Being a good Californian, I had a reusable bag handy; you know, reduce plastic waste, right? Anyway, I struggled to reply, "J'ai un ... um ... sac?" as I pulled out my reusable bag. (Yes, I spoke like a 3-year-old.) The shop owner suppressed a smile and replied, "Oui, vous avez un sac, Madame." Yes, you do have a bag, Madame. Not my finest moment speaking French but oh well.
