From Arnie:
A bit of a blur of a month. Went out for a few nice dinners, including one with Matt Young. Went to the Galloping Ghost, purported to be the largest arcade in the world, with the kiddo for Father’s Day and we played the old Simpsons game, among other things. I went to another Blood on the Clocktower game night hosted by Rush Howell. Went to a barbeque at Martin Wilson’s (was that this month?). And I went to my first WNBA game with Emily, Adal and Jemma.
TV – In no particular order.
The Bear
Presumed Innocent
Fantasmas
Paranoia Agent
American Ninja Warrior
Game Changer
Taskmaster s16
Movies – Best to… less best. Wow, I watched a lot of movies in June.
Midnight Run
Amadeus
Godzilla Minus One
The Mask of Zorro
The Martian
The Darjeeling Limited/The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - I lumped these two together, I think mostly because I couldn’t bring myself to admit that this time I found myself enjoying Darjeeling Limited more than usual and Life Aquatic didn’t thrill me as much as it had in the past. But I couldn’t quite bring myself to rank Life Aquatic lower.
The Talented Mister Ripley
Beverly Hills Cop
Your Name
Going in Style
Punch Drunk Love
Molly’s Game
Inside Out 2
Hit Man
Beverly Hills Cop 2
Luther: The Fallen Son
Ferrari
TMNT (2007)
The Garfield Movie
Brats
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)
Video Games
Dave the Diver
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

Podcast Appearances
I was recently on MEGA, Holly Laurent and Greg Hess’s podcast satire of super churches. Thundercats & Lightning Dogs with Arnie Niekamp (megathepodcast.com)
Arnie
From Matt:
June 2024
Pretty busy with work stuff so I haven’t done much of anything this month (it feels like). It was Adal’s birthday, and I didn’t do anything for him, so I owe him a birthday treat or surprise.
Guested on an episode of the podcast, MEGA (and so did Arnie very recently). Check it out.
Went to the book premiere for Asher Perlman’s (Aprel Füls) new book of cartoons. If you aren’t following Asher, you should.
TV/Movies/Web stuff:
Lots and lots of Food Network stuff on MAX. Have lost all interest in Star Wars and Marvel stuff. I feel “behind,” but I also don’t have any passionate hatred for it. I’m just uninterested? Is The Acolyte good? I haven’t seen anything since Mandalorian season 2. Also, I saw a short film that Garrett worked on. He did great!
Games:
Genshin Impact. Sometimes still. We bought Moonstone Island, but I haven’t dug in yet. Got a new computer, so I can actually use Steam now.
Food:
Had a fun night out at Old Irving Brewery, good beer and food with friends. Also a fun night getting dinner with a friend at The Green Post (also recommended). The burgers at 1959, the bar connected to Second City) were surprisingly good.
Matt

Music:
The Decemberists: As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again
EPIC: The Musical
Other Stuffs:
Enjoyed reading Bliss Montage by Ling Ma and The Last Ronin comic by Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird
I finally played the video game Lethal Company that a few friends have raved about. I mostly died.
I also introduced Jemma to Katamari Damacy which she’s loving (although she does wish the King of All Cosmos was a little more kind and forgiving)
Jemma and I are headed to Vancouver in early August to see Tim Minchin and explore. Please send any recommendations my way as I’ve never been and have zero lay of the land.
Arnie and Emily took Jemma and I to our first Chicago Sky game which was a blast.
July 24th is Hey Riddle Riddle’s 6 year anniversary! Which is bonkers.

Adal.... EPIC: THE MUSICAL is my wife's current obsession!!! We listen to at least part of it nearly every day, it's so good! They just released the newest saga, can't wait to hear your thoughts on it if you continue to enjoy 😊😁

2024-07-12 20:18:04 +0000 UTCI recommend Bristol! It’s a quick social deception game involving the plague. And as someone who’s normally shit at lying somehow this is the game I can manage haha
