This Wednesday we’re taking another trip into the world comic books! And you know I’m serious about this cause I didn’t even include a picture of myself!
Like I’ve said before, I live this weird life where I’m continually surrounded by Geeky things. So much so that even my job is geeky. Sadly the irony of all this is that because I never actually have time to do Geekythings. I’m too busy making costumes from x-men to actually read X-men. That’s why I love this Wednesday thing.
Having this weekly time to talk about something Geeky in my life has been incredible because not only do I get to share this part of my life with all of you, but I’m actually forced to do some thinking every week. I was struggling with what this Wednesday would be because I’ve been pretty busy but I finally settled on something that is very outside of my comfort zone.
Current comics. Ohhhhh spooky!
The problem with current comics is that they are typically VERY convoluted. You usually need a ton of backstory and years of previous knowledge. This is done on purpose for marketing and sales, and it’s infuriating. Jumping into comics in the 2000s is a pretty difficult thing to do and that’s why I typically stick to older comics or complete editions that have a beginning middle and end. Like a trade paper back.
Well by golly, It turns out that this convoluted nightmare isnt ALWAYS the way current comic books are designed. Marvel decided to do yet another re-boot of the X-men and after hearing from multiple people that you really didn’t need a jumping off point, I decided to jump in. I was told the story was pretty well self-contained and this time it was basically made with the purpose of bringing on new readers.
Oh shit I guess I should tell you what comic it is that I’m reading (incase you skipped the title of this post cause it was too long). It’s called house of X. Although apparently some Call it house of 10??? I don’t know, it makes no sense to me. I blame apple. There are other side comics for house of X like “powers of X”, “the marauders”, the standard “X-Men” and a bunch more but really the only important ones are “house of X”and “power of X”. Both of which are incredible.
I’m saying this with is no exaggeration: this is one of the best comic series I’ve read in a long time. If you’re an X-men fan I can’t recommend it enough. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but the things that this comic does with the characters that you’ve loved for so long is absolutely incredible. I burned through all of it in one night because I couldn’t stop reading it. And that’s a pretty special thing if you know how much I love sleep and how much I hate reading.
Like I said, I don’t really want to get into the comic itself, but if you’re like me and fell out of comics for a while, do yourself a favour and check out house of X. It’s so good that I kind of wish I could delete it from my mind and read it again fresh. Ugh. Ok. That’s all for today!
