Big Box Big Update - Lunatic Deck

The majority of the changes to the lunatic deck are either direct upgrades or new cards.  Many of you had problems with endless cycling of cards between the main deck and lunatic deck and we agree, so we've removed Grimoire and Voile from the deck. We've replaced them with cards you would want any time. The new lunatic deck is all hits and no misses. We've cut duds like Focus and replaced it with an artifact level Defense card: Gale Geta. We also added new aggressive Spell Card level cards like Psychokinesis and Sabotage. Finally we added several new weird and powerful artifacts like Mask of Hope to sit alongside Uchide's Mallet.

Direct Upgrades

Focus -> Gale Geta

Lol y’all hated Focus in the lunatic deck so it’s gone, replaced by Gale Geta. Gale Geta is an artifact level Focus, it gives you the +2 distance bonus and in addition it gives a combination of Remilia and Tenshi’s passives. Really dang good.

Supernatural Border -> Gap Folding Umbrella

Another artifact level Defense card, Yukari’s umbrella adds a counter attack to Supernatural Border. In addition, it lacks Supernatural Border’s weakness of being a Powerup type.

Master Plan

Those enjoying the new main deck already have seen this one. The old master plan was already errata'd to "May resolve an incident", but we also didn't like our implementation of the plan. The new version adds manifesting an incident and drawing a card to the previous two options, and allows you to do all four in any order you please. Not only can you set up a bomb or a trap in the future, you can make a plan that starts immediately. You have a wild number of options available to you.

Gift of Yatagarasu

In addition to being unpronounceable to Western audiences, Gift of Yatagarasu was another team play card that just didn’t pan out. Given the choice of benefitting yourself or a teammate, 90% of the time players chose themselves. So we buffed this card to have no downside to helping a team member. Making it similar to Eirin’s Spell Card just with card draw instead of life.

Jeweled Pagoda

We wanted to give Jeweled Pagoda a little buff since the +1 range wasn’t working. Since this card is easy to steal it immediately grants a draw when you gain control of it. Of course that also incentivizes others to steal it from you, but that’s fun!

“Offering”

When we originally designed “Offering” we imagined it as a team play card. What happened though is it ended up as “Borrow” 2.0, now at instant speed. So we redesigned it to be a super “Borrow”. Now it’s Action speed but vacuums up an item from each other player.

New Cards

Kaname-ishi

Tenshi surfing on a boulder through the sky is a pretty wild idea, peak “it’s magic I ain’t gotta explain.” Kaname-ishi gives you Tenshi’s passive twice. For her it’s a total of 4 cards for every life you lose, which is often more than you can play, but think of all the exchanges you can do! The hand size switching is to encourage playing like Tenshi would and build up your hand for a dramatic finish on your turn.

Kappa Arms

The robotic Kappa Arms are an artifact that helps you build your power and maintain your defenses. Each discard step you can put all of your items into play and get a fresh hand. Eventually you’ll want to replace this with another artifact, but until then enjoy grazing to your heart’s content.

Mask of Hope

The mask of hope, which was so powerful it threatened Kokoro’s existence, arrives in the lunatic deck with Big Box. This mask erases your identity but gives you unlimited danmaku. Just like Miko you can also shove it onto someone else’s face and they must take an entire turn before they can get rid of it.

Psychokinesis

Psychokinesis is a fun card on the power level of a strong spell card. Like effects such as Wide Shot and Yuyuko’s “Eternal Sleep in Dreamland”, it’s a high priority cancel target. Unlike those you can limit its effect to those you don’t think have a Bomb on hand. Smashing someone in the face with their own Uchide’s Mallet sounds grand.

Rod of Remorse

There aren't really two ways about it, this is a magical beating stick for punishing bad…anything. The Rod of Remorse gives you a suite of counterattack conditions that amount to one big “don’t get ahead of yourself.” Unlike many of the weird artifacts in the lunatic deck, this one has no downside, so smack anyone and everyone to your heart’s content.

Sabotage

Sabotage, one of the first Patreon cards now has a permanent home in the lunatic deck. This mean-spirited card’s primary purpose is to set up someone’s flip using their own card, but in a pinch you can use a card from your hand instead or reduce their card draw by one.
