WIP Wednesday

As usual, I get my visual references from looking at photo references. It's easier and easier for me to find things, I just hit up Google Images for things like "irritated woman at desk" and I find what I need.
All I really need nowadays is any basic picture; I just need the expression and body proportions right. When I first started, for example, I specifically needed to look up things like "Asian woman at desk" for Juni, or "man with male pattern baldness wearing glasses" for Ken Specter. I've gotten much better at just taking basic features and extrapolating my characters faces onto them.
It's all part of that "practice, practice, practice' thing I wrote about last week. Just keep at it, keep trying, sooner or later things will fall into place. And since my daily products are what I am using to practice with, I may as well make it worth the effort.
Really an artist just needs to be able to look back and see that things are getting better, or at least holding steady, and not backsliding. My art tends to reach "plateaus", and I stay there for a long time, getting comfortable... then I try to reach the next level. Sometimes the progress to that next level is quick, sometimes it is incremental.
But really, there is no such thing as bad progress. The only bad progress is th eprogress that isn't there at all.
Keep going to that next best thing!
