Bonus - Frederica Bernstein

a little bit of bonus content,

Recently, I was invited to a campaign in the Eberron setting, and finally, I found a DM who would allow me to play this subclass that I've been wanting to play. Introducing, Frederica Bernstein~!

No, not the person on the right, that's my familiar, she's THE GUN. I finally found the opportunity to play a Warlock Subclass, The Banished Gunsmith Patron, from the bonus content of "Compendium of Forgotten Secret: Awakening" called "Compendium of Soulforged Artifacts" by William Hudson King (Genuine Fantasy Press). It is one of the three 'Sentient Item' subclasses in that chapter, and for 'Divine Relic' for the cleric, 'Living Weapon' for the Sorcerer, and 'Gun' for the Warlock.

So I'll be playing as the gun wielded by my Familiar, Silver, who pretends to be me as I'm going to puppet it and speak through minor illusion (as it can't speak) XD

I'm gonna try to keep the facade from the other player as long as possible~

Frederica Bernstein

When Frederica Bernstein woke, she couldn't move, nor could she feel her body. The first thing her eyes fell upon was a gallows.

Her mind was a whirlwind of fragmented memories. She remembered her name. She remembered who she was. Frederica Bernstein—an artificer, archaeologist, and scholar. A graduate of the Arcanix, dedicated to studying ancient relics. She recalled being an ambitious young Half-Elf, setting up a small workshop in Fairhaven, eager to unlock secrets lost to time—secrets that modern magic and technology could not grasp. But she also remembered the struggle. Despite her passion and knowledge, securing funding for her research, expeditions, and excavations proved difficult. The world’s focus had shifted to the cutting-edge technologies of the day, leaving the past to fade into obscurity. In her desperation, she had turned to smuggling, trafficking artifacts to nobles, collectors, and even cultists. The underworld had become her domain, as she dealt with criminals and dark organizations to make ends meet. She remembered her two apprentices, Karna and Siera—young minds she had taken in, raised, and taught. They had begged her to stop getting involved with such dangerous people, but she had been too far gone to listen.

Yet, even now, she could not remember why she had needed the money so badly. Her memory was a blank when it came to the final days of her life. The last thing she could recall was working in her workshop, the constant complaints of Karna and Siera echoing in her ears, followed by Siera's reprimands. And then... everything went dark.

There was only the sensation of pain—agonizing pain, the feeling of struggling and the suffocating numbness that followed. The next thing she knew, she had awoken to find herself lying on the cold, muddy ground beneath a gallows. She couldn’t move. She couldn’t feel her body. She couldn’t even feel her eyes, though she could see everything around her. Covered in dirt and grime, a single ornate firearm, now the prison that held her soul.

Time passed in an unsettling blur. She was found by someone, traded from one hand to another, passed through countless collections. And then, at last, she found herself in Sharn. As the years wore on, Frederica—now trapped in her new form—slowly accepted her condition. Her new body seemed to harbor an unusual kind of magic, one she had never before encountered. After years of simply lying in wait, displayed or used by various owners, she finally gathered enough power to control the hands that touched her. Over time, she even summoned a familiar—a creature she could command, a physical extension of herself.

With this newfound ability, she adopted a new identity: Silver, an adventurer and fixer, known to some as "The Silver Bullet" in the bustling streets of Sharn. Yet, despite her success, the same restless curiosity gnawed at her. The questions that had once driven her—who had done this to her? What had happened in those lost days? And, most urgently, why did she feel the overwhelming sense that something was coming? Something terrible. Frederica couldn’t shake the feeling that this was where she was meant to be. A deep, unshakable sense of dread told her that her past and her present were converging. Whatever lay ahead, it would bring answers—but it would also bring something far worse.

Mate! This was such a good read! Have you written any novels? Cause I'd love to read them!

A Conspiracy of Ravens

Praise the high quality homebrew gospel. I put your stuff up on that level too. Your lore is a very fun read. 😁 now if only i had more maps of your world

Nedzilla

amen to that~ and as a warlock enjoyed this book is one of my favorite~~

Sinlaire

God i love CoFSA and im glad im not the only one. So happy to see one of these subclasses fleshed out and actualized. I hope you can not only fool them all, but get an excellent chance to reveal the truth as well.

Nedzilla

Yes, i am definetely giving it a thorough read soon, now that you brought this book to my attention...

Pajcho121

I think you can do that with the 'Relic Domain' from that book. That subclass you become a 'Wondrous Item', so you can be a hat.

Sinlaire

Both reasons are amazing 🧡🧡 and a free cantrip is a free cantrip XD

Zombie

It's for a lore reason: the DM made a list of the population in each region, and I want to hint that her origin is from a specific area where the sun elf originated. Although this will only matter when her real face is revealed. Although, after thinking about it, I might change it to Moon Elf instead because of the silver-grey-blue aesthetic of the gun... But to be honest, it's for the free wizard cantrip XD

Sinlaire

Also bladehound sorcerer sounds amazing too

Zombie

Why specifically sun elf? (They’re awesome but any specific reason?)

Zombie

Oh, yea. Sentient weapons are great, but what about a magical wizard hat that mindcontrols the one wearing it ?

Pajcho121

I also want to play the Bladebound sorcerer and become a sword, but Warlock Pact of Chain is the only one where you can have a new familiar (the creature called 'Wandering Stranger') and a new invocation that allow your familiar to become your user >___< Otherwise, you have to either ask DM for a creature with a certain CR that would be your wielder or ask another player to wield you.

Sinlaire

thank you~~ I've been looking for the chance to play this subclass, finally the chance is here XD

Sinlaire

thank you~ hopefully the campaign goes well, then there might be more artwork for this one XD

Sinlaire

This is such a cool character “I am the gun, the familiar Carries me”

Zombie

I Gasped! You're the gun, thats awesome

Moony

I love it when their is more to a character than it looks at first. And as always your art brings a whole new life to it! Hope to see more of this character and the art this campaign inspires
