Three-Act Adventure Planning Template | DM's Toolkit
Added 2022-05-10 12:30:00 +0000 UTC
I've previously written about how a novel's three-act structure can make it easier to prepare and run TTRPG one-shot adventures. Now, I'm excited to release a Google Docs template for planning any three-act adventure, from start to finish!
Why use a three-act structure?
- It organically uses player goals and dramatic questions to drive the story forward, creating a satisfying and robust linear experience.
- It avoids "feature creep"—the natural tendency of us DMs to pack dungeons full of more content than we can reasonably get through, especially in a single five-hour session.
- It's a reliable, easy, and accessible storytelling structure, freeing you up to focus on the elements of DMing that you most enjoy.
As with all components of the DM's Toolkit, Bronze-tier patrons or higher can download the template from the Bronze Tier Masterpost.
Thanks as always for your support, and please enjoy!
