The Kingswood Amelioration - Chapter 04

Comments

The Todd problem is definitely bigger than they thought, and there are plenty more developments to come on that front. That said, there are changes in general taking place, but that's getting into boox six territory... A lot of the parts you've suggested would take place (such as notifying others) but doesn't specifically get shown in the story as I tend to ocus more on the experience of the key characters, but Mikey's involvement is not yet over.

Matthew Smith

If the magnitude of the Todd problem -- as reflected in the number of other kids responding to Mikey's outreach -- comes to the attention of Kingswood management, they will undoubtedly realize they have a much more serious problem on their hands than it may have first appeared. First off, they will now have to take a searching look at the hiring process that led to Todd's presence. What was he hired to do? Who was involved in the hiring? Who, if anyone, checked his references? Who was his supervisor? What kind of supervision, in fact, was there? What changes need to be made to both the hiring process and the supervision process? Second, if he came from another school, what would be Kingswood's obligation to notify previous employers of Todd's activities? Thirdly, if Todd's activities were sufficiently pervasive, what kind of outreach should the school make to the general school population? Will Mikey need to undergo another soul-baring experience to warn others, at some kind of assembly, of the danger of being seduced by unscrupulous employees? R

David does tend to try to go it alone with their problems, don't they? Back in Chapter 3, there was one moment in the mentor/mentee meeting when David recognized a line from one of their favorite tv shows. They weren't sure if it was just coincidental that Shane said those words. Perhaps it wasn't coincidence and Shane also likes the same tv show. There might be common ground between the two after all. I also wish that David hadn't left the gym; it would have been good for Shane to see another side of David.

Fortunately today, there are better systems in place to prevent someone like Todd from being employed by educational institutions. If I remember correctly though, Todd is fairly young himself and may never have been on anyone's radar. Or left previous positions before anyone found out. There is also the very real possibility that Todd himself was a victim of abuse in the past - that doesn't excuse him, but it is a hard thing to deal with without the proper help.

In regards to the other kids not sounding like they consider themselves victims, Mikey didn't see himself as one, even while Todd was being pulled off him by Mr. Rudd. Todd was evil, and he knew how to hide it well.

The Mikey story regarding Todd is the one that sticks with me the most. That's horrible stuff, there being so many victims and them gaslit into not even realising that. It's very kind of Mikey to reach out to them, despite his initial desire being to try to move on. But this also raises the question of what can the school do to increase the safety of their students. Note that "horrible" is not a criticism of the story, it's aimed at a well written horrible character. We're about to get another Chris cum denial while being teased storyline, those are always great fun. Like I said in another comment, I raise my eyebrow at what will happen with the play being either right at the end of that dare punishment or right after it's end. I'm excited to learn more about the play, of course, and I'm intrigued by the mention of a nude scene. Between Clay's the encounter with Nicki a few chapters ago and how he acted in Drama Club in this one, I think he's great. He's probably the teacher Danny will try to go to for his dare, that should be a funny interaction, regardless of the outcome. David should talk about the way Shane has been acting around him with Danny, the other guy from his dorm that has interacted with him the most. But David has the annoying tendency of trying to resolve his problems alone, so they probably won't say anything. I'd say Shane is probably being bigoted about David being non-binary, and it's sad that the Shane situation paired with Axel having been expelled are probably making David think they're a bad mentor. At the start of the previous year, I wasn't much of a fan of Gray. My opinion changed when I realised his cockiness was a front to disguise his awkwardness, as I can relate to the difficulty of being around new people. But I like him a lot more when he's capable of being himself, which used to only happen when he was alone with Nicki last year, but now he does that with the our entire main group.

The last scene with Mikey receiving all those reports of other Todd victims kind of overshadowed everything else for me. Todd could certainly be prosecuted for all of those other incidents, but whether the affected kids and their families would be willing to undergo that is a real question. Ideally, if the police collected enough evidence in the form of victim statements, the DPP might approach Todd's solicitors and offer a plea bargain for a much longer sentence in lieu of that many trials. Of course, a key element in all of this is that the other kids don't sound like they consider themselves victims. I'm looking forward to learning more about Chris's play.

“Yeah, that fits,” Steve nodded with a teasing smirk. “Screw you!” Steve pouted. I guess "Screw you!" should be Aaron pouted?

I see I was correct that Todd had more victims. I am curious to see how this storyline progresses. Looking forward to seeing what this chapter's quotable quote turns out to be. I'm not getting a good feeling about the Shane situation. I hope one of the other guys catches on that there is something not working well there. David doesn't deserve the treatment Shane is giving them. Like David, I will probably comment more later as well. @Matt I think you meant Adrian is the director of the Year 11 group. Unless I misread, you said Year 10. It's so hard not to think of them as being Year 10s.

Rich

I'll comment more later, but I want to point out one thing. I don't know what Matt is plotting, but this can't be coincidence. Chris' no cum punishment for his dare failures ends precisely when they'll perform the play for drama club. This chapter says five weeks for both.

Davide

Ugh this is not good for Kingswood. So many boys being abused on school grounds!
