The Jokes on Me

Look, before you read this just know I’m not looking for sympathy. I’m extremely lucky to be in a position that allows all this bad shit to happen to me lol. In the grand scheme of thing this ain’t that bad, but in the moment it felt like the worst thing in the world. Overall i had a really great time so I think that’s what really counts!

Ok, now the horror story…

Thursday morning I woke up at 8am, went to the gym, got some work done, and then spent hours finishing my costume and praying that the paint died in time. At around 11:30pm I tired to go to bed knowing that I had to wake up at 2:30am to head to the airport. I didn’t get ANY sleep at all and then headed off to the airport. For you sake I’ll put the trip in bullet points:

GETTING TO TORONTO

-Got to the airport 3:30, and my flight was delayed by an hour (not too bad)

-I waited around the airport for 3 hours and then got on my flight

-once the boarding door was closed there was no one next to me so I was going too sleep

-at this point I’ve gone 24 hours with out sleep

-as I’m lifting the arm rests a man sits next to me with a baby (the flight attended put him there cause there was more room) who cried for almost the entire flight.

-I got off the plane in Toronto around 11am and sat around and waited for my flight to Mexico

GETTING TO MEXICO

-I got on the flight to Mexico around 12 and flew 5 hours with no food I could eat. (SPOILER ALERT: that ended up being a good thing)

-as we begin to land the plane starts to go back in to the air and something I can’t understand is said in Spanish

-the plane then spends about 40 mins going up and down like a roller coaster and I was starting to feel sick-

-The person two seats away from me throws up and it’s all I can smell

-the person across the isle in the middle throws up INTO A CUP!

-i see a 3rd persons a few rows up pukes

-The whole plane smells like puke and I’m so close to doing it myself

-the plane lands and customs is about 1.5 hours

-once I get through that I meet the person from the convention who’s taking me to the hotel.

-she lost her phone so she can’t get an Uber, and we have to get a loner phone and download Uber (which takes about 30 min on airport wifi)

-traffic is crazy because it the formula one race so it take forever to get to the hotel

-I go out for tacos and even though it’s like 6pm (Mexico time, 8pm my time) I decide to go to bed.

-I’m at 36 hours with out sleep and as I’m coming back to the hotel all the other cosplay guest are going out and tell me I have to come.

-I get some drinks, go to be at midnight and wake up at 5am

THE FIRST DAY OF THE CON

-I wake up at 5am because of the time change

-I got to the gym and walk in the treadmill for like 2 hours

-I start getting ready for the con

-I head over to the convention at 10am and stay there for 10 hours

-lunch was Burger King because I couldn’t eat the food the con had

-after the con I meet up with the cosplayers and we are up till midnight again

-at this point I’ve been awake for 61 out of 66 hours.

-I got to bed around 1

THE SECOND DAY OF THE CON

-I wake up at 7 am! (6 hours of sleep!)

-I get my joker make up on and head to the con at 9am

-I’m at the con for 10 hours and head back to the hotel

-I didn’t eat lunch so I ordered upper eats

-when I went to pick it up I locked myself out of my room

-I bring the food to my room and go back to get a new key. It takes a while.

-I get back to my room and the foods gone

-I got wait to talk to the front desk about it but I reorder it cause I know it’s lost. They say they will check the camera and let me know.

-the other cosplayers arrive shortly after because we are all going to do day of the dead stuff.

-security doesn’t call and my new order has not arrived before we have to leave

-day of the dead was awesome but it’s not 1:30 am and I need to be in the hotel lobby at 3am for my drive to the air port

-I pack and don’t sleep

-I head to the airport and my flights been delayed 2 hours which means I miss my second flight and it has to be rescheduled.

-I get on my flight 5.5 hour flight from Mexico to Toronto

-at this point I’ve been awake 87 out of 98 hours

The flight is fine and I watch a lot of TV

-I get to Toronto and i now have a 5 hour layover

-I eat and watch tv

-as a side note I was suppose to get how at 4pm and now I’m getting in at midnight and completely missing all the Halloween plans I had

-I fly home to Halifax and get home around 12:30am

-I’ve now been awake for 101 hours out of 112

(11 hours of sleep in almost 5 days)

-I’m home, I fall asleep, and I wake up and get back to reality

Ok… that that’s all the bad stuff. I promise to do a post about the good stuff and the convention itself! I just really needed to get that off my chest. Thank you all for listening lol.
