Rendering Power!
Added 2019-07-24 22:59:55 +0000 UTCMy new power supply arrived today and, after some troubleshooting, the new GPU is now up and running! I was expecting to see about an 80% increase in rendering speed (not quite double since there are CPU and data transfer operations that can't be sped up by the GPU), and it looks like I actually underestimated a bit. The scene I was using as a benchmark was taking around 17 minutes per frame to render, and that was cut down to about 9 minutes with both GPUs on the job =)
There were (of course) some unexpected complications. The first was that when I started rendering, the sudden power output triggered my motherboard's anti-surge protection and shut the PC down. Updating the BIOS didn't resolve that, so I ended up just disabling the feature.
The second complication I ran into is that my PC is now drawing more power than my UPS can provide. I just bought the UPS about a week ago, and was excited to finally have it on battery backup again, but it looks like it's off battery backup until I can get a bigger one LOL
