Swordtember Day 6 - Antonym

Vice and Versa

Weapon, very rare (requires attunement)
This pair of magical swords are quite an intriguing item. Vice and Versa are created by Astra Laevantin, an infamous enchanter and former member of Children of One that defected from the cult during the last days of the 2nd Chaos Insurgency. It was delivered to the Rustana Theocracy council chamber and is suspected to be created to mock the theocracy's hypocritical and contradictory actions. Every aspect of these two swords is created to be the opposite of each other. Vice has a very angelic design, blunt and engraved with religious symbols, but its core is made of a horn of a powerful devil, and when used, it can release a massive burst of hellfire to its surrounding. While Versa has a grotesque and demonic look, its core is actually made of a broken tip of a saint’s lance that can’t cause any harm but instead heals any creature that touches it.

The two swords always come in pairs and can’t be wielded separately. When you’re attuning to this weapon, you’re automatically attuned to both of them, but they only count as one magic item.
Vice. This magic weapon is a simple melee weapon with a light property. It deals 2d6 bludgeoning damage and an additional 2d6 necrotic damage. When you attack a creature with this magic weapon and roll a 20 on an attack roll, that target and any creature within 10 feet from it has to make DC 17 Dexterity saving throw as the sword emits a burst of black flame. On a failed save, they take 6d6 fire damage and are knocked prone. On a successful save, they only take half damage and are not knocked prone.
Versa. This magic weapon is a simple melee weapon with light and finesse properties. When you hit a creature with this weapon, it doesn’t deal damage. Instead, the target regains a number of hit points equal to 4d6 plus your attack ability modifier. When you attack a creature with this magic weapon and roll a 20 on an attack roll, you can roll the healing dice twice, and It has an advantage on all attack rolls and saving throws until the end of its next turn.
Vice Versa. Vice and Versa are bound by a magical rule, and becoming attuned to it extends the rule to you. When you make an attack using one of these swords, you have to make your next attack against the same target and use the other sword for that attack. As long as you haven’t attacked the same target with both swords, you can’t make an attack against other targets using either of these swords.

A weapon to mock the divine comedy. I love their counter intuitive designs, how its incredibly 𝓥𝓮𝓻𝓼𝓪-tile and completely useless, and how you theoretically shouldn't be able to make any headway in a fight with these as intended, forcing you to think up incorporate some gimmick for using them. I love it. I'd make a jester rouge who uses these exclusively.

Basically, when a fight starts, smack em with versa. That way they heal nothing. Then you can smack em with vice on the next turn for the big damage. The text is clear. Alternatively, use vice for finishing moves, so you don't have to use versa on it. Neat little item, and beautiful art as usual ❤
