Hey everyone! Let me present to you the Village of Souvron, the third map for the Lakeside Castles theme.
From Daundry Keep , the road goes south, past the lake shores, stone-capped ridges, and rolling hills. Once you pass the town of Wartell, the landscape becomes an idyllic sight of forests, hills, and winding rivers. As you travel further south, past the bridge town of Forling , you enter a dense, forested river valley. The Sorren River dominates the landscape, meandering through the Sorrak Valley from Reamar’s Fingers—three mountain ranges that extend like the fingers of a hand from the Domart Mountains in the far south.
Along the Sorren River, in the heart of the Sorrak Valley, lies the quiet village of Souvron . Here, the river is only a modest stream, unremarkable to most. Dirt roads wind through the surrounding woodlands, converging at Souvron Watermill, the village’s centerpiece. The mill, built on the south bank of the stream, harnesses the cascading waters as they spill over rocky slopes, forming small waterfalls that fill the valley with a soft, constant white noise. Scattered stones and boulders allow travelers to cross the river, though a wooden bridge, known as the Souvron Bridge, was built for easier passage. A few dozen houses cluster around the mill, home to herbalists, woodcutters, carpenters, and smiths. Each house has a small vegetable garden, and the land surrounding them is a mix of rocky outcrops, wildflowers, and towering trees.
But the forests are also dark.
Lately, dwarves have been seen traveling north from the Domart Mountains, passing through Souvron before vanishing into the woods the next day. With them came unsettling sounds—distant rumblings, strange noises, and tremors that shake the ground beneath their feet. Since their arrival, the mountains to the east and west of the valley have begun to moan—sometimes even roar. At night, a howling—no, a crying—echoes through the trees, unnatural and unrelenting. The animals of the forest have fled. No birds sing. No wolves call to one another across the valley. Only the rare fox or doe still dares to be seen.
A doom is coming from the mountains, and the people of Souvron know it to be true.
