You’re watching a newer edition of it, so the score was reverted to the Japanese one, and several VAs redid their parts, which is nice because their voice acting used to be pretty bad back in the day. As much as Sean (Goku’s VA) is an unmatched talented prodigy nowadays, his old voice performances were really bad, which makes sense because DB was his first ever VA experience. Luckily he’ll improve drastically as this old section goes on, but his delivery was so cringe in this arc I can’t lie 😭

2025-06-07 20:13:19 +0000 UTCHahaha ok so what happened to Goku's voice here is a little complicated, I won't go into too much detail but essentially what happened was that, the first ever English dub of dragon ball was voiced by a company called Ocean Group, that original dub went from OG dragon ball all the way until episode 67 of DBZ. That's when the Funimation dub took over, however, the voice differences were so jarring that eventually they decided to redub all of OG Dragon Ball and the first 67 episodes of DBZ as well so the voices would be consistent with the rest of DBZ. What you are hearing in Goku's voice as of this episode is Sean Schemmel's very first attempt as Goku. What you had been hearing before was him as well but with the experience of having voiced Goku for many, many years. So you're going from him being a Veteran voice actor to him being a complete noob lmfao.
