Month End Post: 2022 In Review & December Wrap-Up

Happy final wrap up of 2022!

It's a combination update that will look back on the most recent month of development, and the year as a whole. There's a lot to touch on, so let's get into it.

2022 Reflections:

Amazingly, I don't know how, 2022 was more successful than 2021- which was previously the most successful year we've had at GB Patch Games. Thank you to everyone who has played the games, shared them, purchased DLCs, and backed us on Patreon. There's been more support than I ever could've hoped for 😊!

Our main game, Our Life: Beginnings & Always, celebrated its two-year anniversary a couple months ago. While that's been out for a while, we've kept up with releasing expansions. During 2022, the Cove Wedding DLC and the Derek Story DLC both launched. It was over 300,000 words of additional content between the two.

And though the Baxter DLC wasn't finished in 2022 as I had originally hoped, it is well on its way! Two new writers were hired to help with the script and I've drafted a significant portion of the entire story already.

Another goal I'd mentioned at the start of 2022 was releasing games onto the Google Playstore. We were making the steps needed for that, but unfortunately there's currently a glitch in the engine we use that has made it impossible for games made in that engine to be submitted to the storefront. We'll get back to that once a fix has been released for the issue.

However, an entirely unexpected storefront launch did happen. Our Life: Beginnings & Always became available on GOG this year.

Our future main project, Our Life: Now & Forever, also finally became available for people to try in the form of a demo. That launched right at the start of 2022, and since then it's been updated twice with improvements, new features, and more scenes.

And, not-so-secretly, there's an unannounced project I've been plotting. It's really come together over these past twelve months, and thinking about it has made me very happy.

Looking back on the year, I'm glad for what we were able to accomplish at GB Patch Games. Everyone on the team did amazing work and people had a great time with what we managed to release. Reading over the comments for the OL2 demo and the reviews for the Wedding and Derek DLCs was a joy. Though, I've already got a lot of hopes and plans to do better next year, that's for another post.

Monthly Content Summary:

I personally put down 52,075 new words this past month, and virtually all of that was initial drafting of Baxter scenes rather than proper script writing. The Step 3 draft was finished, so we already know everything that will happen in that time period. And I'm nearly halfway done with the Step 4 draft!

35,630 words came in from our other writers and I edited that. Some of those scenes you can play in the Baxter beta that released this month, but there are also parts that are currently unreleased. It'll be next year when those end up in a beta build.

And when it comes to programming related work, 62,800 words were programmed in total. It was mainly Baxter DLC content, but a fair chunk went into Our Life: Now & Forever. Both our betas were updated in December: the Baxter Story and the OL2 prologue. Plus, the public demo of the OL2 prologue got its own update as well.

And besides the usual progress, I spent some time updating the Our Life: Now & Forever store pages on Itch and Steam. New graphics were put together and I rewrote all the descriptions. I think it's way better now, and hopefully will draw in new players to the series as well as returning ones.

That's it for 2022. The year is gone. A lot was done, but there's still so much to come. I'll get into that more in the next post, though. Thank you for checking in on how things are going here at GB Patch Games.
