Our Life: Baxter DLC Build 1.6.7B 🥂 (PC, Mac, & Android)

Now, there are still issues with his content working in conjunction with the normal Cove scenes, so it's technically not entirely complete. But if you just play Baxter's stuff it's the whole thing and should be all good. How unbelieve that it's come this far 😭.
Important Notes To Play the Beta:
- You access Baxter's Moments by clicking a yellow button on the right hand side of the Step 3 Moment selection screen.
- The extra scene for Baxter in the 'and then summer ended' section happens after the credits!
- Baxter's DLC begins in the Step 3 opening. You can play from the beginning of the story until that point or start a new file and use an option at the start of the beta to skip right to Step 3
- Save files from this beta won't work in other beta builds or the main game. You can load saves from the main game in the beta but you need to play Step 3 from the beginning to see the new content
New Content:
- The Moment "Mountain" is now playable
- The Moment "Planning" is now playable
- The "And Then Summer Ended" additional scene is now playable (it only appears if you played Baxter's story events)
- Over 60,000 words of new content was added in total
- The Moment Selection Screen for Baxter's events was properly implemented
- Missing and incomplete art from prior builds got added
- Errors were fixed from the previous beta
There is one BG in Planning that's entirely missing right now, not even a sketch is done, and so I just used the grocery store background as a placeholder.
And there you have it. Everybody worked hard to create this massive update before the end of the month. I hope you'll enjoy the full first part of Baxter's story. He's certainly a unique figure in the world of Our Life: Beginnings & Always 🖤

Just finished Baxter's beta dlc and I'm struggling not to clutch my heart in sadness. I can only beg that there is an option for a happy ending with him in the MC's life. Still, it was incredibly well written and I love how you stay true to his character. Bravo.

Baxter made assumptions about MC's feelings, became self-contained, and excluded MC from a part of his life. This experience broke my shy MC's heart 🥺. Honestly,I can't see a future where he and my nervous MC can be happy. That makes me sad. However!!! There were many fun moments. Thanks for the great story!

It makes me think that maybe something happened to him in his past that now makes he afraid to let anyone get near him or stay with him. He's willing to help and there for them but won't let others do the same for him, I felt so sad for him and even when he was being harsh to MC I still wished him luck and a good life 😢 Can't wait to see him again in Step 4 and make everything okay for him 💕 Thank you and your team so much for all your hard work into making these amazing games 💖

2023-02-25 22:24:18 +0000 UTCYeah, that's why I'm using "better" and "good" so loosely here - just as a means to refer to the more positive version. Inherently, I think it comes down to two aspects about my MC. First one being that he just takes everything in stride and accepts life as it comes, so that, albeit sad, is just another thing to take in stride as usual. And the other one being that to him, the relationship with Baxter was already borrowed time - he had a crush ever since the soiree in Step 2 and never dated anyone else nor had another crush to begin with, so he's grateful for that summer and already happy with that. More would have been better of course and he's sad at the separation, but still satisfied in general and he was perfectly able to say goodbye with a sincere smile. I don't even know if it's a fully healthy approach to life, but at the end of the day it allows him to be happy and not be heartbroken here, so at the very least in this instance it's positive.

2023-02-25 17:17:49 +0000 UTCi’ve been thinking about both the endings a lot since it came out and i honestly don’t know which fits my mc’s personality better :’) i plan to replay it once the whole dlc is out anyway so i’ll make a decision by then, but i truly don’t think there’s a “right” or “wrong” ending — though it certainly feels better to end on good terms like you did haha (can’t say the same for me </3) if it fits the mc’s wants and personality than i can see why people go for that route as well!!

The "good" one fit my MC's personality perfectly and well, there were no hard feelings there - it was not just a choice made to avoid a fight, but really the natural reaction for my MC. The other one doesn't feel right for me at al haha I guess I'm a lucky player in that regard!

Well, that comes without saying I guess, at this point, but really, it was awesome! I think as far as Moments go, Drinks remains my favorite of the DLC, but I love them all so much! It's already my favorite DLC of the bunch, and I haven't even played through Step 4 yet. But well, that was to be expected considering just how much I like the character. I can't even tell if I'm just being biased or if it's "actually" even better than the other DLCs haha. Now, the Summer Ended part... It was amazing too! It was so short, yet so poignant. I guess the exact tone of it depends on each player's playthrough and on their MC's personality, but in my case it was so bittersweet. There was no true heartbreak in that... well... it was just that, the end, as promised and expected. My MC accepted that, and he said goodbye with a smile, unwavering in that regard. It was nice to end that on a peaceful note, with no bad feelings. I'm sure the acceptance was also a relief for Baxter. I feel like otherwise, he'd have been harsh because being hurtful would have been a good defence mechanism and a way to "enforce" the break-up as such, instead of a mutually arranged end to the relationship. I mean, I guess that's his reasoning if the MC insists. But of course the separation still hurt even if it wasn't directly harsh. Still, I'm left with that strange feeling where I'm conflicted between thinking "it went better than I feared" and "I sort of expected it would go that way despite all the sneak peaks screenshots and CG we saw previously" - I guess I had faith in Baxter that it would go better than that if he was not pushed. With that being said, I just checked out one of the "less favorable" branches to see how it pans out, and I have a small question. Would you consider to add a choice option where the MC wouldn't immediately accept Baxter "breaking up", but wouldn't get mad or sad or numb once he explains his reasoning, and accepts after that? Would make sense to be surprised or confused at first, but accept it's what he wants after hearing what he has to say. My reasoning is that the MC could have been prepared to the relationship ending as it's what Baxter said from the start, but still be surprised at first about him intending to avoid any contact. But still come to terms once he explains and not take it badly, basically. It's not the path I'm following anyway, but I just thought it would make sense! Anyway, regardless of that, thank you for the FEELS! I can't wait for Step 4 now!
