Hereโs a WIP that Iโve been working on! ๐ค There are still a few more details and colors Iโm wanting to add, but Iโm taking a step away from it for now so that I can refresh my brain and come back to it with a different perspective. Sometimes Iโll stare at a drawing for too long and lose a bit of my creative drive, so taking breaks helps me regain focus and think of new ideas whenever I get back to it haha ๐
This drawing was actually a struggle initially because I started drawing without any plans at all โ which I never do! I always like to have a plan before I start something, but with this one I tried letting the drawing take shape by itself as I worked on it. Iโll be posting a process video of this piece for all Big-Hearted Butterflies ($5+) and above so you can see how crazy and disorganized the process was! ๐โจ
Do you like to have a structured plan before you start a drawing or do you like to wing it? Itโs so hard for me to draw unless I have a structured concept first!

Itโs really hard for me to work on the fly like that so itโs super cool youโre able to do it and create some of your best work that way ๐ I like to plan about halfway through a drawing and then let it take shape the rest of the way, but I know some artists who plan every single detail and Iโm amazed ๐ฑ

Everyone works differently and honestly itโs really fun to start drawing without any initial ideas ๐ค Normally my process involves browsing Pinterest for color palette inspiration, which I normally find in plants or pictures of the sky. Once Iโve got a good color palette idea I try to find a reference pose that inspires me and loosely base my character drawing off of that, and then from there I see where it takes me! ๐

2020-01-25 12:30:05 +0000 UTCIt looks great and I love the leaves (it's so nice to see the green-and-red leaf colour scheme, it doesn't get enough love) - I am sure it will be even better when it's finished! I didn't used to plan my drawings AT ALL and on the odd occasion I still find that if I'm in the right mood I can do some of my best work on the fly, but recently I am trying to plan more. I don't think it's necessary to plan, but for me I think it saves on the amount of drawings I trash halfway through! Have a lovely weekend <3 @shindo3art
