This week I want to talk about Cosplay because really....that’s all I’ve had time to do this week other than, you know, life stuff and work stuff.
As a lot of you know I’ve been talking about doing Hawkman for a long time and in the past few months I’ve been showing off a little glimpses of it here in there while slowly working on it. As with most things during the quarantinethese things got really fucked up and plans got shifted. That said I’m happy to say that Hawkman is finally finished. While that would normally be a cause for celebration, it honestly doesn’t deserve to be rewarded because this should not have taken me this long.
Hawkman was a costume I wanted to do for a long time but I always struggled with it because I hated the idea of using feathers. Feathers are almost always unethically sourced so I just decided to avoid the project for a long time. I really didn’t think you could do it justice woth out real feather. Eventually local cosplayer who had previously done Hawkman was selling his costume (which had feather) and I decided it would be a better decision to buy it off him rather than going out and supporting the feather industry.
It felt like a win-win because I finally got the chance to do a character that I’ve always wanted to do plus I got to support a local cosplayer and help them create new costumes!
I was excited at first but this excitement quickly faded because I had so many projects already on the go. The costume end up staying in my storage unit for months on end until eventually my storage unit got so far I needed to bring the costume up to my room. It’s sad, but that was actually the catalyst that made me finally start to work on this costume.
at first I didn’t think there would be much work involved in the costume, but boy oh boy was I wrong. because the other cosplayer and I are different sizes essentially had to change the entire costume. And I know I’m not the best Cozz player in the world, but the vast majority of the costume was not up to my standards. I had to reinforce everything rebuild most parts sand, prime and repaint everything. I genuinely believe it may have been less work if I just started from scratch, but hey I’m a little bitch about those feathers. Anyway.
The wings are the hardest part as they were falling apart and… God I sound like such an asshole… They were just really ugly. this whole project took a lot more effort and energy than I was thinking and the sad part is I’m not sure it really ended up being that different. But let me tell you one thing I’m sure of this costume looks fucking amazing and I can’t wait to show it off to all of you guys. I know you’re gonna love it.
