There are plenty of single project crowd funding sites that are far more suited for this, because as far as I know, the only way to "donate" through patreon is to increase your monthly subscription and then turning it back down again. Besides the fact that this is a roundabout way of doing donations, that only works for people who do monthly donations; if you subscribe on a yearly basis, you can't change your tier like that, unless you do it for a full year (except if your patreon support happens to run out this month).
