Map Preview: The City of Sturdjal

Hey everyone! A new map is in the making and I wanted to share some work-in-progress shots with you!

The next map up is the City of Sturdjal. The first thing you might notice is that this sounds very similar to the city of Størdjal on my Fjords of Knørden map. That's because they are the same location.

As I shared my latests maps on social media I got several comments about my use of Scandinavian letters in the maps, specifically the 'ø' and 'å'. Someone asked me if I was mocking the Scandinavian languages, and other people seemed offended by it.

My intention was never to offend anyone, or mock the Scandinavian languages. The use of those letters was intended to evoke of Norse and Scandinavian feeling to the map.

People on the internet will always have different opinions about things, and my work in no exception to that. However, I would never want for my work to offend anyone. Therefore I have decided to change the spelling of several locations. I will be updating the last two maps (The Fjords of Knørden and Knørd Longship) as well when I have the time. If you have any questions or comments about this, please let me know!

With that said, I'm currently working on the City of Sturdjal, capital of the Kingdom of Knurden. It sits on the northern banks of Fjurmann's Lake. It will feature a large castle overlooking the city and docks.

The docks are an important part of the city. Most of the trade wares go to and from the city by ships, and the Knurd longships also lay anchor here.

The city is surrounded by a large stone wall, meant to keep enemies out. And these enemies are not all humanoid...

I hope to be able to finish and upload this map before the end of the month, so be on the lookout! Also, the final map will have a surprise for you! :D
