Basic DC System

Hi Guys,

Ava here 🙂

We checked off a few big items this week as we inch closer to our big move north!

Mads set up a very basic DC system so we can run our nav lights, charge the handheld VHF, and—most importantly—start the engines. Since everything will be redone once we get to North Carolina, he built the setup on a small piece of plywood so it can be easily removed later.

Another major task was installing the engine push-pull cables. We were dreading it, assuming one of us (me) would be crammed into dark, tiny corners of the boat. But, thankfully, the access wasn’t nearly as bad as we feared—only mild contortion required.

We also finally got around to making a proper sticky note to-do list. It’s not as long as we had pictured in our heads, but—as every boat owner knows—nothing is ever quick or easy when it comes to boat work.

Now that we’ve got insurance sorted, we’re hoping to get everything wrapped up in the next week or so. Fingers crossed. Some things are still out of our hands, like waiting for the yard owner to move the boat and coordinating a crane to launch her—so we’ll have to work around their schedule.

That said, we’re chugging along every day, inching closer to the goal. Thanks for following along with us—we’re almost there!

for heat shrink, I use a cordless heatgun similar to one in link which works really well: https://www.amazon.com/FULLYEA-Cordless-Batteries-Portable-2-Temperature/dp/B0DFC4MJ7Z/ref=sr_1_11_sspa?crid=90KZGV674TON&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.XoMzMCwHVeh-0iJ9qckHozZMk58b2BZlUnygcxWIcoYDa6EjkVsLOwlZqn9UqJPfVcIXZsuQ2UNQNETk5VSldEGn-YqbnC5i0lEZHyIfB_iEsIzaUOQKBgc9i6kBWbiTGsnLuPBK0shvMSQniOMooRtLhIYFjBIM01FDoiMGp-aPb41nbBXGSnsyNPQ6QMonrs9ZWKL2egfCjvijFCabw0YeVXMQT-T6pmijvRLTR0C204mldXrSAcgtmItrkorqgip_pemCvrwepE2_9f0TbynwPeh0sfe_M6CmIEue9hs.jnXQsKAgcoE8fZ_cNOHL1C-fX6pDnT9164_-CA8b0F8&dib_tag=se&keywords=Cordless+Heat+Gun+worx&qid=1748960226&sprefix=cordless+heat+gun+worx%2Caps%2C223&sr=8-11-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&psc=1

Incredible how much you keep getting done! Fantastic and really looking forward to following your trip. I was interested in a side comment about a DC DC conditioner for the NMEA 2000. Would you mind sharing what device you were using there? I occasionally have some funny behavior on my network and I’m thinking this might be a solution.
