A Killer Time!

Ok ok ok! Now that I have all the bad shit out of the way I can finally talk about the good! Luckily there was also a fuck ton of good to balance out the bad!

After getting off the hell flight and landing in Mexico I met up with a friend who live in Mexico City (and is also in here!) and he took me to this vegan taco place that quite literally blew my mind. I’ve had plenty of vegan tacos but these felt and tasted like authentic street tacos. No fancy ingredients, just really well spiced “meat”. I’m still having dreams about those tacos and I think I ordered like 8 of them.

After that I was headed back to the hotel and ran into the 3 other cosplay guest who were heading out for drinks. I told them I had to unpack and then I’d head over. The original plan was to pretend I fell asleep but I didn’t want to be left out lol. I met up with them, had drinks, and it was just so much fun. It feels so incredible to sit down with other people who do this for a living. I’ve talked to lots of cosplayers in the past but never people who are also doing it for a living. It was an amazing feeling to be able to talk openly with likeminded people.

The next morning was the first day of the con. I was up early and went to the gym. After that I showered and then got all dressed up as ash. It was my first real test fit and somehow it looked great. I was really worried because I literally started making it 4 days before the convention. Once I got to the con any lingering feeling of anger at the flight disappeared and I was washed away into one of the best experiences.

That first day I barely got time to sit down and check my phone. I was blown away by how many people were coming up to my booth. There was never a line, but it was almost never empty. The people of Mexico are so fucking sweet and would bring little gifts and candy and it really warmed my cold cold heart. I also had another friend stop by (he’s also in here) and it was amazing to actually get to see him and touch him! We had been Skyping for years so it just felt so so nice. I took 100’s of photos with fans and sold so much stuff, so by the end of the day I was exhausted. But I wasn’t going to let that stop me from meeting up with the cosplayers again. This time there was a lot more gossiping and shit talk so that was REALLY Fun.

The second day of the con I “slept in” until 7 am and then got started on my joker make up. I knew this was going to take a long time because I had literally never done it. If you thought making a costume 4 days before a con was cutting it, oh boy. I bought the joker make up the night before my flight and didn’t know what I was going to do. The good news is that the messier it looked the better it looked lol. It turned out pretty great and a lovely side effect of actually doing the make up was that even people who didn’t know me wanted to get pictures. It was almost just a busy as Saturday but it was a lot more picture taking. The fans were great and im very thankful to the handful of people on Patreon that took the time to stop by and say hi! An extra big shout out to Xtian who came by multiple times each day, bought so much stuff, and would just pop by to say hi sometimes.

This is the part where I’d love to say “the end of day two” but day two slowly faded into day 3 because after the con we all went to see the day of the dead offerings and it was unspeakably beautiful. I had the option of going to sleep or experiencing day of the dead and I knew there was only one real option. The imagery, the stories, the culture, the people…it was breath taking. It was truly the best way to end the trip and I’m glad I didn’t get any sleep.

BONUS FACTS:

-Dressing up as Ash the first day was great because all the straight men wanted pictures with me

-burger king in Mexico is WAY better than Canada and the United States

-my translator was the fucking bomb and was covered in my chemical romance tattoos so that what we played at the booth

-my joker make up scared a lot of children

-everyone is Mexico is sexy

-cosmos were my drink of choice because the hotel was really bad at making anything else. (Including margaritas) and they didn’t have a good whisky selection

-I didn’t shower before doing the joker makeup because I thought it would look like shit and I’d have to shower to wash it off. It ended up looking good and I couldn’t shower that day lol
