Weekly Update 08/18/19

This first half of 1973 is definitely a contender for best batch of comics we've read for an episode so far. Between Starlin's arrival with some wild cosmic world-building, Man-Thing bringing a humanity to horror comics, or Spider-Man making history with one Marvel's biggest plot points ever, there's a lot to love here.

Ok, so got a Patreon announcement. I'm sure this will be a disappointment to some, but the 1971 issue of Extra Issues I'm putting out today will be the last. Writing the newsletter is taking an outsized amount of the time I put into the podcast. Writing has never been very natural to me, and each letter takes about as long as recording and editing two episodes of the show.

Extra Issues will still exist as a list of handpicked issues that I think will round out the reading. Also, I will give more in depth recommendations/ descriptions on the spreadsheet than "Read/Maybe Read/ Skip", as well as trying to bring more discussion to the Slack. I haven't nailed down the exact format, and I need to catch up to 1973, but I'll definitely still make sure it functions to flesh out the readings for those interested.

Part of running this podcast has been finding out what works well and what doesn't, and I'm sure we'll continue to evolve to bring you the coolest work we feel capable of doing. If anyone wants to discuss this further with me/ give some ideas for the future, I'm happy to hear them, either here, in the slack, or shoot me an email.

By the way, something we are looking forward to is the start of My Ultimate Year, which is probably in the cards pretty shortly. I've already made a spreadsheet of the entire run of the show. 34 episodes, one ep a month, roughly 20 or so issues per month, every comic in the Ultimate Universe. It will be a Patreon exclusive for a decent amount of time before going public. Really looking forward to delving into modern takes of all the classic stories!
