Question Thread 34

---

New thread because the old one's too damn long. Please read the rules below. We run a tight ship here and questions that don't adhere to these rules will be ignored.

Rules:

1. Don't reply to my reply with another question. Patreon makes it impossible to navigate and find it once the thread becomes long enough. The email notification doesn't take me to your reply, it just takes me to this thread. Instead, write a new comment/question.

2. Each Patron gets one post per question thread answered. It's not sustainable otherwise. New question threads are made every few days.

3. Use shift+enter to make a break. On a cell phone, hit Return twice to do the same. Don't post an unreadable mess.

4. Zach Moore and Patrick Tucker are qualified personal trainers. They give great advice/answers and jump in when I'm not around. Alexander Jonathan Leahy is also good. Knows a thing or two about powerlifting.

5. Don't ask how much you're supposed to eat on training and rest days respectively. We're not here to do math for you. (BW in kg) x 30 is a good starting point for maintenance.

6. Before asking, please make sure you read Patrick Tucker's LG FAQ. Updated every Friday (weekend in this week's case).

7. Check out Elliott Myers's Google Sheets Log for the RPT diet routine AND Patreon RPT Routine.

8. Check out Zach Moore's LG Patreon Table of Contents

9. Don't ask for "thoughts." Be specific. I have lots of thoughts on countless subjects, but no time to share them all. It's your responsibility to specify which one you're after.

10. One question per thread. Alternatively, a few questions if they're related to the former. Don't ask 5 questions about 5 different topics.

11. How NOT to ask questions:  "I'm hungry. Should I eat or starve?"  Instead:

"I'm hungry. Should I eat?"

Many questions are simple enough to answer with a 'yes' or 'no.' Don't make it hard for us by asking questions to which such answers could be interpreted both ways. In this case, 'yes, eat' or 'yes, starve.'

12. Here's a case study of a question I don't want to see in this place. Why? Because I want you to use your fucking head. If you can't then go to bb.com or read and learn 'till you're competent enough to ask a question that meets the standard I demand here.

The question:
Is there a point at which walking becomes counterproductive or even damaging? It’s entirely possible for me to walk 3-4 hours a day if I combine walking at work and walking to work instead of committing. Any downsides here or is more generic better? Thanks!

The answer:
Yeah if you don't eat anything, and that's just one scenario out of a million.  ANYTHING can be counterproductive, CONTEXT matters. You're an adult right? Then you should understand these things.

The point is ANYTHING can be counterproductive, CONTEXT matters.

The solution is to provide a relevant context, for example, I'm eating at maintenance and walking 3-4 hours, is that counterproductive?

The answer then is probably not, because certain boundaries have been established, i.e. it's unlikely that the activity would result in a deficit steeper than -600 to -800 kcal.

So, think twice. I won't degrade myself to answer your shit for 1, 10 or 100 bucks. I'll just ban you and be done with it. I'd rather not. In fact, I'd rather not have this rule but it's needed for the greater good of this community. We can't have complete idiots amongst us.

Antibiotics inhibit protein synthesis in bacteria, not in muscle, so you're gonna be fine. That said, I've heard doxycycline "dries out" ligaments and tendons to the point where it can readily be felt in susceptible individuals, i.e. your recovery might suffer. Or maybe you'll simply feel more beat up from training heavy, so just be aware of that and don't be afraid to rest an extra day if you fall in that category.

Hi Martin - I was perscribed an antiobiotic (Doxycycline) to help clear up skin. Any notable impact on protein synthesis / muscle gains on RPT bulk, or extra potential fat gain? Thx.
