It's shown with that cut to Johzenji (the party team) when Diachi gets hurt that most students are actually in normal classes during everything except the weekend. Unlike american high school, these matches are during regular school hours except for the finals. It's implied that only schools with large/currently respected power schools have huge clubs that bring all their members even if they have to sit in the stands (like Tsukki's brother in the flashback was on Karasuno but not good enough to even make the backups).
