And I have to mention, while it wasn't my question, your answer to that one about Baxter where you explain his thought process when meeting MC at the soiree then asking to be a suitor for the summer and then the goodbyes... Damn, it hit so hard. And like, I already KNEW all of that, or at least figured it out. But somehow, seeing it written in your words brings all the painful feelings out again. And the most interesting part is that I never truly felt bad for my MC about that because my OL1 MC is a very stable and chill person who just accepted his time with Baxter was limited that summer, but it hurts so much for Baxter himself. Though one thing that is different from that person's MC is that mine didn't try to push staying in contact, and even respected Baxter wishes and didn't try to text him or anything, though he kept the phone number saved. And that makes me realize... my MC actually always smiled at Baxter. He was never mad or annoyed at him for anything, and the only instances of him being with Baxter where his smile dropped was when Baxter was feeling really bad for some reason and he was desperately trying to help him and the situation required being fully serious and focused. I just can't. Every single time I think about Baxter, it almost brings tears to my eyes just from how much I love this character and how much I love his romance. I play a lot of visual novels and interactive fiction, and a lot of them are romance heavy, but there are very few characters in all of the games I've played that I love as much as I love Baxter. He was a truly life changing character for me. And it's one of the few games where I truly feel like one of the love interests is my MC's soulmate on the deepest and most pure of levels. You really make amazing characters in your games, always, but yeah... this one will always be special to me like very few fictional characters have ever been. Sorry for this random and very long comment! I think it's basically the proof how emotional I can get when thinking about him!

I feel people tend to avoid these topics to not make their characters identity center around their race, but it's really the execution that matters rather than the idea itself. The criticism was never about having racism apart of their story, it's about racism ONLY being their story and not having any other nuance to it.
