Also a month is fine. A year long stay is too difficult to write and not much work to be gained - just do a month where he learns some esoteric magic that will aid him against Tom - maybe some other ritual magic or soul magic - something that isn't normally covered in cannon - also hope Harry's keeps the fact that he's a time traveler to himself.
