“What I’m” Wednesday: Star Wars!

Welcome to another one on Wednesday! This week I’ll be talking about some thing that’s been a part of my life for a long time, but I never knew I was missing so much of.

Along time ago in a galaxy far far away I fell in love with us Star Wars series. I’ve watched all the movies many many times over and I’m even one of the few people who enjoys the prequels. Call me a sucker but if I am one I’m a sucker for a political drama an incredible fight scenes. That’s up when it comes to the mythos a Star Wars I don’t get too involved in the bickering back-and-forth as I know the community can be quite toxic. All I know is I’ve seen the movies, I like the movies, I get excited for the movies and that’s all that matters to me. Now that’s not to say that I don’t have my criticisms of each, because Lord knows there’s lots of things I would change if I could. I just don’t see the need in being upset, but then again these aren’t things that are integral to my being. I do tend to get upset when it comes to Marvel or DC.

All that to say, this month I just stumbled upon the clone wars which was a show I always knew about but never took the time to watch. From the outside it looked like a badly rendered cartoon and at the time there wasn’t much to talk about it. Now thanks to the magic of Disney+ it’s available and I’ve binged the entire thing. It started off a bit slow and even after the first season I really didn’t see the peel but I stuck with it and in the end it was incredibly enjoyable end it really helped fill-in a lot of story that was missing. Which to be honest I wasn’t expecting I assumed the show would be mostly filler… Like the bad kind of filler, because it was filler, but like… Good filler?

I think my favourite part about it is that it actually gets me excited about the prequel‘s. Sure, like I said I did enjoy them but having this much new information about what was going on in the universe really helped me come to appreciate those movies in a different way. If you’re like me and you don’t think the show will be worth it and that’s what’s kept you away from it I recommend checking it out. I can’t give it a glowing review it certainly didn’t blow me away in anyway, but it was enjoyable.

I’ve also started watching rebels which is admittedly a lot better. I don’t know if I like it more because it takes place during the Time of Darth Vader and the original trilogy, or if the show is just better. If I was a betting man I would probably say both. Just like the clone wars it started off a bit slow and I didn’t like any of the characters but they really start to grow on you. Now what I’m about to say may piss some people off but the droid in rebels is probably my favourite droid of all time. OK, maybe that’s not fair maybe that’s a bit sensationalist but God I love a sassy droid and this droid give sass like no other!

It’s so weird to think that I’ve been missing out on this aspect of Star Wars culture for so long. I really never thought it mattered that much, and if I’m being completely honest it doesn’t, but at the same time it really really does. The long and short of it is that I don’t feel like I wasted my time and I feel like I have a deeper appreciation for the series. The two shows feel like they really care about continuing the story and don’t feel like a money grab like some of the movies… No shade.

But yeah, that’s what I’ve been up to watching a lot of Star Wars stuff, watching a lot of fan theories and really trying to figure out this confusing universe. Maybe someday I’ll get it. Doubtful.

I’m a huge Star Wars fan too Hammy! I’m currently on a Clone Wars rewatch and will be going through Rebels again when I’m done. Those animated series are some of Star Wars’ best written material ❤️

Please dear god say you’ve started rebels now, enjoyed that even more. Chopper 👍

Always love reading your What I'm Wednesdays and learning more about you. Especially when it's about something I enjoy too! I've also been a fan of the Star Wars franchise for years (yes, even the prequel!) but I only started watching The Clone Wars a few weeks ago thanks to Disney+. I still have the last two seasons to watch but I'm really enjoying it- especially Ahsoka's character. I wasn't sure I'd watch Rebels after that, but after reading your opinion, I definitely will 🤗

I LOVE Season 3 onwards of Clone wars, they definitely took a while to get going. And while I think Rebels is the lesser of the two, Season 2 is AMAZING! AND yeah Chopper is great! Pretty sure he's voiced by Dave Filoni himself

Matt Gibson

I just didn't have the patience for the animated shows. Though the appearance of characters in live-action for The Mandalorian is making me wonder if I should try again. I'm also like you in not hating the prequels (or sequels). I'm just excited to get new SW.

Nice to find someone else who isn’t ready to throw everything in the genre away because of 1 or 2 issues.

Gregory Brown

They are incredible journeys. Enjoy 🥰
