Here you can ask me things you're wondering about for our games or company and they'll be answered at the end of the month an an audio recording (with a text transcript too). Just make sure the questions long follow the guidelines!
The thread will close after January 19th.
Guidelines:
1. Please don't reply to other people's questions even if you know the answer. The fun of joining a Q&A is that the developer can give a direct response to you and that everyone else also gets to hear/see the answer in the end of the month post. Having another player resolve the question in the comments right here might not be what the asker was hoping for. This thread is more about having a good time rather than looking for an immediate response to an important question. And if you do have a question you want to hear about right away, it's best to ask in some other thread or to message me directly.
2. I'm afraid questions about what scenes/choices/art assets Our Life: Now & Forever will include aren't answerable right now. Most of the details are decided as the game is created and currently I'm only writing Step 1. I do know some things coming later, but only a small fraction of the whole game.
3. The questions can't be about more serious/potentially upsetting topics because I don't want those listening to suddenly be surprised with something they might not have been prepared for/want to be confronted with.
4. Please keep the questions here to things that wouldn't be really hard to tackle in an off-the-cuff, spoken out loud kind of Q&A, aha. Questions about a half dozen characters or wanting an entire theoretical situation described aren't super doable in this situation.
You can always send me questions outside of the audio Q&A if they wouldn't work here!

For the bonus question, "mommy" is just an especially sweet and young term to use in the US. Most teens don't. And Qiu doesn't identify as a Demiboy. Thank you!

I have two questions, one about OL2 and one about OL1! - For OL2: you mentionned in the previous Q&A that if the MC is jealous of the LIs, some of the related choices that may pop up are related to their families and so on... Will we be able to have a MC who is envious of them having a father even if we don't pick the proper mechanic for the MC to be jealous of them? Because this is the only aspect on which I'm planning to having my MC be envious! - For OL1: I was talking with a pretty unpleasant person on Steam that was hell bent on telling me any other romance than Cove's is "not canon" (and that the entire Derek and Baxter DLCs as a whole were not canon) and was basically telling me how dumb it was to try and convince myself they were, and that they didn't see the point in thinking so instead of just admitting Cove was the canon option just because I "liked either of the others more". I know one should just ignore these kinds of players since the very point of such a game is for the choices to matter, but I was curious about your take on that. Do you consider "any choice a player makes is 'canon' because it's their playthrough", or do you still consider the DLC stuff (or anything else, really) shouldn't be considered canon? PS: also, unrelated to my questions, but I was the person who, on the last Q&A, was wondering if the changes in relation to a very silent MC who suddenly spoke a lot more were intentional or a bug, and you told me it was a bug. With the latest built, it reverted to how it was before, so if you found the bug and fixed it, thank you. And if it was a one-off weird freak accident glitch, at least if fixed itself! Just wanted to inform you!

My question is around what age did cove realise he was falling or had fallen in love with MC if their relationship goes from crush to love between step 2-3. I know he mentions that he thinks he already loved MC a little bit at thirteen and when you confess your love at 18 he says he had been quietly loving MC for a long time but when around would he have come to the realisation and how did he react to it? Sorry if this question is kind of long and thank you for all your hard work!

With Qiu being the ultimate angsty teen during that time I can’t imagine that they would be the type of person to still be all nice and warm to their parents. (Not in a bad sense but more in a way of they’re going through a tough time and don’t have the energy to be wary of other people’s feelings) With that being said is their relationship more on the strained side during this time? Thank you for advance for answering! I adore how fleshed out the characters are in OL2 even more so than in the first game, it’s refreshing to see characters that actually have flaws and I think you portray characters with such so amazingly!!

Feel free to shorten anything. - Do Omi and Opa see Tam as another chance to be better parents in a way? I know they're not trying to act like they're her parents and Tam's stay was supposed to be temporary, but they aren't close with their son and I know that hurts them, so I was curious if Tam being there felt like a new chance to be better this time around. - Although Omi and Opa welcomed Tam to their home with open arms, what were their initial thoughts when their son asked them to take care of their daughter while they worked on their degrees? Such as, did they think, how could they put her aside for their careers etc..? - Over time, did it break and/or anger Omi's and Opa's hearts to see that Tam's mother and father were absent in their own daughters life? - Will Opa ever speak up or voice his opinions? Also, does Omi and Opa ever have discussions? We know in front of others he won't say much or anything at all, but what about when it's just Omi and Opa one on one? - You mentioned that when Omi says things to Tam's mother, Opa doesn't say anything to defend Tam's mom.. does this mean that Opa agrees with everything Omi says or it's a mix of he doesn't want to say anything and he agrees but also disagrees with his wife? - Are Omi and Opa very observant of Tam and her emotions? We know in Step 2 Tam changes quite a bit and I was wondering if they become aware of that and the change in her viewpoint with her parents as she gets older.

Tama's house seems very spacious, while the MC and Qiu's house seem more moderate, at least based on interiors. 2. Would Qiu wear things like skirts, crop tops, makeup? I know they wear nail polish and they can have their hair very long, but what about things like dresses and the like? 3. How do you feel about all the discussion around Tamarack's parents? I haven't seen this kind of huge response before to two new characters. Is it stressful or are you glad that you've written characters that evoke such strong emotions?

Anyways my questions are, will there be a way to be best friends with both Tamarack and Qiu in step 2 or will you only be best friends with one of them? Also are there going to be voiced names in OL2 like there was in OL1. How would the OL romance options work with a partner who very often spaces out, completely in their own fantasy. I haven’t tried this myself, but Baxter apparently won’t ask MC out if you say you started crushing on him in step 3 but will if the crush happened in step 2. Is it because in step 3 it would feel too recent and intense while in step 2 enough time went past? I hope this makes sense. And second question: How rich are Baxter’s parents? Because Lani and Pam both have high paying jobs, live a walking distance from the beach, and are country club members so they have to be pretty well off. Yet Baxter is the only character that’s outright described as rich. Edit; One more question. Have you watched The Looney Tunes Show? I ask because of the Baxter and Pepe Le Pew jokes, along with both of them being wedding planners.

If we call her cute when we first meet her, she just says “No.” and squishes her face. What was she thinking? Was she grossed out? Or embarrassed and being shy? Or did she not believe us and think we’re making fun of her? 2. If we keep expressing interest in her and are completely platonic with both Qiu and Tamarack throughout the game, is there ever a point when she thinks we might have a crush on her? Would she ever seriously consider the MC as a romantic partner?

I've got two questions; 1: If MC decides to take up similar hobbies to Qiu and Tamarack (Dancing & music), is this something that we can practice with them at later moments? I'm quite soft over the thought of 14/18 year old MC being able to do harmonies with Tamarack or being able to perform with Qiu. 2: After re-playing the wedding DLC in OL1, I found it really cute how Cove had certain wants such as walking down the aisle with his S/O, sharing names and wanting certain food/cake flavours. I know any wedding DLC for OL2 is a loooong ways away, but do you think you have any early thoughts over what Qiu and Tamarack might picture in their dream wedding when they're older? (That is, if they're even thinking about weddings. I know I did a lot at ten!)

I hope you are taking care of yourself and I wish you all a happy new year! Anyway, without further ado, here are my only 2 but long questions and thank you in advance for your answers! 1- I really liked the beginning of the “Fancy fun” moment and I can’t wait to see the rest with my best friend Tammy!! The part with Qiu was adorable and loving dancing myself, I decided to participate in the class with our little Qiu. I would add that I'm a little sad not to be able to have a real role in the play... but perhaps we can expect a last minute absence which would become our moment to shine! So, I would like to know if, like in OL1, at the end we could choose our profession? If so, I imagine it will be vaguely described as in OL1, but could there be the possibility of having a "celebrity" job? For example, my MC loves to dance and works hard, so I can imagine her being a famous dancer? It could remain vague and little mentioned like in OL1, but I wanted to know if it would be possible to have this kind of profession in the choices. 2- I recently played OL1 for the thousandth time (I love this game!) and I remembered something I had forgotten. In our relationship with Cove there is no possibility of keeping our relationship a secret. I can understand, because he is a real open book, especially with this family. However, I like having the choice, a bit like with Derek and Baxter, except that in their case, it can be because it’s an uncertain relationship (Dereck = trying due to a childhood promise and Baxter = just for the summer) even if for Baxter, in the epilogue we don't really have the choice either. knowing Qiu in step 2, if we have the possibility of being a couple at that time, it wouldn't be surprising if they doesn't particularly want to talk about it. So, will we have the choice to keep our relationship secret? will we be able to choose who knows? Because, of course I can't hide anything from Tammy! Bonus question! I just thought about it. I remember that sometimes when we move on to step 2 and we choose how we address Opal, she can make a quite funny shocked face when we choose to continue or change to call her "mommy" which is a funny detail and I wanted to know why she makes that face! As I speak, read and write in French in general, perhaps I don't understand the subtlety of an obvious joke? No idea, so thanks for your clarification! ^^ Second bonus question! (sorry, I just remembered that...😅) I recently learned about the existence and meaning of the term DemiBoy and found it very interesting. As peoples defining themselves DemiBoy use He/Him and They/them like Qiu in step 3, I wonder if Qiu will define themselves as such or if they prefers the term genderfluid?

Is Cove near sighted or farsighted? And if you opt for Cove to not wear glasses after step 1 is it to be assumed that he's wearing contact lenses, or that he just grew out of needing glasses? If I recall correctly Lee from OL1 was sponsored by someone and wasn't an original character meant for the game. Would you consider letting the patreon/Kickstarter backers sponsor a minor character for any future games?

Pls feel free to Ignore the ones you aren't comfortable with :) 1-do you think its weird in both games how you can crush on the mains so young? I introduced my friend to the game and she said it "wasn't right" that crush was an option for an 8/10 yr old. To which I replied, "you don't have to crush on them that early. And crushes at that age are normal" But then she got mad because it wasn't fair that she lost certain options because of it??? 2-will there be more negetive dialouge available? I know I want to do 3 different types of play through, one positive, one neutral, one more negetive, but I don't know if such things will even be an option? 3-(in connection to 2) one of the moments I hated the most with cove was errand, simply because, F the moms? (Brought up alot of bad memeories for me lol) But I feel as if alot of what we said was just coasted over? How serious will our choices be in this game? 4-im assuming we get to choose wether we play an instrument with Tam, or dance with qui? Why not both? 5-if i do body changes, do they get highlighted in the game? For instance, Tam says she likes our hair if it's multi tone. So if I were to say, gain a scar suddenly in step 2, would the characters notice? Would it be seen as negetive or positive depending on my reply? 6-you have to get rid of one forever: pasta, rice, soup. Choose your destiny.

To be completely honest, I’ve been entirely in love with the recent fancy fun moment as someone who lived and breathed dance for most of their younger years, so my questions are all based around this first part of the moment! 1. Is there any specific melody that you picture Qiu humming if you choose the option to ask them to dance? 2. What are Qius thoughts on other types of dance? (Ex. Tap, jazz, contemporary, etc.) Would they ever be willing to try another style for fun, or do they just stick with ballet fully and not think about other types? 3. If Qiu could choose out of any of the roles, what role would they play in the nutcracker and why? 4. How did you get such an accurate representation of what dance classes are like? (At least from my experiences you captured it perfectly) Have you ever taken a class / known someone who has taken ballet, or did you do research?
