Oda likes to play it humble, but sometimes his foreshadowing is gold. Of course he doesn't fully know how a character is but he has the character in mind there. The thing with Law was that he himself didn't expect Law to be popular, he thought Kid was gonna be the popular one.

Doffy's father was very naive. He was naive about the way his son had become twisted, he was naive about how Celestial's were perceived in the world, and he was naive about how life out in the real world worked. He had a "humble" home prepared on a small island, but they built him a literal mansion. Doffy had already become very dependent on slaves and being treated as a god. Celestials are absolutely hated by the citizens for the horrible things they've done. He could have achieved his goal in a way had he not been so naive, by retaining his title and influence, but using going down to the world and using that influence to help people in a way that would show his true intentions to be the friend and ally of the average person. Sure they would distrust and hate him at first, but they would be too scared to disobey and would have no choice but to accept his kindness. He also needed to do this before his children were grown enough to be poisoned by the life of a Celestial. Crazy though that his parents even managed to be as compassionate as they were though living in Mariejois.

The big difference in Dofy and many celestial dragons is that Dofy knows he's evil. Celestial Dragons don't bat an eye when they shoot some1 or like just take a woman for his wife. Doffy has much more awareness and makes him more human like atleast

Oda said when he started the story he has a clear idea of the ending and even what the final panel will be. He says that is what keeps him going. Working towards that final page. That final panel, it’s gonna be epic.

Well yeah, he doesnt have it all planed. Oda was planning to kill half the super nova after the time skip ahahah but the thing is not only forshadowing is how he uses each character to almost its full potencial.

they showed luffy set sail in a row boat with a barrel in the boat. i think in ep 1 he says he ended up in a whirlpool and since he couldnt swim he jumped in the barrel

Oda 100% makes up a lot of One Piece as it goes. The original story was slated to only take about five years to publish, and was just the story of Luffy fighting against the Four Emperors to become pirate king. There are two reasons for the story being extended so long. The Seven Warlords are the first reason, and they were something Oda made up on a whim when he introduced Mihawk. Oda attributes the Shichibukai to expanding the scope of the story, and it feels like the Alabasta Saga probably was what a first draft Yonko story would've looked like before the warlords were created. The second reason for the length is Oda's continuous stream of new ideas that he wants to put into the story. It's gotten to the point that his editors are now telling him "One Piece won't finish if you keep adding things," which is advice he has decided to listen to.

Just a heads up, we saw law’s Jolly Roger during saboady when he was first introduced and it looked very similar to doffy’s Jolly Roger even then, we knew what doffy’s Jolly Roger was back at the end of skypea, so I’m sure oda had some sort of idea in mind with law and doffy when he introduced law in saboady 🤷‍♂️

If would have still been very difficult for doffy father to change all the habits he was used too. Kids get into their routines and habits very young and once its established, it’s takes a lot of work to change their habits. trebol also had a lot to do with helping doffy become who he is now
