The beginning of the month is always print signing time me and thats literally all I've been doing for the past week. When i was trying to think of something to talk about for this Wednesday i quickly realized that there was nothing new going on because I've just been working. But fear not, because after struggling with what to write about, I realized that I could just talk about this months prints! Hell, we are still celebrating 10 years of shooting with Shaun so lets get into why this shot was chosen as the months 8x10 cosplay print! The character is Ash from the movie 'the evil dead' and he is one of my all time favourite characters from one of my top 10 movies!
ASH (FROM THE EVIL DEAD)
SHAUN: Even though we did our 3rd shoot with a Spider-Man comic book, we didn't actually do a cosplay shoot until our 11th; that shoot included your first Aquaman, Ash, Chris Redfield, Robin, and a Mass Effect cosplays. The last cosplay we shot that night was Ash; it was a hilariously camp way to end to a wildly fun shoot. It was our first cosplay shoot together, filled with a ton of trial and error, and even more laughs. That shoot radically changed the way I thought about shoots, and how I planned and edited photos.
MIKE: This was after the Halloween shoot where I was dressed as Robin so even though we hadn’t done an official cosplay shoot, I knew that you would do an incredible job. I was incredible nervous because up until this point (and maybe still) I only knew how to pose in model like ways. The Idea of “being in character” was not something I was use to. Acting like tough superheroes was a stretch for me so when it came time to be the silly campy Ash Williams I was relieved. I finally got to be (and act) like the stupid idiot I am. There are some pretty funny shots, but I’m curious why you chose this one specifically?
SHAUN: While reviewing all of our shoots together, I could really see how much energy you put into bringing Ash to life, even though we were both a little exhausted at this point in the shoot! It was an older shoot, and Ash hasn't shown-up on our feeds in awhile, but I’ve always loved how much ingenuity and effort you put into creating this cosplay. Specifically, with this shot, I loved the power and focus of the pose, and I really wanted to showcase the intensity with a shot that was a bit more close-up, rather than full body.
MIKE: Totally! This shot also highlights the fact that I made my chainsaw out of a laundry detergent container and I love that. These were the “pre-patreon” days, in fact, they were the “pre-a lot of things” days and I just love looking back at them!
SHAUN: Shhh! You’re ruining the illusion, no one would’ve guessed it was laundry detergent! Hehe – That’s one of the reasons I always love shooting cosplay with you, doesn’t matter how janky the equipment, props or locations we used, we always had fun and made it work! And yeah, the old shoots were the “pre-a lot of things” days for me too, so so so much nostalgia.
