Christmas and I have a pretty tumultuous relationship. It’s one of my favourite holidays but it’s also one of my least favourite. I love the things that surround the holiday like the food, the music, the movies, the lights, and the snow, but it’s usually a really hectic time of year that comes with a lot of baggage and a lot of unneeded pressure. The holidays in general are TOUGH.
For those of us who lost someone, this can be an especially hard time. For those of us with families whose values don’t align with ours, this can be a stressful time. For those of us who are alone, this can be a time that makes you feel 1000 times more alone. Hell, even if you celebrate with your whole family AND they completely align with your values, guess what… YOU’RE BROKE!
I don’t know what I’m trying to say with this post, and I’m sorry if it comes of confusing. It’s likely coming off confusing because I’m very confused myself. I chose to take this year away from my family and I think that was the right move for me. The past few years have been hard for my family and I felt like I needed to always be there for them. This year I realized that I needed to start being there for ME.
Im happy to announce that this year Christmas and I are on good terms, and it’s because for the first time, I put myself first.
By the time you’re reading this Hanukkah is coming to an end, Christmas has already started, and if you live on the other side the planet, it’s likely already over. Either way, I hope you’re proud of yourself for getting though it because it’s not easy. If you’re not proud of yourself, just know that I’m proud of you.

So glad to hear that you had a good Christmas this year, and honestly really appreciate you putting the spotlight on how hard it can be sometimes. This was my first Christmas totally alone between a break-up and family having covid so it actually helped to know that I wasn't alone in feeling alone during a very family/friend centric period. Hope the next one is even better for you
