Jackary Archives and Daily Discussion: Lucina

Here’s a 2020 drawing of Lucina wearing absolutely nothing!

Daily Discussion:

(Answer any or all, will respond tomorrow, as well as to yesterday’s)

What Fire Emblem hill will you die on?

What was your favorite thing that came out in 2024?

What is something you would like to see from me more as an artist? (or at all) (Aside from specific characters)

"What Fire Emblem hill will you die on?" -There's too many FE games to play, they last too long, and there's still too many trapped on old hardware that either need remakes or need to be re-released. "What was your favorite thing that came out in 2024?" -UFO 50. "What is something you would like to see from me more as an artist? (or at all)" -Male nudes, but I don't think the rest of your audience wants that.

Yeah, I do that with the old timey Final Fantasies and Dragon Quests. There's a point where you go from "retro" gaming to "historical" gaming. I don't say this lightly, but it's my most played game. Y- ... no. Like ... Anime gorls!

Roamnesia

I have really only play FE Three Houses before but I definitley need to play more. Ive heard mixed things about it but have always been interested in FE Fates, partly due to being obssessed with Corring and the Lost In Thought All Alone song

Awakening in particular is what finally sold me on the series, went from a franchise I never found interesting to that being one of my favorite games ever because it opened my horizons for the genre. The one I got is that solid color indigo purple and it goes so stinking hard, but I'm also a sucker for the transparent stuff. Actually swapped my Steam Deck's back plate out for some transparent purple. And on the dynamic thing: really only thinking of it as a suggestion for expansion, I don't think it's necessarily something you HAVE to do. I think a lot of your work actually does convey motion even if subtly (the recent Mythra piece comes to mind)

Travis Hymas

okay i have decided you are unbanned

Zach H

YES HELLO MOODY PIECE ENJOYER, YOU ARE MOST WELCOME HERE but yeah, classic is totally fine! I'm too much of a masochist to even consider it, but it's super great they've provided an option for people who really enjoy the characters/story to get the most out of it without having to endure a brutal gauntlet. The more FE fans, the better, gate's open my friend

Zach H

tbh I think people REALLY overstate how "rich" and "complex" FE games were before the 3DS era. Like Tellius had some interesting stuff going on, but FE has only ever gotten WAY more interesting in a mechanical sense since the GBA era. Like Engage's gameplay is fuckin NUTS and playing it without DLC on Maddening is one of the most challenging and insanely satisfying tactical experiences I've ever had and people also overstate how "serious" the games took themselves before 3DS. Like FE4, sure, but FE was always loaded to the brim with anime-ass characters who are defined by a single personality trait that's spammed ad-nauseum and ppl who disagree are looking at it with rose-tinted glasses lol LONG STORY SHORT i agree with you, the 3DS+ era of FE absolutely fucks and I love that they'll do something that takes itself super seriously like 3H and then turn around and make a saturday morning cartoon in Engage. is the purple analogue pocket the same kind of transparent purple? bc uh I might srsly need that someone else mentioned more dynamic work, so I'll repeat what I said in that comment (I don't disagree tho btw): There's definitely a problem a lot of artists have (including me) where we take a lot fewer risks with commission work. And since that's been 95% of my catalogue for 4+ years, I can definitely admit I haven't been experimental enough. Once I clear my queue it'd be fun to try some more dynamic pieces for Patreon sketches

Zach H

Echoes of Wisdom RULED, I want to 100% it but tbh I've been addicted to Advance Wars as part of my bedtime routine and I CAN'T GET AWAY FROM IT for literally months, at least half a year or more, I've been Advance Warsing every night before bed, and whenever I start playing something else (I almost only exclusively have time to even play games in bed anymore), I just find myself thinking "damn i kind of would rather be playing Advance Wars right now" 3) I hope you'll enjoy the NSFW Link x Zelda piece I'll be putting out! Unfortunately it's very hard for me to promise I'll make much more explicit NSFW after that, it's more unlikely than not tbh, but I have been toying with the idea of opening up a forbidden shop where I sell NSFW prints/stickers on rotation

Zach H

THEM'S FIGHTIN' WORDS ABOUT EDELGARD (but tbh I'm not sure I disagree, I chose Lions first playthrough and I didn't feel like the worldstate with that ending was super satisfying) There's definitely a problem a lot of artists have (including me) where we take a lot fewer risks with commission work. And since that's been 95% of my catalogue for 4+ years, I can definitely admit I haven't been experimental enough. 3) MANNN I really feel this and I've been itching to go beyond my comfort zone for a long time but I'm almost always gated by commissions. I'm FINALLY at the point where I don't need to be completely led by commission work thanks to my job, like the patreon payout would be enough to cover the rest of our financial needs and I wouldn't need to take comms anymore... BUT I still have several projects in the queue so I gotta take care of 'em first haha (that being said I hold no resentment for them, they're cool projects but things will def be psychologically easier for me when I can be a lot more freeform with what I want to draw)

Zach H

haha casual mode is NOT for me, but I get it, and ain't got no disrespect for people who take that route. FE has become very character-driven and casual is a great way for ppl to be able to enjoy the whole story and all the characters without having to sweat through an unforgiving death gauntlet LOL in classic mode, you either gotta just let your homies die, or reset whenever you lose one and both can be needlessly stressful options for people who enjoy these games for the characters. as a bonus, casual allows for interesting gameplay maneuvers you simply don't have access to in classic, like sacrificing units.

Zach H

haha I can't change your psychological hangups but if it makes you feel better FE is one of those games where you LEAST need to do that; the gameplay of the oldest titles is painfully archaic and almost no FE games share the same casts or even world as each other. Very Final Fantasy in the sense that the games are [largely] unrelated to each other. The main value of starting with the first one would be for "museum" purposes, like appreciating where it started and where it went lol 2) time to flip it on you and admit I've never played terraria hahah 3) like keebler elves? understood 🫡

Zach H

hey I really appreciate the honesty here! and the fact that you haven't yet unsubbed despite the lack of consistency. I will have new art to share soon, maybe within the next two days! if I feel like daily posts end up being damaging to my productivity, I'll let the P know and change the schedule to be a little more forgiving. the problem is that I was previously doing art full-time, so at the beginning of the month I prepped almost all jackary archives posts in advance, all with detailed descriptions and everything; but even just that one singular timesink is proving to be MUCH more difficult in my present situation I knew I needed to cut the Archives or change them into something easier for me. I'm getting back into the habit of [re]posting on socials every day, which is a simple task I do on my phone that I have a system for. I decided Archives could still be feasible if I could adapt them to that system. Just a simple post I can make really quick, minimal description, throw a question out, and then reply to comments throughout the day. I really dig being able to interact meaningfully with my followers! like this exchange is super real and I appreciate you saying it how it is

2: stormlight archive book 5: wind and truth. Haven't read it yet, but I can tell you with certainly it'll be the best thing out of 2024 for me. Beware the more button. I spent about 10 minutes rambling, but I'm still going to post. 3. Much as I hate to say it (because I struggle with this myself) consistency. I follow artists on patreon to support them directly, get high resolution images of scantily clad or badass ladies, and have a steady stream of... well, the previous. I follow an artist because I dig their art style, and I like to see a post every so often on what they're doing. Hell, doesn't even have to be good. I don't even have to like it. And it's not even a "make sure this guy I'm giving money to is on task". It really is just an appeal of the platform thing. I hate the idea of twiXter and being flooded with whatever stray thought someone wants to jettison into the abyss. But I like even a once a week post from an artist saying "sorry I haven't uploaded, car exploded. Here's a sketch of a foot." Well, maybe car exploded is a bit extreme, but I hope I demonstrated my thesis. I like the concept of the jackary archives ^tm, old and new. Clearly I enjoy these discussion topics. They appeal in a way that, "and that's how you clean up burnt gasoline stains in your sidewalk. Let me know down below about how your car exploded..." Never could. Do wish I could see some kind of work in progress, even if it's patiently terrible, or will never get finished. And I would personally limit the daily posts. I know it's counter to what I just finished explaining, but I feel patreon (and others like it) are a platform where people follow for the artist more than the art. Can't drive to work without a car, and failing too pace yourself well could end in explosions. I find that daily routines and creativity don't really mix. But that's my two cents. I've probably veered away off topic.

1. Never played it, and it would drive me nuts to not play the first game before everything else. It's just TOO BIG to start for me now. 2. Terraria update? 3. Soft naked elf ladies.

Roamnesia

1. Casual is the only way I can approach FE. 2. The Soul Reaver remasters! 3. I'd like it if artists who look to their fans/community for inspiration could find a better way than just most popular. It gets pretty boring seeing the same thing come from artists. I guess what I'm really saying is artists should be less afraid to try new things. There's definitely the calculus of what they have to do to support themselves, but the more they paint themselves into a corner the more likely they are to burn out because they feel like if they don't keep producing the same content they will lose fans/monetary support. I love variety and it feels like some artists either like making the same stuff (which is fine) or feel like they can't change (which is bad)

Depression Machine

Edelgard did nothing wrong. SHADOW GENERATIONS BAYBEEE (and in a couple days, sonic movie 3) Like someone else suggested, possibly some more dynamic pieces/poses, if that could be in the cards

Scarfy

1. Unfortunately I’m not very FE savvy, so I don’t exactly have a hill I will die on, but as someone else has mentioned, I play on casual mode as well. Just don’t want the added stress of losing a member permanently 2. I think Echoes of Wisdom might have to be the best thing of 2024 for me 3. Bonk me if you wish, but I always want to see more explicit NSFW content. Not saying the soft pin-ups are bad, far from it. But sometimes you just need a little more extra spice

Sturgess1A

Fire Emblem hill: the Awakening/Three Houses style of character focused games are significantly more interesting to me, even if it trades that for serious mechanics. I understand that it makes the franchise more mainstream and people hate that, but it probably wouldn't survive without these. Favorite thing of 2024? Going off the path and saying the Purple Analogue Pocket. Finally caved because they color matched to the OG Game Boy Color purple and I am already enamored with this bespoke offline way to play the old dog water games that used to be all that I had. It also can load up GB Studio games from places like itch.io, so I can actually explore an entirely new era of this particular type of hardware! Something that could be cool is to see something more focused on motion. I know we're all here for the pinups (RIP, NSFW) and those are often pretty static, but an action piece would be a new direction to explore.

Travis Hymas

I guess Im getting banned too... I also like FE in casual mode. I aint playing a game for the stress of not letting my units die and never seeing them again, just not my thing. Favorite thing that came out in 2024, probably Tekken 8 if only because its what got me into this local casual fighting game club by me that got me into fighting games and where I met some great lifelong friends I know you've mentioned wanting to do more eventually, but definitely some more moody pieces. The battle torn TP Zelda and the Mythra artworks are by far some of my favorites (cant wait to have the extra money to buy and frame a Mythra poster)

PolkuCow (Josef)

I knew I’d get banned eventually! 🤣

EugeneTM_Gaming

BANNED nah that’s fine tho fr, whatever makes it most fun for you! I’m a psycho who goes for the harder modes but I can appreciate that ppl like to take it easy

Zach H

Don’t kill me for this, but I really like playing FE in casual mode… 😬
