Our Life: Now & Forever Beta Build 1.3.2 🏪 (PC, Mac, Android)
Added 2023-07-26 18:00:04 +0000 UTCAnd here's the actual beta build! We're finally past the prologue and into Step 1 for real. Woo! This beta build shows off the Linked Moments feature by including the opening scenes shared between Walks and Wheels. It also has part one of Walks, but not the entire Moment. The first part (and the second part too) is ridiculously more complicated than the scenes in OL1, so it takes longer to implement them, aha.
For at least a few months it'll probably be half Moment updates per beta release until we've had time to get ahead with the script writing and have finished a lot of the other non-script programming elements that are being worked on.
And you'll see some of the non-script related updates in this beta. The system for choosing gendered terms has been nicely improved and a functional Moment selection screen with temporary assets has been put in place thanks to Shawna. The Moment screen is neat because you'll be able to arrange where the Moments are set! So, if you don't play in the default order you can actually drag and drop the buttons into whatever line up makes sense to you. We're also planning on including decorations to make it even more personalized.
Also, if you're at the highest tier, you can leave your suggestions for additional choice options/MC reactions for these new scenes HERE.
And since we've had some problems in the past with so many people downloading beta builds that they get locked out by Google Drive, I've uploaded mirror builds! If the first ones listed don't work, you can try these.
Or you can bypass the quota by logging in to a Google Drive account, then on the file's download page, click "Add shortcut to Drive" in the upper right corner. Save it to your Drive, then create a new folder, put it inside, and download the folder!
Save files from the prior beta should work in this beta!
New Content:
- 15,500 words of new scenes: the linked opening for Walks & Wheels and the first half of Walks
- The Moment Screen with temporary assets
- And updated system for choosing what gendered terms are used
- Small fixes to typos/errors from the prior build
Thank you so much for waiting for more OL: N&F content! There's tons of alterations possible within the Moments. We've really pushed the concept of getting to do what you want in this quaint world of Golden Grove, haha. I hope you'll enjoy the story we're putting together 💕

It would be nice and interesting if maybe the MC could chose to reveal that. Overall really good for options. All the problems I found are already above in comments so I’m not going to restate them. Keep up the good work!

2023-08-01 17:27:55 +0000 UTCI had an issue where all the backgrounds flashed rapidly from black to normal. I am using a new laptop to play the beta now so not sure if this was a glitch in the game or if my laptop is missing some kind of driver or something.

Also, I'm not sure if it was a glitch, but I no longer have the options to answer "Sometimes" or "Sort of" when Tamarack asks if we're a girl (NB MC with she/her pronouns and neutral descriptors if that's relevant). I really liked having those options in the previous build so it was a bit disappointing to see them missing.

And rather arbitrary options at that (the background of the diner cg, the forest clearing, three variants of the cul-de-sac, qiu's backyard, and the bg from when you're approaching qiu's backyard).

The Thank You screen appeared, but then some lines of text from the beginning of the moment (iirc) showed up while Qiu and Tammarck's sprites overlapped each other. It's a small enough visual bug, just thought you'd like to know!

I had a small little issue though: When Qiu comes back again after calling the other two and asks "Everybody ready?" - following Tamarack's answer, my MC first answers "simply with a nod" (which is in tune with how he acts usually), but then when I click once more I get an energetic and vocal answer saying "I'm ready too!". I'm sure that second one is a bug or coding error, since not only the game specified it was only a nod, but also it's a bit OOC for my character compared to all my previous choices. Not a game breaking issue of course, but still noticaeable.

If MC talks to Tamarack first, only gives her their first name, and then refuses to give Qiu their name at all, Tamarack will tell him MC's full name despite never being told it.

I tried using the other honorifics like “mr.” and “miss” to see if Qiu would say the same thing, and they do. Qiu keeps seeming confused and says the same thing.
