OL2: Step 2 Prologue Script Preview

Meeting another Murray! Have fun being a part of his class in Step 2.

Pure Text:

“You settled into an assigned seat. Nobody asked where you’d like to sit anymore. You’d gotten a middle row, towards the door.[ Getting in and out should be a piece of cake/The temptation to escape was powerful].” #if likes school or not

“Every chair filled eventually. You looked towards the front.”

“The teacher stood there with his back turned. He was busy writing his name in broad strokes on the white board. “Mr. Murray”. He circled it then flipped around.”

“Each feature on his face was clearly defined. His eyes had a gentle curve and a blue that popped against his peachy skin.”

“Mr. Murray wore an autumn-themed novelty tie. That’s the kinda teacher he was, the type who tried to make learning [fun/“fun”]. You could tell from a single look.” #if likes school or not

“At least, you would’ve been able to, if this was the first time you’d met him. It wasn’t. He’d lived one street over from you for the past four years. You’d seen him around.”

“[Hell/Heck], you knew his first name! Rudy Murray. Ren’s dad, Shannon Murray’s husband, and your new homeroom teacher.” #if swears or not

“A wedding ring caught the light when Mr. Murray lifted his two hands, addressing the class. His voice boomed unwaveringly.”

mr_m “Good morning, young scholars! As you can see right here, I am Mr. Murray, your homeroom teacher. But I do science mainly, some of you might get me twice in a day.”

mr_m “I recognize many faces here already. We’ve shared Golden Grove long before we shared this class. You may recall my wife from elementary school- Mrs. Murray. With the red hair?”

“He pointed to his shock of blond hair. Various teens mumbled or nodded, a few shouted out their love for their childhood teacher.”

“A Mrs. Murray mention could pull a reaction from nearly the most jaded of high schoolers.[ Nearly. [Qiu] did nothing.] Mr. Murray nodded, satisfied.” #if qiu homeroom

mr_m “She is going to be thrilled to hear about this. Her students remain students in her heart forever, no matter how old you get.”

mr_m “But between just you and me, you’re not elementary schoolers anymore. You’ve graduated to my class now and good news, I’m the easy one!” 

mr_m “Since you’ve made it this far already, your last few years of school are “in the bag”.”

“Mr. Murray threw out that phrase with a wink and nudge inflection, pretending to dunk a basketball. The fourteen-year-olds were not so impressed anymore. Somebody coughed.”

mr_m “Well, before I get carried away, we better do roll call, don’t you think?”

“He loved his questions. Well, he was a teacher. Asking the people here questions was Mr. Murray’s literal job. He collected a folder off his desk and tapped it with his knuckles.”

mr_m “So, I’m gonna go down this long list of students. When you hear your last name, I want you to raise your cellphone high! Really show it off.”

“The room filled with murmuring. At this point, it might as well be a round table discussion rather than a lesson. Was the teacher serious? Actually, yes.”

mr_m “I’m serious, come on now.” 

“Mr. Murray really knew how to get that class engagement, for better and worse. But nothing could stop the roll of his call.”
