Coming from a lower class home, it definitely felt like the MC was in the life of luxury, and hearing about how rich Lee was was always sort of jarring. Then looking at how amazing Pamela and Noelani are, while still having the ability to say they're "The Worst" is just so true to character - A kid dealing with their parents, or a kid dealing with the wealth gap with their cousin. All brought down to the reality of a limited perspective, a kid in a small relatively wealthy city with their own problems to deal with.

I think it's fascinating that OL1 MC's moms didn't realize how serious the MC could be about Derek the way they realize it if it's Cove! Since in Step 4 they mention that time the MC invited Derek when they learn about them being in a relationship, I assumed they thought of it as something more "serious". But it makes sense that they thought about it in hindsight instead.
