it will be read and not just shown briefly, but it’s probably better than nothing.

2024-01-11 08:23:21 +0000 UTCPersonally, because it's quite difficult for me to contain myself on topics, the word count cut is a killer. For context, this months submission was my GOTY list for 2023, and even then I only have a couple sentences for most entries since 500 is respectable. Going down to 250 doesn't feel like enough to showcase a topic to be honest. I understand the change, as tacking on an additional 90-120 minutes to a two hour stream is not a reasonable ask, plus the promise of all available Allies for every showcase is appreciated. But this kind of stipulation is enough for me to no longer participate. I will reiterate my central thesis from my comment on the announcement post: continuous cutbacks, while understandable, is detrimental. I get the need for focus, but there is such a thing as cutting too much. Coupled with Twitch being a consistently terrible platform for me and thus I have no incentive to ever watch any content live any more, outside of sheer support, I don't feel like there's anymore value besides doing just that (and to be clear, I will continue to, but for the first time, I'm left with a feeling of wondering just how much longer I can.).
