Development Log: August 28 2024

First off, I noticed there are a lot of new Patrons! Hello! I'm so happy you're here. :D

I mentioned in an older post that I'll be slowly converting this Patreon into a general Double Dead Studios productions Patreon, because I've really hit my groove with Visual Novels and game development in general.

This does not mean that I will be working less on Reanimated Heart. Reanimated Heart will continue on its schedule of two-three big updates a year (maybe more if I'm feeling spicy), but other games will be made on the side. If anything, the additional capital from the other games will allow me to upgrade Reanimated Heart. If you've been following for a while, you'd know that the last update had a major asset update with new screens, new journal entries, new backgrounds, etc.

Honestly, if I'm sacrificing anything, it's my social life and free time, LOL. But I'm happy to do this, because making video games makes me happier than anything.

Anyway, after I dropped a big content update on Reanimated Heart on June, I took a break from working on it on July (I like taking a month's break after big drops to mentally refresh) and dropped Another Rose in His Garden. This month (August), I'm back on it, as well as another game I'm working on, Pygmalion's Folly!

So, what have I accomplished since then?

Reanimated Heart

- Like usual, I prefer to do big content updates for RH, usually 3 in-game days.

The writing progress so far:

Day 13

       Delivery Job - 100% done

       Magic Job - 20% done

       Bar Job - 100% done

Day 14 - 100% done

Day 15 - 20% done

(Current word count: 10,000+. My goal is to finish it this month and get it edited next month, but if I don't, then it'll probably happen mid-month.)

- I got new voice lines for Black, Crux, and Vincenzo that will be implemented next update. (Thank you to Zoya, Maz, and Lality for the donations to make this happen! I will post some meme VA shenanigans later/tomorrow.)

- 1 new sprite (William Linton)

- For social media, I prettied up the Tumblr. Fae, our discord mod, created a Tiktok. I'm still in the process of updating the FAQ! I also created an AO3 account for public, supplementary writing, as people have informed me that tumblr refuses to work when not logged in. Nothing there yet, but I'll get to that soon! (Thank you to Maz for the invite.)

- Exodus is working on some code to add new code into the game, as well as make it run smoother. Things he's working on: a new Character Creator screen, being able to visit Missy's shop during free roam, a CG Gallery, the MC's icon on the bottom left (next to dialogue box), a journal entry you can write things on, saves where you can add commentary on them, etc.

- I commissioned Tay for a background in a future update.

- Mell is slowly adding journal entries for the new update as well, though they are currently preoccupied with moving.

ESTIMATED UPDATE DROP: NOVEMBER (If I'm lucky, September. If I'm unlucky, December.)

Pygmalion's Folly

To those not in the know, I am basically making a BTD-inspired murdersim with one of my favorite OCs, Florentin Blanchett. He's a necromancer serial killer that gathers up living bodies for his experiments, and the MC (a detective) has been hot on his trailer after Florentin has kidnapped their sister. The game is inspired by works like Frankenstein and Herbest West: The Re-Animator, with a nostalgic slasher/horror aesthetic!

It will have 20,000+ words of script and 30 endings. It will have a FREE and PAID version for $5, but the free version will already be the full-game. The paid version will just feature detailed sex scenes, a Streamer mode (censor toggle), a Death and CG gallery, 30+ CGs, and a secret ending when everything has been completed. Ofc, it'll be available to $5 and up patrons on the month of release!

Now, onto all the stuff I've finished for Pygmalion's Folly...

- 20,000+ words worth of script (currently being edited by Clovis)

- Game and Main menu UI

- 30+ Cgs (including screens)

- FOUR drawn backgrounds

- 4 sprites with many variations of Florentin himself

- New code, including a draggable creator screen, point and click rooms, and timer elements

- 1 new original song from Claira

- Several drawn items

Ideally, I'll be done with this by September, and drop it in public as a Halloween special while I work on RH.

ESTIMATED UPDATE DROP: OCTOBER 21

...so that's it! I'm just updating you guys just in case you're wondering if I fell off the face of the earth. I am still very much hard at work, I'm just very bad at doing dev logs.
