Bun Christmas
Added 2024-12-24 16:01:02 +0000 UTCA simple but sexy outfit for Christmas. We were planning to shoot it in a much prettier location (somewhat similar to last year's) but it was fully reserved.
On the day of the shoot, right as Selenite was changing into her outfit a fire alarm rang. Confused people stepped out in the corridor outside our rental. Was the building on fire? That didn't seem to be the case. Probably nothing. We went back to preparing for the shoot and sure enough the alarm was turned off a few minutes later.
Then, just as we set up for the video the light went out. A complete blackout, only faint daylight coming in through the window would illuminate our rather frustrated faces. I step out again, complete darkness in the corridor. Studio admin with a flashlight tells us she has no idea what's happening.
Now, as a filmmaker and a producer you need to keep a hold of yourself in moments like these. We try a small photoshoot, it looks decent. Literally every minute counts: the sun is already setting behind the buildings outside and in 15-25 minutes the room will be pitch black. We try for a video. I deliberately set up the mic and the lights to be visible in the mirror and we go for a 'look at this bullshit' vibe. It goes reasonably well and... then the ptorotype Roomtex Ultrasoft pops in a closeup. Normally this wouldn't have been such a big deal: we had a spare, just need to inflate it to around the same size as... oh, right. No electricity = no pump. Even if we blow the second one to size with no pump the rest of the video is going to be really dark. Defeated, we retreat back to the reception desk after a short sitpop bit.
Surprise! Everything seems fine on the other floor, lights and all. As it turns out there really was a fire AND a flooding incident in a building adjacent to ours (it's a big factory type of place). It wasn't bad enough for evacuation but they needed to fix the burned wiring ASAP so they cut power to some parts of the building. Sweet. At least the admin gives me a refund (we can't change to another room because Selenite has to go attend to another appointment later that day).
In good news, the power on the floor where I scheduled our Rem shoot seems stable. I leave the heavy bag with all the equipment at the reception desk and go eat soup with Selenite before going back and doing the Rem thing. Happy (?) end.
Here are three photos and the videos from this story. They'll stay exclusive because I don't feel right charging c4s level of money for something that ends so abruptly. The quality is quite alright though. Modern cameras are miracle machines.
