Giving Some Stuff Away!

FOLKS! I need your help, and I need some advice! I have some comic and prints and stuff that i was to giveaway but as of last year "random giveaways" became illegal on patreon so I had to stop. Long story shot its technically gambling if the winner is decide by random chance. You can still do giveaways but they can be random. That means no "click like and i pick a random person".

That said, i could do something like "caption this picture and the funniest one wins" but the problem is that i would HATE to have to pick a winner like that because its way to much pressure and in all honesty, it's not that fair and not very nice. So my question is, HOW THE HELL DO I DO THIS!! I HAVE COMICS AND PRINTS THAT I WANT TO SIGN AND SEND!!

If you've got some good ideas comment below!

I love this photo =))

Antonio

That's totally fair. It was just my first thought of a work around. I mean, I guess you could change the theme every time and make it the most accurate description, the worst description, etc to make sure everyone gets some love. Idk. Hopefully other people are giving you rocking ideas to get it sorted.

Matthew Wroblewski

Then this idea doesn’t work because I don’t want to do a giveaway for IG

Michael Hamm

Booooo

Michael Hamm

The rules say "A patron’s chance of winning can’t be increased by paying more money (like by pledging at a higher tier)" so that's a little iffy. But, maybe... Read section #3 of the link I put on the previous comment.

Jere Keys

Thanks so much!!!!

Michael Hamm

Ohhhh smart!

Michael Hamm

I think that would work!!

Michael Hamm

🤫

Michael Hamm

Tricky tricky

Michael Hamm

Right! That’s actually a great work around. Maybe the people on patreon who enter get 100 entries each and Instagram users get one lol

Michael Hamm

That totally makes sense

Michael Hamm

That’s pretty good idea!

Michael Hamm

I don’t feel like getting in shit if I did get caught

Michael Hamm

That’s not really a giveaway but more of a “thanks for all the money”

Michael Hamm

But... what about people who aren’t funny. Don’t they deserve a chance at Hamm

Michael Hamm

Just like me lol

Michael Hamm

That’s how I used to do it. That’s illegal now

Michael Hamm

Thought about this too, I just would hate to see someone with no likes. If that happened to me I’d be heart broken lol

Michael Hamm

Hmmmm that might work...

Michael Hamm

A game of skills!

Michael Hamm

I wonder is the caller thing is still “random”

Michael Hamm

Came across this: https://giveawayfrenzy.com/comparing-giveaway-tools/

mdennard69

I absolutely love this picture!! You are absolutely beautiful and I bet you are just as nice a person that one could meet.

Chris Mercer

Create a poll to guess the next cosplay project and winners get a prize? Or most obscure characters win?

Derick Stephensen

Spider-Hamm, Spider-Hamm Reads about the Spider-Man

Ian

Just send it to me. 😜

Jamie White

Drunk Q & A— All the questions are randomly picked, any that are answered win a prize? Or is that still considered gambling because you have to submit something to enter?

Rob

You could just say the funniest will win, then pick a random one - with us knowing that's the deal...

DarkLord77

If you wanted to do a caption thing, you could get us to decide the best one by the number of votes. The old radio contest trick of 7th (or any number) caller wins A quiz where the highest scorer wins. Although if you have multiple people get the highest score then you’ll have to have multiple prizes

David

I read the Patreon rules and it seems the easiest solution is that you don't limit it to subscribers. Make the contest open to fans on Facebook/Instagram/YouTube or whatever and it's fine. Because people pay to be Patreon supporters, that's what turns it into a form of gambling - but if fans who don't pay for Patreon can also enter, you CAN do random chance.

Jere Keys

Yeah, this restriction will technically be true on every platform, even if they don’t enforce it. The reason is because there are really strict laws around sweepstakes, and even a simple t-shirt give-away can result in $75k in legal fees to set up properly. (At least, that’s what a company I worked for 20 years ago spent.) I wish I knew of a work-around.

Kevin Goebel

Ridiculously adorable! I know this doesn’t help. I’m sorry about that.

Christian Juel

Of course it has. 🙄

Peter

If you have a P.O. box, you can open the contest up to anyone, and have the contest rules be that to enter, you must either: 1) Be a patron, or 2) send a written submission via self-addressed, stamped envelope with certain information on it (name, address, phone number, email address, etc.) addressed to the name of the contest. The likelihood of anyone mailing it in is almost zero, but there you go.

Craig Puckett

No idea on contest but.... Damn that's a great pic!!!!!!!

John Langley

This post has already been flagged because woof key words lol.

Michael Hamm

cant you claim that its not random but still have it be random somehow? How would they know?

Jamal Baghdadi

I think pick random people from different tier like Gavin suggested and pick someone who’s been supporting you for a while.

Kevin Bolmer

They've been both sugegsted, but I think too either a quiz or a contest with prizes may be the best solutions

Giorgio Ronchi

why not just base it on the Tier system and how long people have been suporters.

Gavin Lowe

I think Matthew W’s idea would be fun - caption contest, and the most likes from your patrons wins! You could also do second, third, etc. place as needed.

Scott Isaacson

How about a contest for recreating a Hamm pic? Pick your winner based on how well they recreate your facial expression, pose, etc. Everyone can do it without having to be terribly talented or funny.

Peter

Damn. You are gorgeous.

Christopher Murphy

i'm still just looking at those legs

steve grabowski

You can make a post, everyone who comments would be eligible. Then use a random name picker app to choose the winner(s)

Michael Mendez

I just re read and seems like that’s the issue because it’s considered gambling 🤷🏻‍♂️

Renato Zebadua

I think the point was it cannot be random.

Lee Keels

I got lost on the Spider peekaboo! That’s a giveaway enough ☺️

Elliot Ibáñez

You could always do something like caption the photo and then make it a vote by the patrons. The top or top three get something. Then it's the community making the decision.

Matthew Wroblewski

I like the idea of Joseph, I’m also wondering if you can do random number generators and make us choose numbers or something like that

Renato Zebadua

Make a contest and I’ll do whatever I need to do to win

Jay Mackle

Is polling allowed still? You could place a poll saying “enter” and “not interested”

Dylan Brocker

Do a drunk baking video, then guess the sprinkles on the cake, closest number wins!

Michael

Old fashioned radio method: give away to the seventeenth caller. Or set up a Hamm Quiz, top scorer wins.
