I agree. Talking about these things is a hude step, and often can be all it takes to start breaking down some of the issues. Danny's depression is, like a lot of things in this story, a much longer tale, but this is definitely a good step on that journey.

2024-12-09 18:53:13 +0000 UTC@Rutabaga - All good points. I especially dislike in TV shows and movies where people are made to feel obligated to go to things like that. If people don't want to go, let them not go! Mr Rudd's past will be explored eventually, though I'm not sure whether it will fit within gthe main story, or perhapos deserve his own spin-off mini story some time. David and James are fun. Good point about Danny's inner voice, though I guess the only difference is Danny knows his isn't actually a real, separate person!

2024-12-09 04:18:44 +0000 UTCI wonder how Mark will feel if Tate never recovers from the laptop to the head. ( or possibly dies) On one hand he protected the boy he loves, but on the other hand he took someone's life! Hypothetical of course since Tate is still alive, but interesting to think about if things change.

2024-12-08 16:39:10 +0000 UTCSpeaking of David and James, I didn't mention it but it doesn't mean I'm not curious about what David and James were planning for the double date with Chris and Danny!

2024-12-08 12:15:54 +0000 UTCJosh says, "Why would I want to say goodbye to someone I wouldn’t even be willing to say hello to?” I'm glad Mr. Rudd concurs with his decision not to attend the funeral, and of course we are all curious as to what in Mr. Rudd's past seemed to be hinted at in this discussion. In reality, Josh already said his "goodbye" to Ryan back in Year 8, in the chapter I cited in an earlier comment. He could just as well have phrased it, "Why should I want to say goodbye AGAIN when I already did it once and meant it to be permanent?" And it is noteworthy that Josh feels more secure knowing that his evil brothers cannot bother him again. Fun to see David and James fucking like bunnies now that that particular ice has been broken. I'm glad Nicky, Mikey, and Danny are going off to talk at the end of the chapter. It occurred to me that Danny might as well have the same voice criticizing him as Mikey does. It's having the same effect.

2024-12-08 02:01:12 +0000 UTCI'm also glad Danny shared his depression to his dorm mates. It's an important and vulnerable part of his life that the others can help him with

2024-12-07 16:56:38 +0000 UTCAgree. I spent a little time studying schizophrenia on Wikipedia (yeah, yeah, I'm very David!) Mikey's symptoms are at least not typical. He's also a bit too young to start these symptoms.

2024-12-07 05:21:40 +0000 UTCMikey's inner voice is really annoying. And it looks like, after Mikey finding out what his inner voice told him were mostly lies, his inner voice counterattacked back more violently! It indeed makes sense. (And Matt intentionally made the other boys unnotice what the "he" might be...) BTW, I'm pretty amused by Gray being compared to Yoko Ono!

2024-12-07 03:38:30 +0000 UTCMikey is very young to be exhibiting schizophrenia. At least he does not seem to manifest many of the other common symptoms.
