Our Life 2: DM (Step 1)

He's part of Qiu's little club so you'll spend quite a bit of time with him if you prioritize being around Qiu. If you stick with Tamarack he isn't going to be there as often. Those two aren't exactly "friends". That's because while Darren is usually level-headed, he's immensely intimidated by girls! He gets tongue-tied in their presence and cannot handle such mystique. And that does apply to the MC if you use she/her pronouns and partially/fully identify as one of those idealistic "girl" beings in Step 1.
This is another way we're going with a different direction for this new project. In Our Life 1 everyone treated the MC about the same regardless of your gender in order to make it something no one had to worry about. Everyone could express their gender/sex freely without it being a point of note. In OL2, the characters are supportive of every gender but we're gonna try out having scenes that will include notable alterations based on your identity. Our hope is that no gender choice will have 'better' reactions from people- just different, equally fun experiences to make the game seem even personalized. For example, Darren being nervous around a girl MC will be totally silly rather than an actual problem to deal with and not being a girl will mean you get to have other kinds of goofy experiences with him. It should be a good time for everybody. This also won't be the only case where choosing a certain gender alters situations. Over the course of all the steps, each kind of gender/gender expression will have times where it gets extra special attention.
As for Darren and his lady struggles- she comes out as a women herself in Step 3, so it all works out for her in the end, haha.

This idea is very cool!! It was nice to have a world where nobody was judgemental about your gender or sexuality in the first game, so I like that the planned gender differences are going to be interesting plot changes like this as opposed to characters being sexist or anything. Also honestly it's a galaxy brain relateable move to have the character who thinks about girls that way be actually a closeted trans girl who hasn't realized it yet. It gives a very understandable reason why someone might treat girls differently but not in a sexist way. I'm excited to see if our protagonist can help support her through accepting herself in the later steps!

The money they are using to start this game. like hiring the staff and all of that was money that was raised with stretch goals because we just couldn't stop shoving money at gbpatch during the campaign. the fact that the second game would have 2 LIs and and that one would be female and the other NB was known from the start. and we backed both games. if anyone didn't like the concept of that they could have withdrawn their funding, but here we are planning that second game just as it was announced way back in the original kickstarter.
