BOOK 2/54 - MILESTONE

HILDELITH'S POV

Bali's wide-eyed expression would now forever remain emblazoned on his face. I stared at the flabbergasted look in his dead eyes as I stomped down. The wind rushed and air howled as my feet descended. The Devil was just too shocked to even move and even when he tried I was ready. Stones had crawled up his foot an inch from his skin and let him sink just a bit into the earth. With my gigantic form looming over him he barely noticed the difference.

BOOOM!!!!

At the last minute he lashed out at the heels of my feet but against Aether you needed Primordial Chaos or nothingness to battle. It made me wonder how exactly he even slew the Creator Gods he claimed.

The cavern shuddered. Cracks split through the floor, stones and rocks fell from the roof and everywhere shivered like a living creature taking a wound. I turned sharply and raised an arm across the room covering a wide eyed Tora. Yes I had completely forgotten had in the fight. Not my fault.

Notifications blared in my mind which I ignored to check on my enemy. Dead. "I won". My Titan voice reverberated like an attack. Removing my leg I stared at the remains on the floor. With a thought Titan Form dissipated and I dropped to the ground from the middle of the returning aether. I hit the ground with a boom and waved the dust away with a sharp gust of wind.

The spot I had killed him was a now a crater. Within lay the mashed up corpse of my foe.

'His remains could be useful'. Akasha chimed in my head. I nodded, my golden locks shifting with the exertion. "It will". My eyes followed the trail of black ichor to the position where It had land. The pressure must have popped the head free when i stomped.

'You finally went all out'.

"I did".

I shivered as I remembered the look of pure malice he had when he realized I had fooled him big time. I sat lotus style while I reviewed everything once more.

From the moment I had baited him into taking to the air. Showing him what I could do with the earth made him try going aerial in his battles. An advantage for me because I realized his prowess with the Beyonder perk was limited to the ground.

While fast in the air he was not scarily fast as he was on the ground. With him already thinking I was too scared or bad with using my wings he was left with the assumption and belief that he superseded in that avenue as well.

If not he wouldn't have clashed straight forward as he did.

The racial mixture had aided me in increasing my battle power and the sharp blast from my feet with Eternal Flames had helped my wings redirect my trajectory and boost my inertia.

The next events had been purely a last-minute spur to capitalize on the advantage I had taken. Not really an advantage though. With him realizing I wasn't necessarily weak I had to go al out. Fortunately, in battle ideas came. Especially when your life depended on it.

The idea for Titan Form came from Form of Nothingness. After all of one had it why not the other. The creatures of the realms were proof that every element could have a form.

It had been either Aether or Primordial Chaos really. My children were proof that beings could traverse the nothingness, meaning the devil could very well survive it. That left Primordial Chaos and Aether. The first was too dangerous to use with Tora there. Something could happen and knowing how destructive that energy was I picked Aether.

Ally musings and choice didn't mean Aether was weak. If anything it was the most dangerous. When you brought the power of creation and gave it a task it did it without errors. Aether actually had more chances of destroying everything here to accomplish my order than chaos did.

'Fortunately you only stomped' Akasha commended me.

I shivered at the memory of power Titan Form brought.

Just like in the battle with the elf I stayed for a good while resting my still racing mind and heart still not believing I didn't get respawned. Tora stopped next to me and I could see the shock and awe in her eyes as she looked at me then to the corpse.

I stood and walked away from his corpse. First I went around from one deviling's corpse to the other looting. Each deviling gained me an ugly black core the system registered as Netherite. By the time I was done scavenging, I had earned myself 74 of them. Tora didn't need them or did she?.

Back to the dead devil I looted another piece of Netherite ore. This one much bigger than the others. The deviling Netherite was big enough to let my thumb and forefinger meet around it. Bali's core was the size of a fist. I stored his corpse much to the displeasure of Tora who evidently had tests to run on him.

Taking a bit of blood from the Devil I let her have it. That settled her.

Across the pond, a flight of stairs left the ground to the top of a platform. I moved up the crude stone stairs made with no artistry to them. On the platform was a familiar pillar behind a stone throne where I suspected Bali had been seated whilst Tora fought the devilings and I watched.

On top of the pillar which came to my waist sat the checkpoint orb. Releasing a sigh of relief I decided to access my gains before heading to the next lair.

Seated on the Devil's throne I made for an impressive sight. Spotting that the angle from here should be good enough I made the bird take the full view of me atop the throne and then making sure it covered the area with a bit of a pause on the crater where Bali's blood still staiend before I brought the bird back to me.

"So much for the Devil" I commented with the bird flapping in front of me then ended the stream.

I pulled up my notifications and scrolled through them.

"I didn't get to level up my Aura. Probably a good thing though since I doubt I would have managed to kill him if he had increased his aura even more than what he had used. " I shook my head before continuing. I was at level twenty now.

It was always strange how I didn't feel level-ups. No refreshing or healing of wounds. It was aggravating. Well, I did have divine purity.

It was fortunate that Bali had struck less than normal. If not I was certain of losing y armor and getting more injured than I could heal.

The next thing I noted was the 20 to my perception. I was certain it had been a ten before. Even more confusing was Eyes of the Unseen with an additional plus sign next to it.

I sighed before quickly looking over my insights. Frowned at the two with no visible improvements and smiled at the rest.

'In due time'.

Next was the mission rewards.

Pain lanced through my skull like a red hot nail driving through wood. Then like liquid magma it flowed through my brain. I shook on the Throne as the pain went beyond what I felt was the norm here. My awareness was suddenly pulled deep into a familiar cavern. A long thread of silver that led me to where I'd come before. The Dome Rune of the Eternal Flame was still visible. It shone brighter than the Rune for the Devil's Fire I was seeing. Yet fire was fire. What a single flame couldn't illuminate, two could.

The presence of the Silver Rune ignored light through the cavern and I noticed more runes appearing. Threads connected to them lit up and several hues of fire raced to the top.y awareness was dragged along.

I returned to the beautiful sight of colorful flames and notifications.

I focused on one flame I was familiar with. A golden petal of fire that felt warm, pure and holy. I drew it to me and let it flicker across my skin. Then I made it roar higher and brighter, separate from the rest.

Suddenly I remembered Tora. "Oh my...". A quick glance around with both my eyes and Akasha and I found the best floating above me and looking down. Not at me but at the colorful flames. In her right palm she tweedled with several similar colorful fires. I could see K
Akasha floating around her fingers , fueling each flame. The fires were near but not completely similar to mine.

"I guess you're fine then". She looked at me for a split second, nodded and returned her attention to the fire. I sighed. Returning my focus to the flames I smiled. The fire was beautiful. I would have to see what each flame could do exactly but for now I was more interested in the Devil's boon.

Hopefully, it would be more useful the stronger I got. "First. Let's get out of here". I waved a palm and the ring of fire dissipated.

I rose from the throne, and walked over to the pillar with the checkpoint orb. "Time to go Tora". My will grazed it activating the prompt.

[CHECKPOINT]
[Proceed to Next floor]
[Leave dungeon]

I selected to leave. I'd had just enough excitement to satisfy me. I'd been bored and the game threw me a God Slayer to brighten my day. The thought made me shiver. Casting a sharp glance to the crater my Titan Form had created I shivered again.

I appeared at the edge of the second ring facing the gates. Next to me Tora materialized as well. That had been a close call. A very close call. With Tora there, anything might have happened. If Bali had not been such a Prideful fella then I didn't doubt him using Tora for an advantage.

Sighing I turned to the still silent Unmduni.

"So...how was it?. Fun right?". Her head merely nodded.

"Are you okay?". She turned to me and her green eyes which were abnormally wide shrunk back to normal..

"Yes. I... I'm just going to test out somethings". She vanished space bending around her. Atleast she was fine.

I turned to the notification waiting for me.

Unknown Location
Unknown Universe

A roar reverberated through the shadowy mist realm. Shockwaves spread about reducing everything to ash as the force of the roar damaged the area.

The mist that had cleared flowed back trying to conceal the large Dracula-looking tower from which the roar escaped.

Various forms scurried about after the loud cry of the voice. Most of them hid while only a few hurried to the source of the outcry.

The door to a room was flung open by a Deviless. Her red skin was exposed for all to see, mammary glands swaying with her rush. Clothes were obviously not a thing she understood. Others equally half clothed or not clothed at all strode into the room.

The Deviless hurried over to a bed where a Devil lay. If Helen were here she would see it as the same Devil whom she just slew in the Harbinger lair.

The Deviless snarled as she noted the blood seeping from the devil's chest. The screaming devil had his four eyes open and muttering a name over and over.

As the deviless and the several devils and other species that looked nothing like devils scurried around to treat the injury, a mad smile stretched on the being's cheeks.

"Bali. Who did this? How? Say so I may..."

A look from the devil had the Deviless shutting up.

Bali went back to muttering the name over and over again. A hint of madness was evident in his gaze.

"Template".

Bali was aggrieved with using this means. But it was either get used to it or grow weak. Something he refused to do.

Strength was needed to rectify the mistakes of millennials passed. Now strength would be needed to slay a certain female. As such he knew he had to still swallow his distaste. Besides this was the only good way to get a proper explanation of what exactly happened. He knew, but not all of it.

His eyes twinkled as the battle log appeared.

[True Damage sustained]

[Status Effect - Soul Crack]

Bali chuckled. Raged blinded his vision and he felt slighted, yet he was pleased. Pleased that dhe was strong.

"Hahahahahahaha!"

Bali devolved into a mad laugh, black blood seeping from his wounds even more.

"Stay still Bali " the Deviless urged glaring at her older brother.

"Hildelith" he whispered as he chuckled. His eyes shut letting the Devils treat the wound that should have healed on its own had it not been from Creation itself.

Bali's mind went to a dreamscape where he battled to his heart-made content. Each of the fights with the same golden-haired trickster of a goddess.

Bali was unbothered. The void was smaller than one would think. Sooner or later he would find his new conquest. Hildelith would fall by his hand and only then would he truly be a God Killer. Just like his father. Just like Ozdane the Sixth.

*****

[You have entered Realm of the Winter Deviless]

I hissed as cold assaulted my skin, traveled within my body, and chilled my lungs. It was funny how foreign realms could affect me with temperature but not mine. "Even then this is a tad bit too much. I shouldn't be feeling so cold".

The cold was biting but gave no frostbite to me at least. That's a win I'd take. I exhaled mist as I looked around frowning. In all directions as far as I could see stretched an infinite expanse of white and blue ice.

Above was the sky, a beautiful mixture of colors that would make an Aurora Borealis jealous. I was stuck in an ice desert this time. Ice hills and mountains far to the distance. A single red moon that contrasted the climate hung in the sky.

Hugging the cloak of the one tighter to myself I fought off the cold before quickly bringing up my notifications to go through it.

I was having a brain freeze which sent a numbing pain through my head had nothing to do with the present cold.

'Milestone. Level 20. Existential Core. My head was shaking.

Alright, I just need information on what this is and what I need to do here. I looked around.

"Level 20 is a milestone. I complete a challenge to earn an existential core, whatever that is." I blew a puff of air out.

"Alright, I can work with this. I just need to know the rules of this challenge. If anything goes and what doesn't. Or atleast what I'm meant to do". I looked around again.

The system was quick to respond this time. Something I loved about it was this, its ability to respond to queries as long as the answers were something it could give. Fortunately, it was.

[Choose an Insight]

"Okay. Not what was I expecting".

A mental list of my insights blinked into view. From first to last just like it appeared in my template.

If I had to choose an Insight I wondered which it would be. A frown crossed my face. 'How to select? ' What was I picking for?. I didn't know.

"Going on assuming it ks for use. Will it be the most powerful or the most useful?".

Mentally I had the system rearrange the list starting from the most powerful, both in comprehension and mastery speed.

[Divine Purity - (+ 43%)
Earthen Grace - (+ 35%) + (+ 6% sp)
Earthen Forge - (+29%)(+ 7% sp)
DOME RUNE - Eternal Flames (+20%) - (Devil [Silver]fire + 15%+ (+6% sp)) (Divine [Gold]fire +10% +15%) (Ira [Red] fire +5%) (Pious [Blue] fire +5%) (Pernicious[Green] fire +5%) (Chaos[Purple] fire +5%) (Baleful[Black] fire +5%) (Lacuna[Violet] fire +5%) (∆•¶°• fire +5%) (Frost fire +5%) (Order [White] fire +5%]
DOME RUNE - Source Eternal (+10%)- (Mellifleunt +10% +5%) (Immortal Frost +5% +10%) ( Unbound Mists +5%)
DOME RUNE - Matron's Primordial Blight - (+5%)
DOME RUNE - Dimensional Weaving - (+5%)
DOME RUNE - Cradle of Life - (+5% +10%)
DOME RUNE - Chronal Rips - (+5%)]

I wasn't any bit closer to knowing which insight to choose. Plus would picking one lead to the others getting locked in this challenge?

A look around had me thinking of choosing Embers of the flame to keep the cold at bay.

"No, don't choose for comfort" I hissed. While fire would be effective here not just for heat but because fire was the opposing element to this lair.

While fire was strong but there had been various movies, animes, and games where ice trumps fire. Plus mine was legit weak now and who knew what the netizens of this realm could conjure.

A beginner fire bender against a master or amateur ice bender in their territory. Not wise.

Which left either Earthen Grace or Divine Purity. I wasn't even lumping Source Eternal since I was just barely comprehending it and using an ability I shared with my enemy when it used it better was just stupid. Sure it was ice but who knew if he could control their waters too.

Earthen grace was seemingly no-no. One look around showed no earth or rock in sight for leagues.

Leaving that insight useless.

"Why can't I create earth just like I do with the others though?" shaking my head I just went to the one insight that was left.

[Divine Purity]
Divinity is pure, holy, and bright a true counter in some ways to the Primordial Chaos an energy having no match. Its effects are the complete opposite of the dark miasma of the Void.

This was not a battle insight. How was it supposed to aid me?

I had stalled in comprehending this insight even more since I started getting the other insights. Only been using it to heal injuries. The only times I had gotten comprehension upgrades were in the tower and a dungeon when I tried buffing my unknowns and myself a bit.

"This was what the devs expected. Swamping us with so many things that simply playing a game became harder and therefore left us weaker. Yet everything we do is part of the game and still interesting" I exhaled in exhaustion.

[Divine Purity Selected]
[Unselected Insights Locked]

I felt it. An immense suffocating weight pressed down on my chest. I gasped clutching at my armor as I tried to pry the thick material off like it was the cause of the suppression.

I sunk to my knees gasping hard as my breaths came in short.

"That's harsh"It was now I was realizing how much the insights had been affecting my body. Shutting my body I tried delving into my soul space. A sharp headache kicked me out of the place.

"No soul diving apparently " I groaned as my head pounded.

[CHALLENGE COMMENCED]
[PREP YOURSELF]

A shockwave spread out from my position in all directions. Like an echo, it spread once, twice, and thrice.

Did the game just give out my location to this realm's dwellers?'

Standing there with a huge buffet bell ringing over my head was not a good idea. Turning I scanned my position. I found a high cliff with a pointed tip. The best position to make a stand.

The dwellers of the icy tundra seemed to not support my getting there though. Cracks began running along the ice as I watched.

To my left heads smashed through the thick white field, some too weak and stopping while others shattered through the frozen ground. Claws attached to grotesque arms shot out digging into the ice.

"Time to move girl". Quickly I stumbled past the cracking ice while enduring the heaviness of my chest.

I watched as the creatures fiercely bashed and clawed at the ice to get free and get to me.

I walked and stopped groaning from the weight in my chest. I had to hurry though because the ice cracking got louder and more frenzied.

A little way out and the sound of ice shattering reached my ears. 'Shit!". Turning I spotted one of the things. Its skin was white in the blue atmosphere, tentacles growing from its spine. I sucked in a breath at the soulless green gaze like firefly lights locked in its eyes. I watched as one by one they pulled themselves up and free itching to get to me. Water dripping off their scales or was it fur and freezing the moment it dropped off, creating little ice crystals that hit the ground.

It screamed like a human its maw separating all the way to its sides where the ears should have been. The gaping maw revealed long fangs that would be the envy of dragons.

"Crappy realms and malevolent creatures. I'm loving this game..." I sassed. Turning I ignored the weight in my chest and willed a racial change."When was the last time I complained like this?". Lowkey I missed this. Fighting for my life. Well, the in-game life.

My skin rippled, wings darting out, feathers stretched out of my skin. A stomp that cracked the ice beneath me sent me soaring as my wings flapped taking me to safety.

I was too slow.

The lash of whips through the air was a testament to it. The freezing tentacle wrapped around my ankle pulling me back. I almost panicked, scratch that, I panicked. With the pressure in my chest and the chill on my leg, I could barely focus.

My back struck the ice hard. The sound of bone crunching filled the ear before the pain came. My back arched as the pain flooded my brain and my lips parted to let loose the wail within me.

Second wing break in a day. Ozai's kids must have it tough.

'Divine Purity' was an automatic stimuli response to pain I had grown in the game. I shivered as warmth flooded my body, and my will fought to focus and spread the divine energy through my wings.

A snarl had my tightly screwed eyes snapping open. To my left and right chasing after my pulled body were two of the things. Unlike the first though both spotted only one tentacle or none at all.

I snarled. Pain brings anger. The kind of anger you get from stubbing a toe. I saw things as nuisances. On a normal day without my locked insights and the feeling of suppression taking my focus, I was pretty certain I could take down these things without a scratch. My reaction and rage were swift.

The first sent a tentacle to grasp and pull me back to it. The frozen limb entered my grasp as I caught it and let it wrap around my right elbow. The creature was quick to tug me towards it.

My wings were almost healed at this point. Pushing the divinity I split it up and made some flow to my legs, bracing my heels on the ice.

The ground cracked and traction slowed me down while also giving me a foothold to work with. The last painful snap of bone setting announced my fixed wings and I pushed my weight up.

Simultaneously I tugged harshly on the tentacle. A hiss of pain accompanied a whine as the thing flew to me.

Divine purity flooded my left arm, golden veins streaking up to my fist which lit up like a fluorescent bulb. The eyes of the thing widened as its head met my left fist.

Skull exploded raining light blue cold blood on my face.

Daemon Fist to the rescue.

The scene interestingly had the others reevaluating my danger rating as they paused to access me. Intelligent creatures.

I didn't mind though, it would be better since they feel pain more with a sentient mind. My wings sank back into my back.

I wouldn't be needing it.

My fist tightened as I grasped the tentacles still wrapped around my ankle leisurely. Instead of tugging though I did something different.

I flooded it with divine energy. It was at the end of the day while not a Devil, still a nether being. And if divines could be corrupted then why couldn't the netherlings be purified.

Its wails answered my question.

"Alright. No running." I watched as the creature sizzled from the inside out and melted into nothing but water.

"Okay, so the result is not a holy creature but a dead creature. Right". I nodded in glee. I watched the beasts all prowl around me watching as more surfaced. There were those racing from far to join the party. As I watched I contemplated. With the other insights locked, I was weak. Well not physically, but punching wouldn't keep me alive here. Voidbringer

'But divine purity helps to use divinity in healing and buffing. The buffing is done by flooding my cells with divinity.'

"Let's try this out." I shut my eyes willing the divinity to flood my organs. Every inch of my body, down to even the last microscopic cell.

The beasts around were unsure of how to proceed even as more broke out of the ice. To the far distance, more and more netherlings of different species and races ran over to the position I stood at.

My body felt hot, not fire hot but energy hot. My golden hair swelled with divine light. Veins of golden light stretched over my skin as I pumped in more and more energy into myself.

My cells filled with energy and held. My skin, organs, and bones were filled with energy and strengthened exponentially. I continued flooding myself with more of the divinity as I pondered what I could do with an excessive amount. In most games buffs were limited due to the host being unable to bear the energy of light.

Here, I was the goddess. What would be different?

There was so much energy that I turned into a bright golden star in the center of a blue frozen realm surrounded by monsters of winter.

Each of my eyes was a golden star that surprisingly outshone my body making the creatures all shiver and step back cautiously. My aura spread subconsciously staggering and suppressing everything within range.

Notifications rang in my head even as I found myself floating off the ground. Something I could only do in my universe.

My expression was cold, and my eyes burned with the teeming golden light. My body hovering a foot of the now melted ice. The water beneath sizzled with heat as it boiled from my divine energy. I stopped pumping the energy into my cells and instead let it flow up straight to my eyes.

'Were trying this with me after all this'. Akasha suddenly chimed in.

'Sure'.

'Oh, I'm doing this?' I powered it heatedly.

The veins that streaked around my face were inconspicuous due to how bright I glowed.

"Wonder if it works'. I was seeing nothing but light, luckily Akasha had already started spreading out so I had another sense.

The veins thickened as they reached the sides of my skull, each wrapping around in different avenues to run past my face and into my eyes.

My already bright eyes dimmed like a distant star losing light.

The space between my eyes froze and shuddered.

The Winter creatures roared in defiance as the felt danger.

My aura lessened then tapered off releasing them from their oppression. The horde of winter monsters didn't delay, seizing the opportunity every one of them charged at me their drools leaking from their maw, the hunger burning in their eye sockets hiding their fear.

My head was in the clouds. My mind was hazy. All I knew was energy and all I saw were blurred images beyond a red film. Luckily I could see the other way.

The frozen ground was cracked from the stampede of forces. At the center, I hovered, against a storm of bloodthirsty winter fiends.

A command rippled through the wind, my lips barely moving.

"DIE". The command rolled with aether and if what I wanted to do wasn't meant to work, it surely did when I introduced aether into the fold. Maybe the command would have just smote the creatures but luckily it followed my Intent and weaved into my eyes.

Two beams of compressed yellow divinity shot out of my eyes and blasted through the hordes.
