Harpyiacantes lugetis
The largest species of harpy which belong to the genus Harpyiacantes, or the singing harpy. Their appearance and their blood-curdling voice reminded people of a mourning widow and Their flock often referred to as ‘The Mourning Court’. The most dangerous trait that they have is their silent song. They can produce a low-frequency sound that can’t be heard by the human ear but can be felt by the body. It can cause disorientation, dread, anxiety, nausea, and lethargy. But when they are together or the alpha female is among the court, they can produce much lower frequency with extremely high decibels that can cause severe motor ataxia, organ rupture, and even death from prolonged exposure.
Traversing the dense and misty forest, you hear wings flapping. Suddenly the whole forest is filled with a blood-curdling scream. Every other sound is drowned by the horrific choirs. Then as suddenly as it starts, the sound disappears into an eery silence. In fact, no sound can be heard within the forest. But you can feel it with your body, its courses through your skin to your lungs and heart, vibrating every bone in your body. a dreadful feeling which turns into nausea and intense pain. You tried to run, but your body refuses to move as you fall onto the ground. Your vision begins to blur and filled with red as you watch in absolute silence, The Mourning Court has arrived.
Inspired by both the infrasound cannon, and a brass tool I once had that can produce a very low-frequency sound that makes you feel uncomfortable, I made another sound themed creature. A death by silent requiem sounds really cool to me~
