He is still hospitalized at UF, but he has been remaining stable this entire time! I’m so incredibly thankful I got him there in time and for the truly amazing staff at UF! He went septic due to the perforation and the antibiotics initially were not working due to extremely low protein levels. An emergency blood transfusion was highly recommended to save him, so I brought them three potential donors. Big Red, Pogo, and Raffy were my first choices due to their sizes. Big Red and Raffy were matches and donated, but Pogo was not a match. The transfusions were done that evening and they actually worked!! Penguin’s body responded and he was finally able to start fighting the infection and his levels are heading in the right direction!! They are able to stop fluids due to him drinking on his own along with removing the IV catheter soon. He’s still on a feeding tube, but is having fecal matter so his GI tract is functioning correctly. I’m so incredibly happy to be able to share this positive news!! He still has a long road of recovery, but he’s made so much progress. He’s a fighter and Big Red and Raffy are heros!
