Depths
Ages ago I did a short, untested, guided freeform RPG called “Seasons,” inspired by watching the Clannad anime series. The core of it was the concept of “Chains,” which are linked sets of things about a character’s background that can unfold over the course of a story.
I realized that, as with Entanglements, I could potentially make a generic tool as an aid for developing characters; I’ve settled in Depths as the title for it for the time being. That was on my mind because I’ve been struggling with novel writing, and I started using my Persona-inspired novel project as a test case for using Chains as a way to flesh out characters’ backgrounds. That attempt has been teaching me a whole lot about how to go about writing Chains, and is generally showing me that this is going to take some time to get right.
D&D Critique Anthology Project
For a while I’ve been thinking about putting together a book critiquing D&D, and I even made a bit of a start writing it, but I realized that it would work better as a collaborative project that brings in different perspectives. Right now I’m conceiving of the project as an anthology of essays about D&D from different people, and after tweeting about it I already have like a dozen different people offering to write for it. I’m still figuring out how exactly to go about it, but I’m leaning towards doing a Kickstarter both to get some additional publicity and to be able to pay everyone something like what they deserve.
